Excellent Mueseum of the History of Hip Hop. We came in August when the museum had a free month and exhibition. The Evolution of Hip Hop 1986-1990. It was excellent and really informative. With screens showing videos and lots of exhibits from the time. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed our visit and look forward to the new building opening soon. Hopefully do the new one when in New York next.

The City Island Nautical Museum is an interesting little museum that covers many parts of the history of City Island from its beginnings as a place the Native Americans used for fishing and shelling, to the ship building and sail creating industries to today's hospitality and restaurant industries.

It covers life on the island including the fire department, the schools and the history of the downtown area. There is an extensive room on the ship building industry and the yacht competitions. Many of the America's Cup yachts were built on City Island, something they are very proud of since so many won over a hundred year period.

There is a small gallery dedicated to local artists and an extensive library that people can research the islands history. I can be a little mish-mosh but at the same time there is a lot of potential in the future for this little museum.

For $5.00, it is worth the donation.

A bit hard to get to if you’re using public transportation, but a great little museum, filled with Judaica artifacts that are eclectic , beautiful and well curated. It’s part of the Hebrew Home nursing home campus. It also has an outdoor sculpture garden overlooking the Hudson River. Well worth the visit if you are in the area. You coukd combine it with a visit to nearby Wave Hill, too.

Extensive library for research, and a rotating exhibit at 18th C. Valentine Varian House. Most recent one is "ghostly." The archives can tell you pretty much anything you need to know about the Bronx. Best is if you can corner the amazingly entertaining Bronx County Historian Lloyd Ultan. He can be found there a couple of days a week.

It is a National landmark. Beautifully built with an amazing history. Looks like it is undergoing renovations. Many movies were made in this building.

It is not a large museum, but there were some nice contemporary exhibits. On prior trips, I was in the Bronx when it was closed (Mon/Tues). It's free with a timed ticket, but the place was so empty that another visitor got in by making a reservation at the front desk.
