Bilastine
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic treatment of allergic rhino-conjunctivitis (seasonal & perennial) & urticaria. 20 mg tab For adult & adolescents ≥12 yr. 10 mg orodispersible tab (ODT) For childn 6-11 yr w/ body wt of at least 20 kg.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & adolescent ≥12 yr 20 mg tab once daily. Childn 6-11 yr w/ body wt of at least 20 kg 10 mg ODT once daily.
Overdosage
View Labixten overdosage for action to be taken in the event of an overdose.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals or fruit juice.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Avoid use w/ P-gp inhibitors (eg, ketoconazole, erythromycin, cyclosporine, ritonavir, diltiazem) in patients w/ moderate or severe renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. For childn 6-11 yr weighing at least 20 kg, use 10 mg ODT. Should not be used in childn <6 yr & under 20 kg.
Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
Adverse Reactions
Labixten Headache, somnolence, dizziness, fatigue. Labixten ODT Headache, allergic conjunctivitis, rhinitis, abdominal pain.
Drug Interactions
Increased AUC & Cmax w/ ketoconazole or erythromycin. Potential increased plasma conc w/ P-gp inhibitors eg, cyclosporine. Increased Cmax w/ diltiazem. Decreased bioavailability w/ food & grapefruit juice. Potential decreased plasma conc w/ OATP1A2 inhibitors eg, ritonavir or rifampicin.
