There are at least 3 multi-storey malls along the street, so after going to bai ma there are 2 others to hit. Each one has numerous stores selling clothes, shoes, even jewelry, all at cut rate prices. A lot of dross mixed in with the good stuff so patience is a virtue. Easy access by subway. While you can usually negotiate a lower price if buying in bulk, drawback is most shops don't let you try on the clothes before buying.

This is a fun market in which to purchase inexpensive clothing. The majority of the items can be purchased in small quantities. Some retailers will only sell in bulk quantities of 5, 10, 100, 500, or more. Bargaining is possible in many of the stores. On this visit, I purchased some clothing and backpacks for my grandchildren.

Guangzhou really lived up to its reputation. There were wholesale markets everywhere, and Chinese fakes everything they can fake. Famous branding clothing was one of them. Everything is sold here, so remember to tag along with an expert to not get cheated here. If you're lucky enough, you can buy some quality clothes here at dirt cheap price. And remember to bargain anytime, anywhere you can.

They do retails too, but even at wholesale price I think it is still expensive. I think this place is overrated & touristy, so I do not recommend this place. There are many other wholesale markets around.

The Baima ( translates to: White Horse) is a large market in Guangzhou that specializes in wholesale clothes. The various vendors there display samples of products, some original chinese designs and some replicas. It is expected that you will order bulk orders from the vendors here, however some will sell you single pieces as samples if they believe that you might buy more or if they are eager for some cash that day.
The replica and knock off products are getting harder to find since China now has "brand police" who are supposed to stop the trade in replica goods, however they are still everywhere if you ask around and they like you.

If you want certain other clothing products, there are specific markets for each. There is an underwear market (about an acre of stalls selling nothing but underwear and stockings), there is a blue jean market (replica true religion jeans for about 12 dollars a pair), a shoe market, a watch market, etc.

The chinese wholesale markets (where the prices are the lowest) are all segregated like that in various locations throughout Guangzhou. You should do your research before you go, write down the names of the markets you wish to go to in Chinese.
Every cab driver in China knows 1 English phrase only, "Yes, I speak English", so you better be prepared when you want to go shopping.

This is a wholesale-retail market. Most vendors will sell one piece or a few at a discounted retail level, while others will only sell in bilk. My experience is that 80% to 90% of the vendors will sell small quantity amounts. About 85% of the available space is devoted to the sale of women’s and children’s clothing, apparel, and related items. The other 15% is devoted to men’s clothing and goods. Women’s wear includes most of the relatively new fashions of all types of women’s apparel and accessories. Most of the fashion labels are Chinese brands.

As I mentioned in a previous post, some prices are a little on the expensive side, but it is not unusual for me to buy something at 25% of the price I would pay in North America.

Look around o the various floors before you start buying. If you like something, take a photo of it and of the store’s number. The latter will help you easily find the store if you wish to return. For example, I saw a beautiful artsy T-shirt on Level -1, and the asking price was 45 rmb. The same T-shirt was offered to me on Level 1 for 130 rmb, and for 139 rmb on Level 3. The Level 1 vendor was prepared to give me a 50% discount, which would have brought the price to 65 rmb. I didn’t try to bargain down the Level 3 vendor. In the end, I paid 45 rmb to the Level -1 vendor, who was prepared to offer a 33% discount with a minimum purchase of five of the same item.

In most cases, you can make your purchase at a price lower than the original asking price. But check the quality, as there are many fakes. Some of the low prices are factory overruns, which the stores both buy and sell cheaper.

My photos include the floor numbers and what is sold on each floor. In short men’s goods are offered partially of Level -1, on about half of Level 2, and essentially all of Levels 6 and 7. There are 9 Levels in total, counting Level -1, which does not appear on the elevator listings.

The goods keep changing with the fashion. Other than jeans, most other items have a low self-life, likely under six months.

I often spend hours going through the various floors of clothing to see what is new and what interests me. It is a rare occasion that I leave without making a purchase. I generally find the most interesting goods on the first four floors, being Levels -1, 1, 2, and 4. The least expensive prices are paid on Level -1, where likely the rent is least expensive for the vendors.

This is a fun area to go shopping. There are many other garment markets in the area. Baima Garment Market accounts for about 10% to 15% of the garments and accessories being offered within one kilometre of the Guangzhou Railway Station Metro Station.

I go to Baima Garment Market by Metro (subway). Using Line 2, I leave the station at Exit D4, and walk to where you can see KFC and walk part way up the hill, past the bus station, and where you will see an opening on your right and a sign which says Baima Fashion. If you enter there, you’ll be on Level -1.
Before I commence my trips, I take a photo of my destination names in both English and Chinese. Then enroute, I’ll ask for directions whenever I am concerned that I might not be going the right way.

Travel Tip re toilets: There are many public, restaurant, and other toilets throughout Guangzhou. However, few supply tissues. Thus, to be safe, always carry an adequate supply of tissue. Most of the toilets in Baima Garment Market are dirty, have water for washing, but supply tissue and nothing to dry your hands with.

If I could only choose one clothes wholesale shopping centre visiting Guangzhou it would be Baima.
The selection is amazing, the quality generally high and prices attractive. I was surprised at the quality now achieved by many local brands.

Our tour guide took us to Baima only on our last day in Guangzhou. Kinda frustrating. Anyhow, this is where the clothing wholesale is centralized before being shipped out to the rest of the world. You can get almost every clothing needs here and that includes high quality imitation brands or "good copy" as they call it. Bargaining is a must and the more you buy (bulks) the cheaper price you will get. Vendors also allow single items purchases for the right price but however right or not the price is, it is still way cheaper than buying them elsewhere in the world. The place is always overcrowded especially during public holiday or weekends, so please be extra cautious with your belongings. Nevertheless, this is one of those places that you MUST NOT miss.

Great shopping area, especially for women’s clothing. I’ve been shopping in the area for over ten years, and make the trip out a couple of times a year. Some prices are a touch on the expensive side, but it is not unusual for me to buy something at 25% of the price I would pay in North America.

In most cases, you can make your purchase at a price lower than the original asking price. But check the quality, as there are many fakes. Some of the low prices are do to factory overruns, which the stores both buy and sell cheaper.
