The second week of November, 1920, as recorded in the

Moses Stone and W.D. Shaffer flew from Denver to Greeley in just 26 minutes. That means they flew at 120 mph. “That was the most exciting experience I’ve ever had,” Shaffer said. “At that speed, your ears hum, but otherwise it’s very pleasant.”

Because of that flight, the “Air Bug” has bitten many men and women in Greeley and they are paying for 15-minute flights into the clouds. While some have enjoyed the flights, others have called them “15 minutes of torture.”

A week after Warren G. Harding won the presidency by a landslide, there is still anger against the current president, Wilson. Although the president’s supposed to stay in office until next month, William Jennings Bryan said Wilson should resign immediately.

This week, the 398 grade school students in Windsor will return to school. They were all working the beet harvest for seven weeks. They will join the other students who were not working the beet fields, and who have been in school during the seven weeks.

Six men were arrested in Eaton for gambling. They were in a house playing poker when the sheriff caught them. There was $47 in cash on the poker table. Each man was fined $50 and court costs.

Several Greeley residents received gifts in the Dandelion Contest. The winners are the residents who have the fewest dandelions in their yards, keeping them free of the “yellow peril.” Local stores donated the 15 prizes, which ranged from $3 in chicken feed to a pair of new automobile tires.

The world’s heaviest woman died in England. Lucy Moore, who was an American, weighed 668 pounds. She traveled the world in show business, and received several proposals of marriage.

The Greeley City Dads Club met this week. They are male Greeley businessmen, and meet regularly. This week they discussed No. 3 Ditch.

The Red Cross membership drive will be opened Thursday morning with the blowing of the City Whistle. Don’t confuse it with the City Emergency Siren.

With the election passing of the state’s Good Roads Amendment, the road between Denver and Greeley should be paved within two years. That will mean there will no longer be a dirt road between the two cities.

Weld County Commissioner T.E. Rowe and Weld County Surveyor L.L. Stimson each paid a $10 fine in court this week for a disturbance. Just before the election the two county officials got into a fistfight on the street and had to be stopped by a police officer.
