It’s probably not a surprise that this is a complaint, given the multitude of complaints about AirAsia as a sub-par budget airline carrier in recent years. We have avoided it for this exact reason, but have decided against our gut to travel with this airline for our Bangkok trip. Our return flight back to Singapore was on flight FD351 at 445pm Thai time, on the 5th of May. The moment we boarded the flight as Zone 3 passengers, the plane was already packed and left us with limited overhead cabin space. My duffel bag was stuck to my handbag, so my husband was helping me to untangle the straps. We took less than 30 seconds to figure this out, and proceeded to put our larger bags in the overhead compartment as we did not want to hold up the queue. It was challenging as I mentioned the overhead cabin was already full. We bought snacks and souvenirs from the airport, and my husband also tied the reusable bag before putting it in the overhead as it was quite bulky. Out of nowhere, this air stewardess (her name tag is Phapada) swooped in and started reprimanding us LOUDLY about storing our snack bag overhead which was weird. “We only allow bigger bags, you have to store it under your seat!”. Fine. She noticed we were clearly struggling with our baggage (we also have check-in baggage mind you), but did absolutely nothing to help and even told us loudly (again, the entire airport could hear her probably) to get out of the way so people can move into the plane. How about help us with the baggage instead of giving us attitude and blaming us for being slow? It’s not like it’s our life goal to hold up the line for other travellers you know. She walked away, came back and was polite to the other passengers, even when one continually blocked the passengers as he was retrieving items from the overhead bin and her asking him to move. At the end of the flight we also noticed other passengers had placed their loose plastic bags of snacks, souvenirs and even glass bottles in the overhead compartment. I mean hey, if it’s a rule, sure we will abide by them, but to see this happening only to us is just unspeakable. We were unhappy because she was extremely rude and dismissive, honestly it’s behaviour that’s acceptable if she were my mother, but seriously unacceptable if you are a stewardess. So much for Thai hospitality. My husband is literally the nicest man you will ever meet, and even he got really pissed off at the lack of empathy and just plain rude behaviour. She needs additional etiquette training or just learn basic respect to human beings. We honestly have already a low bar when it comes to budget carriers, but this air stewardess just sets a new low. Avoid AirAsia Thailand at all costs unless you want to be yelled at for just existing and doing nothing wrong and I guess plenty of other things they are just terrible at.…
