- Jeffry bEssendon, Australia14,213 contributionsOne of the world's finest natural harborsHong Kong has one of the world's best landformed natural harbors. Victoria Harbour is a spectacular sight, especially at night. In daylight, you can walk along the water or take the Star Ferry. For a few cents, you can take the Star Ferry between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon -- it's one of the world's great bargains. When the British colonized Hong Kong in 1841, this magnificent harbor was one of the main attractions. The harbor remained the center of business and commerce in Hong Kong for many years.Visited February 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten April 28, 2023
- SophiaMalmö, Sweden21 contributionsA mustGorgeous harbor that's pretty both day and night! The light show is on every night at 20:00 and lasts for about 10 minutes. A little disappointed by it as I thought it was gonna be more lights but definatly something to see if you're by the harbour at that time as it's free.Visited August 2023Written August 16, 2023
- Olivia Duits2 contributionsBreathtakingVictoria Harbour in Hong Kong is an absolute showstopper! The view of the iconic skyline against the shimmering water is just breathtaking. Watching the Symphony of Lights illuminate the cityscape at night is like being in a sci-fi movie. Taking a leisurely stroll along the promenade and feeling the cool breeze off the water is pure bliss. However, it can get insanely crowded, especially during peak tourist times. Finding a quiet spot to soak in the view can be a bit of a challenge, and you might have to deal with elbow-to-elbow crowds. But honestly, that's a small price to pay for the spectacle that is Victoria Harbour.Visited November 2022Written September 11, 2023

Be sure to ride the Star Ferry across the harbor to see the skyline of both Hong Kong and Kowloon. I wasn't impressed with the 8-minute Symphony of Lights show this time (daily at 8 pm) as I thought the show was more spectacular 10 years ago.Visited September 2023Traveled soloWritten September 30, 2023
- Dan LBunbury, Australia7,494 contributionsNamed for Queen Victoria.Didn't have enough time to cross the harbour and visit HK island but still enjoyed the views from Kowloon Peninsula and Tsim Sha Tsui. Changed from our first visit in 1982 and subsequent visits, the water is much cleaner and without the residue of inhabitants fouling everywhere. Rightly regarded as one of the world's best and foremost natural harbours, the sight from the Northern shores is spectacular with the HK skyline to the South and the amazing nightly laser show. Surprised to see so few boats in the harbour. No visit to Hong Kong is complete without a visit to Victoria Harbour.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 17, 2023

You can’t leave Hong Kong without spending some time around or on Victoria Harbour. It’s true that the harbour has been subjected to rampant development over the years and that land reclamation has reshaped and shrunk its shores, but it is still a beautiful, colourful and exciting harbour. Even if you have limited time in Hong Kong, I’d recommend taking the Star Ferry across the harbour. As far as transport goes, it’s as iconic as a gondola in Venice, a San Francisco tram or a London double-decker.
Recently the waterfront promenades along both sides of the harbour have been upgraded and are now beautiful, open walkways along the harbour front.
On one side, the Central Promenade runs from the Star Ferry piers to Wan Chai and is a wide, flat path with several viewing decks, art installations, landscaped parkland and seating areas. Opposite, on the TST side, another promenade allows you to walk from the Star Ferry, along the Avenue of the Stars. It’s hard to say which walk is better but keep in mind that from the TST side, you get to look across at the famous Hong Kong city skyline. In the evening, it’s the best spot to watch the Symphony of Lights play out across the Hong Kong buildings.

It was from within these waters that Hong Kong came into possession fo the British and grew into the city we all know today. The harbour is nearly 42 square km in size and 43 metres at its deepest point.
You can watch thousands of boats of all size ply its waters day and night. Interestingly, there are no bridges that connect Hong Kong Island to the south with Kowloon to the north of Victoria Harbour. However, there are underground road tunnels, MTR metro service as well as our beloved and iconic Star Ferry passenger vessels which slowly transport city residents and tourists back and forth across the harbour - this is one of Nat Geo's 50 experiences everyone should do at least once during their lifetime.
There are other harbour ferry companies offering hour or longer boat trips around Victoria Harbour. Otherwise, you can enjoy it from the promenade waterfronts that line both HK Island and TST on the Kowloon Peninsula. The views of the Hong Kong Skyline, Victoria Harbour and Victoria Peak in the background, as seen from the TST promenade on the Kowloon side can be incredible when sky conditions are favourable. Both day and night views and photos are great from this location.
Higher vantage point views of Victoria Harbour can be had at restaurants and sky bars on the upper floors of many skyscrapers on both sides. For a view from the clouds, Sky 100 Observation Deck is your place. Views of the harbour to the north, from Victoria Peak are breathtaking as well. This is where you find the classic postcard pictures of Hong Kong.

Hong Kong's stunning Victoria Harbour is a geographical highlight for pretty much all visitors to the city. It is where the British first arrived and developed the modern city we have today, directly upon her shores and there are numerous ways to enjoy time on and around this magnificent body of water.
Numerous hotels, restaurants, a handful of bars and even our Museum of Art offer excellent views of Victoria Harbour. There are nicely developed promenades and leisure parks on both sides of the harbour in Kowloon and Hong Kong Island as well, from which you can enjoy mornings, afternoons and evenings admiring the views of the water and skylines on both sides. Visitors can also enjoy short rides across the harbour on the historic Star Ferry as well as longer, slower rides around the harbour with Star Ferry and other companies.
In the end, there are many ways to enjoy Victoria Harbour. As locals we do so regularly, as a visitor to Hong Kong, you will want to as well.

With all the land fill (reclamation) going on, Victoria Harbor is truly getting smaller each year. It has shrunk to less than 40% of its original width of over 2300 meters due to the incessant land fill projects to create more usable land. Still, it is still a majestic harbor, best viewed from Victoria Peak and enjoyed cheaply by a crossing on the Star Ferry.

Everyone talks about the views but Hong Kong takes mass transportation to whole another level.
There are small wooden boats to huge cruise ships, tunnels, bridges, ferries, cargo ships, trains criss crossing under water and 20 years ago there was an airport too. Right in the middle of all this.
And it all runs systemically like a clock without colliding with one another. Victoria Harbour is not only delight for your eyes but efficiently smooth as well.

Victoria Harbour is one of the best ways to see the HK skyline up close. Whether it is clear skies or overcast, there is always character to appreciate.
The water is choppier over the years as a result of the development and the water is probably polluted but whether by Star Ferry, Junk or Private Boat, the experience is different every time.

You can stay as long as you like. No one can predict whether or not the current situation will be stable when you are here, and when your are here, where in the greater Hong Kong area you will be other than around Victoria Harbor. At best it is a flip-the-coin situation. The odds-are-good that you would have no problems. But there are no guarantees. Best Wishes if you visit. I've been to Kolkata many times.

There is only one night and sound show at 8:00 every night. However you can still walk along the harbour side to enjoy the lighting on the two sides. Tsim Sha Tsui is a good place to do so. Just wanna remind you, MTR is usually off at about 0030. Enjoy!

E' un centro direzionale ricco di ristoranti, hotel e centri commerciali. C'è anche un centro congressi ed un quartiere fieristico. C'è un punto di partenza del traghetto per godersi in serata lo Skyline di Hong Kong

You can visit all day long. During the day there is much activity and sightseeing tours and at night, the nighttime sparkles with the twinkling lights of the building. Night shopping on both sides of the harbour are open and there is a lot of entertainments that go with it. The city and harbour come alive at night. This is an opportunity not to be missed.
