    Independent travel Beijing to Gubei
Take a taxi to Dongzhimenwai bus station, aiming to arrive no later than 820am. Look for bus 980 and/or a small sign referring to gubei. The cost is 48yuen.. cash only (no alipay or WeChat) and is paid as you're boarding. It departs 9am daily

    Beautiful town with nice activities
Very beautiful town even though it is artificially constructed over 5 year period. We went there with tour that gives you access to tour the water town and also to Simatai Great Wall via a cable car and short hike. The town is beautiful with a few interesting food to try, and has quite a bit of ancillary activities going on, ranging from traditional opera singing, drone performance, to water show and photo opportunities with artists in traditional costume. We were told the activities vary across seasons so do check before booking if you're concerned about this. We were so lucky to catch a drone show at night! You also get to see the Simatai Great Wall light up in the night by the town. Food and drinks are on pricier tourist side but a nice experience in all.

    A must see in Beijing
My wife had always wanted to visit Gubei Water Twon, but whenever we have time off work, so does the rest of China and this place is usually packed. The hotels are very expensive too; between 2,500-3,500 a night. We came during Tomb Sweeping Festival on a Sunday when the rest of the people had to return to work and we paid 900rmb. It turned out to be perfect because there were far fewer people and got to experience the place in comfort. Be prepared as virtually no one speaks English except for the hotel front desk and even that is not certain. The sights are fantastic, the food is okay and the comfort level on an off day was very uplifting. The drone night show was pretty cool and way more than what I had imagined as the drones laid out near the Great Wall. The hot springs are indeed hot and were not crowded. The ride on the waterway was short, but doable. The staff were welcoming and most people were pleasant. This should be on a list of things not to pass up during an extended stay in Beijing.

This water town is about 2 hours drive from Beijing city. For those who have been to Wuzhen (in outskirts of Shanghai), there is a heavy resemblance as I'm told that this place is modeled after the latter.

There is plenty to do inside. The bonus of going in winter is that the streams are frozen and converted to skating rinks. There are also ice sculptures at various parts of the town.

The other advantage of visiting this town is that it is linked to the Simatai leg of the Great Wall. It is best to stay until evening time as the lights of the town and the Great Wall are magnificent.

Super cute town & fun place for a one night getaway. Yes, it’s a little pricey but it really was beautiful. We stayed in a quaint inn that was relatively clean & had a balcony overlooking the canal. The park was extremely clean & well-maintained. We paid to take the cable car up the mountain & to take a boat ride through the canal but exploring the town was included in the cost. We could have easily spent more time at this beautiful park & hope to return in the future.

We went to visit at the start of December. It was freezing cold but that added to the charm of the place, the lake was frozen and there were some lovely snow sculptures. Made the place even more photogenic!

Spent the afternoon wandering around seeing the beautiful sights and trying some of the food at the small vendors. There are also cafes and restaurants where you can sit indoors.

We waited until the evening for the drone display. It was wonderful, never seen anything quite like it!

Overall it was a great place to unwind and get out of the city. I would recommend to everyone visiting Beijing. It is worth the long and slightly cramped bus journey on the 51. But you can take a didi if you're feeling fancy!

I half expected re-enactments because this place gave me theme park vibes. I enjoyed walking around and trying the food. I enjoyed wondering around the town, maybe there wasn’t much more to offer considering the pandemic but it would have been nice to see. Bring bugs spray for the evening cause they swarmed my and my party 😩

This is a great long weekend getaway from Beijing. it is less than an hours drive. I went here with a group of friends during Christmas time. We had such a fun time! Walking aournd is like being transported back a few hundred years. It is so sweet and beautiful. The area also has hot water springs resports, massage, ice skating, and easy acess to the Great Wall. The Great Wall that is at Gubei is the only part of the wall that is open at night. It is a beautiful time to go up to the wall. I hgely recommed this as a short getaway from Beijing.

A very nice resort around 2 hours away from Beijing citycore. It's hard to believe that it's all man made. You can see the night view of Simaitai Great Wall by taking a cable car. There are many hot spa hotels in this resort.
