The City Island Nautical Museum is an interesting little museum that covers many parts of the history of City Island from its beginnings as a place the Native Americans used for fishing and shelling, to the ship building and sail creating industries to today's hospitality and restaurant industries.
It covers life on the island including the fire department, the schools and the history of the downtown area. There is an extensive room on the ship building industry and the yacht competitions. Many of the America's Cup yachts were built on City Island, something they are very proud of since so many won over a hundred year period.
There is a small gallery dedicated to local artists and an extensive library that people can research the islands history. I can be a little mish-mosh but at the same time there is a lot of potential in the future for this little museum.
For $5.00, it is worth the donation.
