So look, here's the deal. It's very busy here, even in October as it's often still over 20c.
As many will say, it's also an urban dwellers beach where people come to pose, be seen, exercise, swim, sunbathe, eat, drink and be merry...and generally get away from city life even though it's just 15-20 minutes on a bus or tram to be back in the thick of central Barcelona.
One thing I really liked about Barceloneta, more so than the beach itself which is vast (and needs to be for a city with 3 million+ people excluding tourists), is the fact that you really do feel like you've left the main part of the city and entered a seaside resort when you come here. Yes, it's busier and not nearly as relaxed as some coastal resorts, but it's still got a decent vibe and I quite liked it.
Plenty of places to eat and drink, in semi off-peak season (early October) it was still busy but felt like it was a more pleasant pace and like there was more space and friendliness in the air.
I wouldn't say this would be a beach of choice for me, but the area as a whole is a nice escape from the continuous craziness of Barcelona itself and the fact it's so easy to get to from the centre of Barcelona is a real bonus and this is why so many people love this city as it's on the coast and has beaches...albeit I still prefer Madrid!
Then again, I prefer the smaller cities in Spain to Madrid, so that's irrelevant!

Loved this beach, it was such a chilled vibe and felt very safe. There wasnt anyone pushing to sell stuff like on some other beaches. The sea was beautiful and clear, there was a volleyball area and a lot of locals which was lovely. Also plenty of food and drink options around.

This beach was quite a walk away from Barceloneta, but the further you get the quiet the beaches. Not as many facilities as closer to the main part of the city, but bring drinks and hope you don’t need the toilet!

We went to Mar Bella beach on consecutive 2 days midweek in July and had two contrasting naturist experiences.
The naturist section of the beach is small and occupies the sections numbered 30 to 32.
The nearest metro stations are Poblenou and Selva de Mar, both about 15 minutes walk away.
On the first day we rented 2 sunbeds and an umbrella in front of the BeGay bar at a cost of 45 Euros. I found this to be very expensive and then was told we could not eat or drink our own food and drink (besides water) whilst seated in front of the bar! The bar itself pumped out techno music the whole day which meant you couldn't really relax. The majority of the people sunbathing around the bar area wore a swim suit (must have been around 95% clothed). I think I was the only naked person using a sunbed and there were no naked people in the bar. Not a great naturist experience to be surrounded by mainly clothed people on a naturist beach.
The next day we brought our own umbrella and sunbathed on a different part of the beach (at the Poblenou end). This was a much better naturist experience and there was a more even number of naked and clothed people. There was a good mixture of male and female people on this part of the beach. It was encouraging to see so many young women feeling safe enough to naked on a beach. We couldn't hear the music from the bar which meant I was able to relax and read in peace.
In conclusion I recommend going to this naturist beach as there is a mixture of male and females and it has a young age group giving it a lively vibe. I would avoid the area around the BeGay bar unless you are into techno music and don't mind paying over the odds for a sunbed and umbrella. As a naturist be prepared to be in the minority in certain parts of the beach and certain areas have more men than women.
I would also recommend visiting the Rambla de Poblenou, near Poblenou metro, for great bars and restaurants (much nicer area than La Rambla in the centre of town).

One of the most famous beaches in Barcelona.

I found it to be very crowded but i guess that’s expected when a beach is so close to a large city.

It’s at the end of the Rambla so that adds to the attraction feature .

Beautiful beach located centrally in town with all that you need close-by. Do look out for the prowling thieves on the beach though

We rented beds and parasols for the day. €45 for two beds with parasol. We were there for a whole day. It was nice to relax after a few full on days walking around.
The beach sellers are persistent and they can be very annoying. Not sure they understand personal space.
Please make sure you are paying the right person for the beds. They will have a card reading machine and you’ll get a receipt! They will also give you a small table (so they can see who has paid) The beach sellers will do anything for a quick buck! No one should be charging you to sit on the sand!
There’s are restaurants and bars close by and a small parade of shops where you’ll find a Burger King. Taxi rank close by (near the Casino) Taxi from La Rambla to the beach and back was €9 each way.
Also a brilliant place to search for sea glass.

Nice city beach, close to the town to walk, run or just chill out. Good choice of restaurant can be found around.
