【「開電腦」英文怎麼說？】

❎I have to open my computer.

啊！「開電腦」英文怎麼說？你應該是知道的，但還是很難避免這個錯誤。英文裡頭，很多東西的「開」要用 turn on。

其實，open my computer 的意思是「我要撬開我電腦」！一般人這樣做，就會破壞電腦！如果好好統計一下我的學生說 open the computer的次數，我想每一個人平均已經弄壞了幾千台電腦跑不掉！

一般電腦性的東西（手機、平板電腦等）以及家電都說turn on；然後，「關」會說 turn off，不是 close。如...

I turn on my smartphone every morning, and turn it off at night.
（我每天早上會打開智慧型手機，晚上再關機。）

Turn off your iPad. You don't want to waste batteries.
（關掉你的iPad。你不會想浪費電池的。）

有時候open the computer 是正確的，例如，修理電腦的人可能真的會打開它。或者比較了解電腦的人可能會為了放進顯示卡、晶片等而打開電腦。

不過，英文很麻煩的是：開啟這個意思，電腦要用turn on；但是打開/ 關上某個軟體（software），就真的要說open / close：

I opened Microsoft Word and wrote a report.
（我開啟 Word 寫報告。）

Hey, this program won't open! What's wrong?
（嘿！這程式打不開！出了什麼問題？）

You're running too many programs. You should close a few.
（你開啟太多程式了，你應該關掉一些。）

I closed Internet Explorer.
（我關閉IE。）

我也不能省略「開燈」。這是第二常見機械性將「開」翻譯成 open 的字。

❎Hey, it's dark. Open the light!
✅Hey, it's dark. Turn on the light!
（嘿！很暗耶，把燈打開！）

撬開燈比電腦更搞破壞吧！

電腦與燈的「開」通常都說 turn on！
