Hong Kong will be entering the new year with fresh hope of success in the battle against COVID-19. This as the government revealed (Dec 23) that a total of 22.5 million vaccine doses had been procured for a citywide free vaccination programme to cover the 7.5 million population.

Lord Patrick Hodge, the Deputy President of the UK Supreme Court, will serve as non-permanent judge (NPJ) in Hong Kong's Court of Final Appeal (CFA) with effect from Jan 1, 2021.
The announcement today (Dec 23) will increase the number of overseas NPJs in the CFA to a total of 14. They are all distinguished judges from other common law jurisdictions and will be one of five judges on the top court bench when hearing cases.
The presence of overseas NPJs, in accordance with the ...Basic Law, manifests the judicial independence of Hong Kong, helps maintain a high degree of confidence in the legal system and maintains strong links with other common law jurisdictions.

Hong Kong is to ban all flights arriving from the United Kingdom from midnight (00.00am, Dec 22), to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This follows the discovery of a more infectious strain of coronavirus in the UK. Travellers from the UK who are undergoing compulsory 14-day hotel quarantine are required to undergo an extended quarantine of 7 days at home.
BREAKING: HK RUGBY SEVENS TO RETURN IN NOV 2021
Great news for rugby fans! The world-famous Hong Kong Sevens is set to return on Nov 5-7, 2021. The new dates were announced today (Dec 17) as part of Rugby World's schedule for next year. This year's tournament, originally scheduled for April, was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Here is an update on the new rules for air travellers to Hong Kong which will take effect on Dec 22:
* All arrivals from overseas will need to book a designated quarantine hotel for a minimum of 14 nights
* People arriving on Dec 21 must also book a designated quarantine hotel
* Check the list of 36 designated quarantine hotels, some of which are ready for booking from Dec 18...
* Arrivals from specified "high risk" countries need to provide negative COVID-19 test result before boarding HK-bound flight.
Make sure you know the rules, or risk being unable to board your flight.
