From the moment you enter you actually feel peace and tranquility. It is quiet and serene. The food is not only delicious but it is unique and a work of art. The private bath in the room is great for people who are shy as both my husband and son preferred the private bath. We got two rooms and each one was so private and quiet and it was just great sitting in the bath while watching the sunset. The best part was the stay surprised us with a special seating at the bar with sparklers and dessert. The bartender even made a special drink for us that paired perfectly with the dessert. The chef was amazing as he was able to prepare a lemon custard. Perfect texture and mixing with the citrus which demonstrates the chef’s skill in cooking techniques so that the custard would not curd from the acidity of the citrus. The skin care they provide is great. Just one wash and soak in the bath here acne started to go away and her skin was glowing.

My partner and I celebrated our 15 year anniversary here and wow, it was incredible. The service is outstanding as soon as you arrive. Staff is extremely attentive. The private onsens are life changing. We never wanted to leave. The full dinner in the room every night was amazing, as was the daily breakfast. We also had massages at the spa, which were amazing. And we rented out the spa for one night and they literally fill the place with candles for you and let you use the private onsen there and bring you drinks. So amazing. Also, we sprung for the two story maisonette room and it was totally worth it. That room was not available the last night we were there (we booked late) and we got switched to one of the regular rooms, which was nice but not as private or spectacular as the maisonette. Overall, this place was unbelievable.

Hakone Ginyu is truly a hiddem gem for those seeking a healing sanctuary to melt away your daily rigors. From the attention to detail with decor through an implemention of an eclectic & bali chic ambiance, exquisite cuisine and encompassment of exceptional customer service, this oasis deserves more than 5 stars. After multiple attempts to book this ryokan, we were finally able to check Ginyu off our bucket list. We now understand why it took this long to stay here. Unlike other establishments that are always by the book, the owners and the Ginyu team truly cares about every guests' indivualized experience. Despite limitless competitors in the hospitality industry, Ginyu definitely hits the mark for avid ryokan goers like us and many others.
We would also like to give them a big kudos for being mindful of our elderly loved ones who can also enjoy this wonderful experience without any discomfort. Having an elevator for ease of accessibility, barrier free rooms that are comprised of many seating options, this is a definite go to place for senior citizens as well.
We would also like to highlight one of their team members, Jimmy, who truly exceeded our expectations. He went above and beyond to cater to our needs. We were extremely impressed with his compassionate cander and his utmost professionalism. For those seeking a truly unique and an ultimate ryokan experience, go here. You wont regret it.

We absolutely loved our Rokuyan stay at Hakone Ginyu. From the ease of the reservation process, to the beautiful check in procedures, to the high quality and friendly service from everyone we met, to the room amenities, to the spa treatments, breakfast / dinners, and surprise honeymoon desserts / gifts everything was perfect creating such a unique, relaxing, high quality experience. We were even personally driven to the airport when our flight for chance last minute to an absurdly early time. We can’t recommend Hakone Ginyu enough and really hope to be back one day.

I dont even know where to begin. One of the best experiences of my life, easily. Our bartender Jimmy stole our hearts. He was so passionate, polite, and truly enhanced our experience. We told him it was our belated honeymoon and he was so happy for us.
Then we had the most incredible food I've ever eaten in my life. A wonderful cheerful woman served us 8 courses of a variety of fine dishes (Nothing will ever come close to it again and food is forever ruined now)
Dessert however, took forever and we thought they forgot about us. No biggy, but then the bartender Jimmy came and said something was wrong with dessert and we needed to come with him for it. He led us back to the bar and when he opened the curtains we found that he shut the whole bar down for us, lit a ton of candles and made us a private honeymoon celebration. I immediately started crying. I loved him so much for that. He is a special human and his passion for life and interacting with people will stay with me forever. He made us feel so special. The whole staff is exceptional. So friendly and eager to ensure we are relaxed and happy.

I completely fell in love with the view of Mount Hakone from the open-air bath. This time, I thought it might be a bit early for autumn foliage, and it turned out to still be the fresh green season. I enjoyed an esthetic treatment, a natural hot spring spa, and a full-course meal. Additionally, thanks to the kindness of the inn, I received a surprise birthday gift. I was deeply touched by the thoughtful gesture from the inn. I'm looking forward to visiting again in Spring.

Hakone Ginyu have been my worst ever experience. i booked 3 rooms, and spent 214000 yens (2400€) for that single night. ok, the place was really looking good, the rooms were nice and the staff was pretty OK (even if 90% cant speak english, which is weird for a luxury place)
let me start with what made that experience a total failure: the diner
-ive told 6 months in advance that i dont eat seafood so i guess they had some time to make a special menu for me... but no, i had the same sheet than my friends and discovered the full seafood menu.. no problem, i love surprises so lets see what the chief made for me! first seafood course my friends got sashimis and i got....... Fried chicken with soya saulce (i can get that in any izakaya for 300 yens and it is better than it was at hakone ginyu) second seafood course i got: the cheapest ever beef part of the cheapest beef in japan: wanna know the taste? just buy the cheapeast beef you can find in a combini, put it on freezer for like 10 years, then burn it in a microwave and eat 3nd seafood course i got: the same beef, cutted in an other way 4nd seafood course i got: the same beef, cutted in a 3nd way 5nd course is the best one: i got ................ White rice. yes you readed well, i payed 214000 yens and i got WHITE RICE as a course of my menu. just a bowl of white rice with nothing else. I never ever felt so much insulted
i waited so many months and worked so many time to afford this place, to end up like this?
Also (and this is not a surprise) no compensation have been offered, hotel is just "sorry" that i didnt enjoyed my stay They also sent me a fake menu (saying i got cooked rice with beef etc...) and that i didnt got white rice as a course. They think i cant make difference between white rice and cooked rice.
Other things u have to know: - jacuzzi is turned off at 10pm - staff wont help you carrying luggages from car to hotel lobby

have stayed here twice. I live in Japan and have been to well over 100 Hot Spring Ryokan so I have some experience. Firstly this is NOT a Japanese Inn. It is decorated and furnished in the East Asia/Balinese style fashionable here a few years ago. Food is "fusion" asian/continental. It is good, but nothing exceptional. Japan has MANY first class restaurants, and this would rate high middle of the pack. They offer a limited but expensive wine list. Service is good and they only hire young pretty staff, which appeals to their target audience I guess.
Warning though, don't make the mistake of going to their bar. I did once and after two domestic whiskeys ended up with an $80 tab + service charge. Ridiculous. But I guess these prices are designed to keep the riff raff away.
The place is clean and fairly new, but VERY expensive even by Japanese standards. $500 per night per person is very high end in Hakone. The average for the area is closer to $150-200. The customers are an un-friendly lot and seem to be the rich old guys with their 20 something "friends", the Ferrari driving sons of the Japanese elite, bar hostesses on holiday with lots of money to blow, and the off couple celebrating a birthday or anniversary. I think the cheapest car I have seen in the parking lot has been a 6 series BMW. i think I am the only customer in their history to arrive by public bus (oh the shame).
I have gone there because my wife likes it and the place is definitely geared towards the women. Now I would normally rate it above average except I had a VERY surprisingly negative experience a few days ago. I was called and asked if I wanted a room as there had been a cancellation. This place runs a 6 month waiting list so the wife said sure. Two days later I had a bit of an accident which requires daily hospital treatment. We called the day before explained but were unceremoniously told that we must pay a $300 cancellation fee. Amazing. A return customer who has spent well over 2K with them, in the hospital, who took the room after someone else canceled and they still want money from me for canceling, even though due to a medical emergency.
I get the empty room makes no money argument, but they run a waiting list that is usually 8-10 parties deep. I know because I was on the list. So they hit me for $300 and then give the room to the next in line for full fee. Greedy, just greedy. I will not be back.....even if the wife does like the place.

We booked this hotel one year in advance. 3 months prior our departure date, naturally we call to confirm our reservation and find out it has been cancelled. The hotel call the wrong person who with no idea of the reservation, did not verify the name or who they are specking to, then cancelled our reservation. We tried to call and resolve this, however the poor communication skills of the hotel manager is really frustrating. With a fantastic website, but no email available.

I've been using this great ryokan every year and it's one of my favorites in Hakone. The reason I rate it this low this time is due to my latest experience with them.
This happened during my stay on November 25-26th weekend this year (2017).
In the middle of the night, I had to kill at least 20-25 bed bugs (see attached photo).
I informed the staff the next morning and they sincerely apologized like any Japanese hotel would, but it sure didn't feel too good.
I have asked them to investigate what kind of bug it was as I was worried about the family but they never responded until I reached out to then again.
Other than that it's a great ryokan with a great view and amazing onsen.

The bottom of the Ryokan Collection website, "Room Rates" section says the prices are per person per night. $1000 per night for 2 people sounds about right for a luxury ryokan - $500 would be extremely cheap quite frankly.

The menu is pretty much fixed but if you let them know in advance they can tailor for dietary requests - I do not eat fish/seafood (a preference rather than an allergy) and we let them know well in advance. As a result, I had different options (many of which were vegetarian) from the rest of our party which was a relief because there was a LOT of seafood.
