in that demonstration are still pretty shaken up by what happened. they say that attack on them all caught on video was completely unprovoked. and they say this is not the first time they have had a run in with that man. >> yeah, like you pull your mouse down, you cell phone video capturing a man spitting on and assaulting demonstrators during a gaza ceasefire rally in south san francisco wednesday. >> he personally elbowed me in the face. >> the woman, who asked to remain anonymous out of fear of retaliate. asian part of the group changed south san francisco, which holds rallies every wednesday, this one coinciding with celebrations marking the end of ramadan. >> i should have been with my family, but i'm just so disturbed about the genocide that's unfolding. it's been unfolding for the past six months that i took time out of my day. >> the rally starting out peaceful. >> and then this man starts approaching us from across the street and he's like, you guys

are racist, you're anti-semitic. >> like the man in the video identified as kent keenan by a family member. bomb, bomb palestine. this not the group's first run in with keenan the week prior. >> he also showed up, but he wasn't physically aggressive. >> but that changed this past wednesday. >> i kind of tell him, like, don't touch me because he kept touching me with his cane. he's making contact with me and he's also threatening me. you need to get out of my city as if i didn't live here my whole life. it just felt very racist to me. and then things start escalating. don't do that. >> don't do that, man. >> after spitting on one of the demonstrators, he was pushing a few of us, so he was physically touching like almost all of us who were present there. police later arresting the 57 year old south san francisco resident. in a statement posted to social media, congressman kevin mullin condemning the violence and, quote, hate speech. i feel like the root cause is our congressional elected official not calling for a cease fire. >> if he did it, then people wouldn't feel so emboldened to do things like this.

>> and keenan pleading not guilty to three counts of criminal threats with an enhancement as a hate crime, as well as two counts of battery. we did speak with keenan's family today who say they're just in complete shock about all of this, and that this does not reflect the values of the family. >> greg zac sos live in south san francisco for us tonight. zach. thank you. the man charged with a hate crime for vandalizing a san francisco mosque made his first court appearance today. sfpd says 35 year-old robert gray is the suspect. you see here. breaking windows at the place of worship at polk and sutter. authorities report he first came to the mosque on april fourth, then again five days later. police say the third time on the following day is when they caught him and made an arrest. community members rallied at the mosque today to show their support. they also say gray's actions instilled fear in their community. the public defender representing gray maintains his client did not act out of hate against muslims.

>> we don't believe that there's any indication that there's a hate crime at all. it doesn't appear that these statements have any sort of racial or religious animus attached to them whatsoever. i think that that's a perception. >> gray's public defender is asking for a medical assessment that includes a mental health evaluation. >> rising concerns tonight in the middle east, as reports suggest iran could attack israel at any moment. the united states is reportedly moved warships that would defend israel. israel's military also making preparations. the wall street journal, citing sources that say a direct attack on israeli soil could happen as early as friday. it comes days after iran blamed israel for an airstrike that killed top iranian military leaders in syria. >> we are in close cooperation with neighbors and friends in order to prevent harm to israel, and we will know how to respond and we will support israel. >> we will defend, help defend israel, and iran will not succeed. >> defense experts say it's

possible iran could launch a smaller scale attack, with iran's supreme leader reportedly wanting to avoid a full fledged war. still, a potential attack on israel is raising fears the war in gaza could expand into a much larger conflict. our coverage of the rising tensions in the middle east continues online. you can find the latest developments on ktvu. com. >> all right, shifting now to our weather, giving you a live look at san francisco tonight, a brisk evening with those clouds moving in today and preparing to drop some rain here. let's bring in meteorologist mark tamayo with a look at the timing of this storm. hey, mark. >> hi there. greg. yeah. first thing tomorrow morning, we're talking about that frontal band moving onshore. in fact, today was the transition day. we've been talking about some changes over the past few days. and definitely a noticeable cooldown today across the entire bay area. so showing you this as we take a look at the overall weather change. of course, earlier in the week we were talking about temperatures in the 70s and the 80s just yesterday. and then as we see the forecast for tomorrow, it's a cool saturday, just 50s and 60s, and we are adding some

rainfall to the forecast as well. so it's a chilly system tomorrow. forecast highs mainly in the 50s. the winds have already been picking up around 20 to 30 miles an hour, and rainfall expectations for the weekend could be about a half an inch to over an inch and a half of rainfall, but the bulk of this should be on saturday. here's a live camera looking out toward the golden gate bridge. not a lot to show you right now, but up in the north bay. so far, we've actually had some measurable rainfall. did see 0.04in bodega bay, santa rosa .03, healdsburg 0.13. so still some scattered rain showers up in portions of the north bay. and the satellites kind of picking up on that band, especially up in mendocino county approaching ukiah as we expand the view out here in the pacific, there's a circulation out here, and there's a frontal band right about here. and this will be the first rain producer first thing tomorrow morning. and then throughout the day, the cold, unstable air that will filter into the bay area. and that could lead to some thunderstorms. so it could be it will be a bit unsettled for your weekend. we'll talk more about this and we'll gradually warm

things up in your five day forecast. eventually we'll have the update coming up in a little bit. >> all right mark, thanks. we'll see you shortly. tonight in oakland, the a's played at the coliseum the first time since the team announced they'll be moving to sacramento for the 2025 season. ktvu is alice woods joins us live from the ballpark with the mixed reactions from fans. alice. >> that's right, greg, we're here at the coliseum where the fans trickled in tonight for the game against the washington nationals. now, news is out that the a's have decided they're going to take up residence in sacramento for the 2025 season. we talked to some folks to see how they feel about that. >> drumsticks, chicken, the aroma of meat on the barbecue wafting through the air from tailgate to tailgate, music playing. >> but the feeling is different tonight. fans know this is the last season of the a's here in oakland. last week, the team announced it's officially heading to sacramento for the 2025 season. >> well, i wanted them to stay,

but i know that that it's a business, so they have to make money. and, it's too bad they couldn't come up with an agreement for them to stay. >> your season ticket holders. yes. well you continue to be season ticket holders next year. sacramento is the equal distance from mercedes. >> oakland is. and you don't have to cross the altamont. so probably so there's no word as to any guarantees for current seat holders. we haven't heard an offer from the a's yet, so we don't know what they're going to do for us. >> native oakland jose patino is like others, rizzo with the inevitable. >> it's too bad that they couldn't come up to him with an agreement for them to build another stadium. you know? but i mean, that's the way it is. i mean, there's nothing that we actually can do. >> others blame the owners and elected leaders for the loss of our home team. >> i hope at some point, oakland's leadership will come to the knowledge that we have to do better. we can't just think one way. we can't be like everybody else. we got to think

did win 2 to 1 against the washington nationals. now, as far as the, folks go, there were only about 5777 people here in the stadium tonight. greg >> all right, alice. thank you. we'll have the highlights from tonight's game later in sports. plus the latest as the warriors fight to improve their playoff position. >> new details tonight on the plan to rename oakland international airport. the alameda county board of supervisors has endorsed the new name. the port of oakland says the visual brand of the airport will stay the same after port commissioners voted last night to change the airport's name to san francisco bay oakland international, they say this is part of a larger effort to improve the passenger experience. it includes upgrading the terminal one lobby and restrooms and providing new local concessions and restaurants. the port expects to give the final approval of the new name on may 9th. >> a recount is scheduled to begin monday in the 16th congressional district race that

ended in a tie for second place. santa clara county plans to conduct a machine recount next week that will run monday through friday for sam. former san jose mayor sam liccardo, former sam liccardo staffer. excuse me, jonathan padilla requested the recount and is required to pay the cost. the two candidates, evan low and joe simitian, who tied for second place with both advance to face sam liccardo in november. if the recount results in a tie, it is not clear yet whether san mateo county, which makes up a portion of the district, will also conduct a recount. >> but coming up first, friday's return to oakland organizers welcome the community back. but financial concerns remain. >> plus, weekend closures of a bay area highway have been delayed, with drivers in the north bay need to know. >> and coming up tonight at 1030, a man from oregon fing several charges tonight following a deadly hit and run that killed a nine year old girl in contra costa county.

>> hi, greg. christina people were excited about the return of first fridays. they say it's important for oakland to continue to hold an event that showcases the beauty of the city . the executive director tells me about a new fundraiser to help keep the event going. monthly the beat goes on for oakland's first fridays following a three month hiatus. >> first friday is community. it's the people. it's supporting local businesses. >> this is highlighting the geese at lake merritt, the canadian geese. we also wanted to highlight springtime so we get some cherry blossoms. >> justin ford is among 60 vendors here. most are oaklanders. he started selling his clothing line at first fridays in 2015, for it now has a brick and mortar store in oakland. >> this is an incubator, so coming out here, meeting other oaklanders, sharing a space also with other artists, it's just a spirit of positivity and we're looking to continue to keep it going. >> first fridays focus on art, food and entertainment. a mobile wall inviting people to paint is a popular attraction. the car

show is another favorite, but the event's executive director, sherry godina, says there are changes, including no main stage with live performers. >> we're still struggling financially, we're planning a big fundraiser in june. it's a golf tournament. >> godina says the monthly event is funded by donations, grants and sponsors. the money pays for expenses including security and street closures. we're still thriving. >> we still need your business. it's just a wonderful event. >> supporters describe first fridays as being the best of oakland because of its authenticity and embrace of diversity. >> we're just so glad that they're here today. and so what we can do to support and keep these community things going, we're here for that. >> the executive director tells me it appears there is enough funds to hold first fridays through the end of the year. her goal is to expand the event, which now spans six blocks to a total of nine blocks towards downtown oakland. >> wow. hopefully they can stay

in business, keep it going and a lot of people looking forward to it. >> yes, absolutely. it's a wonderful event. >> all right, amber thank you. thank you. >> the biggest event honoring labor leader cesar chavez is coming to san francisco tomorrow. the festival starts at 10 a.m. on 24th street from folsom to bryant, and the annual parade begins at 19th and dolores at 11 a.m, winding up at mission and 24th. people will enjoy live performances, games for kids, a lowrider car show, and of course, a variety of food vendors. the late cesar chavez spent decades advocating for farm workers and co-founded the united farm workers union. >> new at ten caltrans is pushing back its planned closure of highway 37 this weekend, with wet weather moving in. the paving work will now start on friday the 19th of april. westbound highway 37 between highway 29 and vallejo and 121 in sonoma will shut down that weekend, and the following weekend, the eastbound lanes will be closed the weekends of may 3rd and may 10th. >> caltrans says the work to stabilize the crumbling cliff

near highway one in big sur will reach an important milestone by memorial day. it's been nearly two weeks since heavy rain washed out this part of the cliff side south of the rocky creek bridge. right now, the only way in or out is a daily convoy at 7 a.m. or 5 p.m. caltrans says they anticipate enough work being done to stabilize this part of the highway by may 27th, after which the convoy system will end and there will be alternating one way traffic through the area without an escort. there's no estimate for when the road will be fully repaired. >> well, tracking another cold system approaching the bay area, so temperatures started to cool off. today the real cool air will move in tomorrow and into sunday as well, so it's going to be a cool, unsettled weekend here in the bay area in terms of rainfall expectations, not just a few sprinkles, these numbers could be adding up and the bulk of the rainfall could be targeting the santa cruz mountains. that's the area where we could be talking about an inch and a half to possibly two inches of rain, but a place like san francisco could be approaching an inch and up in

the north bay over an inch of rain as well. so showing you this, the rain returns tomorrow morning, and the possibility of some thunderstorms throughout the day on saturday. and it's cold enough that we're tracking some snow in the sierra. know at least right around lake tahoe. we do not have any winter storm watches or anything like that, but they'll pick up around 3 to 8in of snow this weekend, and snow levels will be coming down and starting off at about 6000ft, eventually coming down to around 4500 or 5000ft. lots of clouds moving into the bay area right now. you can see some green showing up on the radar. ukiah there's that one band moving into mendocino county and santa rosa has been reporting some light rain over the past few hours in fact, some scattered rain showers have been focused primarily up in the north bay this evening. here's a satellite. you can see the circulation. so that's the area of low pressure that is cool, unstable air that will lead to some more thunderstorm chances as we move into your saturday, you probably notice the winds picking up throughout the day. it's still breezy to windy out there this evening. oakland airport winds sustained at 24 miles an hour. san jose winds

gusting to 26 miles an hour. here's our live camera looking out toward the golden gate bridge, and the rain will gradually develop as we head into the overnight hours across the entire bay area. as far as current temperatures. lots of 50s to report right now for the 10:00 hour. starting out the day in the 40s tomorrow morning, a rain chances go up quite a bit, especially by sunrise. so here's the forecast model. this is early 5 a.m. tomorrow morning and then 9:00. we could actually have some breaks once that front moves on through. and then some off and on, scattered showers and maybe some thunderstorms that could pop up throughout the afternoon hours. we will eventually bring back the 80s in our five day forecast, and we'll have the update in a few minutes . mark. >> thank you. the former interpreter for dodgers star shohei ohtani, accused of stealing millions of dollars, made his first federal court appearance in los angeles today. the appearance came shortly after 39 year old ippei mizuhara turned himself into authorities, according to the department of justice. he faces felony bank fraud charges for allegedly stealing $16 million from ohtani to cover illegal gambling debts.

ohtani maintains he is a victim, saying he had no idea. his interpreter was supposedly involved in illegal gambling. if convicted, mizuhara faces a 30 year sentence. >> if he's a lawful permanent resident, he's going to be facing an aggravated felony under the immigration laws and eventually he will be deported, mizuhara was released on a $25,000 bond. >> he was ordered to return for his arraignment, scheduled for may 9th. >> coming up, a judge today refusing to throw out federal gun charges against hunter biden. >> plus, we are learning more about the effort to increase punishments for people who engage in child sex trafficking here in california. the lawmaker behind a new state bill also entire safe stolen from a south bay business. >> the growing frustration for shop owners in san jose

the case is politically motivated. today's ruling increases the likelihood the president's son could face trial as early as june. the case claims biden lied on a form about his drug use in october 2018 to buy a gun. he kept for about 11 days. biden also faces charges in los angeles, alleging he failed to pay at least $1.4 million in taxes over three years. he has pleaded not guilty in both cases, former president donald trump and house speaker mike johnson are urging lawmakers to support a bill that would prevent non-citizens from voting. >> speaker johnson and the republican presidential candidate addressed the issue during a news conference in palm beach. critics say the bill is redundant. it's already illegal for non-citizens to vote in federal elections, and people who register are already required to provide a driver's license or social security number. the speaker says it will establish new safeguards. >> since 1993, the national voter registration act, we call

it the motor voter law allows people to sign up to vote when they get a driver's license. >> if an individual only asserts or simply states that they are a citizen, they don't have to prove it. >> experts say cases of voter fraud are exceedingly rare. the brennan center for justice said it's more likely an american will be struck by lightning than impersonate another person at the polls. >> vice president kamala harris pointed the finger at the former president for growing restrictions on abortion nationwide. she held a reproductive freedom event in tucson. this follows the arizona supreme court's decision to uphold the 1864 law that bans abortions entirely, except to save the life of the mother. vice president harris striking what is sure to be a key campaign theme for democrats as president donald trump hand-picked three members of the united states supreme court because he intended intended for them to overturn roe and as he

intended, they did go too far. former president trump said today that arizona has gone too far and urged state lawmakers to, quote, remedy the law. >> today, the house of representatives voted to reauthorize the section of the foreign intelligence surveillance act, or fisa, allowing the u.s. to spy on non-americans overseas without a warrant. section 702 passed after hours of debate and a failed vote earlier this week. the new version of the bill would renew fisa for two years instead of five, a change made to appease conservative hardliners who take the vote earlier. section 702 is usually used to watch suspected terrorists, hackers and drug traffickers. but sometimes americans get caught up in the surveillance. this has prompted a bipartisan push to include an amendment mandating warrants to look through data on americans, even if a true target is a foreigner. the amendment failed in the final second. >> it would have killed fisa and it would have killed our ability

two year old jesus ivan dorantes guzman now faces hit and run charges and child abuse charges. the incident happened around 520 sunday morning when chp says he crashed on northbound 680 at the 242 split in coord. five people werinjured in the crash, three of them minors and nine year old dana herndez tapia was killed. prosecutors say dorantes gman ft the scene and was found days later by police in cola county. dorantes guzman's arraignment is scheduled for monday. his bail is set at $1 million. >> frustration tonight for a business owner in san jose. >> the owner's sports bar and event space is the latest spot to get hit by thieves. this time, the suspects taking off with an entire safe as ktvu

south bay reporter and ruben shows us this latest crime has caught the attention of the mayor and the police chief for owners of the guild house in san jose, this was the last straw. >> a team cuts through the back door with tools, takes the entire safe and leaves, taking thousands of dollars, causing thousands more in damage. >> and it isn't the first time the esports and gaming club has had eight break ins so far. three this year alone. >> every time we've had a break in, we've increased our cameras, we've increased our closing procedures, we've increased our locks and it just is not helping. >> and so they've decided to go public. posting their frustration and video of the crime online that caught the attention of the mayor and the police chief. they toured the guild house today and say combating downtown crime is a priority. >> one of the big things we're emphasizing is presence and visibility. >> through having foot patrols and community service officers down in the downtown core every day, the san jose downtown

association has already been working with local businesses. >> they alerted police to a serial burglar arrested in february, and now there are reports of at least two other safe thefts. >> right now, we're on an upswing, trent, again, that we need to curb and address. >> the guild house has added more security yet again, and they've gone cashless. but they say if downtown safety doesn't improve, businesses will suffer. >> we're not going to give up and we're not going to close our businesses down. but it's just very, it's very frustrating. >> we're a small business. small businesses operate on very thin margins. and, this is just one more hit that, you know, we didn't want to take. >> san jose plans to add bike patrols later this year. they also have something called the crime capture program, where businesses can apply for a free camera. they also plan to focus on increasing police staffing. guildhouse hopes that all this will make a difference in san jose and ruben. ktvu, fox two

news. >> san jose police say this man is now in custody for allegedly bringing a gun to the eastridge center shopping mall. officers responded to a report of a brandished firearm at the mall around 730 last night. they say the suspect ran away, but the department's air three helicopter directed officers to his location, where he was arrested. police say they recovered the loaded gun during their chase. >> san jose police say two men are in custody for the illegal manufacture and sale of weapons. police say the investigation follows up on a previous firearms case. pictures here show some of what officers seized while serving a search warrant at a home, and a storage unit on wednesday. the evidence included two assault rifles, assault rifle and firearm parts and more. >> they located three assault rifle receivers, thousands of rounds of ammunition and other, evidence which indicated that the suspects were manufacturing and selling the firearms.

>> two men were taken into custody at the home near iver ashe court and stone canyon drive. they are identified as 29 year old david rios and 38 year old dustin mull, both of san jose. >> a sad update tonight out of sonoma county officials there have located the body of a missing boy who was swept into the russian river yesterday. two teenagers were swept into the waters near steelhead beach around 440 on thursday afternoon . the sonoma county sheriff's office says by the time they arrived, one of the teens was able to get out of the water on their own. but they spent much of the night searching for the other teen. authorities found his body around 1030 this morning. they are now working to confirm his identity. >> new at ten tonight, we are hearing from the state senator behind a new bill that would increase the punishments for people who engage in child sex trafficking. >> right now, under california law, that crime is a misdemeanor . but as reporter ashley zavala tells us, one republican state senator is trying to make it a felony as a misdemeanor.

>> right now, buyers can spend a maximum of one year behind bars, plus a $10,000 fine. groves proposal, sb 1414, proposes to increase the punishment to a felony with up to four years in prison. she also proposes to have these buyers register as sex offenders for ten years. senator grove says this will build off of her work from last year, when state lawmakers changed the law to consider child sex trafficking a serious felony in california. this bill is supported by both democrats and republicans. >> a lot of the survivors are lived, experienced experts were saying, you got to go after the buyer. it's just a misdemeanor. and i thought, there is no way if you buy. i thought they were mistaken. >> opponents of this measure include several criminal justice reform groups, including the californians for safety and justice, ella baker center for human rights and the california public defenders association. that association, in its opposition, has said that

current law already addresses the issue. it also said in part, this bill punishes some defendants more harshly felony punishment and sex offender registration, even when those persons do not have the intent to have sex with a minor. >> that was ashley zavala reporting. similar proposals have been blocked at the state capitol since 2014, according to legislative documents. >> google says some california residents will no longer see california based news websites in their searches as it takes a stance against legislation making its way through sacramento. at issue here is the california journalism preservation act. if governor newsom signs it into law, tech giants like google would be required to pay certain news outlets a fee for articles featured in their searches. in a new blog post defending the decision, a google executive claims the bill favors big media companies and would hurt local papers. supporters argue the bill would support publishers already struggling to find a digital audience in a statement tonight from california, senate

between the registered nurses professional association and county leaders, the nurses union tells the san jose spotlight they might go on strike again. a three day strike earlier this month forced the county to spend $20 million on outside nurses to keep the three county hospitals operating. the nurses say in addition to pay, they are calling attention to short staffing and workplace safety. county executive james williams said the county is ready to sit down with the nurses at any time. >> all right. just when you thought the bay
