以林屋为中心，环山数千亩梅林连绵不断，其面积之大、梅种之多、密度之高堪称全国之最。林屋自古为赏梅胜地，自唐朝起就留下了深厚的梅文史迹。这里有红梅、绿梅、白梅，尤以白梅最多。每到梅花盛开时节，数千亩梅花，白茫茫一片，似雪、似海，景象极为壮观。林屋梅海还是中国梅文化研究基地，每年一次的中国太湖梅花节在此举办。
石公山是西山镇东南隅的一座山峰，排列西山八景之首。它三面临水，岩石奇秀，翠柏葱郁。石公山以前有奇石两块，伛偻似老翁的就是石公，另一块是石婆。他俩差肩而立，相对而望，传说在日夜思念着隔湖的大姑、小姑。石公之名由此而得。
