Had a contact number for driver and he assured me he was close. Drive was fine. Driver did not speak until the end when I had to pay tip and tolls. Overall, got us to our hotel safe. I booked their services for a round trip airport transfer from my hotel for a treat to kick off our vacation. The ride to the airport was by far, one of the worst experiences I have ever had for a car service. They farmed out the service to a taxi company who showed up in his personal Toyota Camry with his items in the back seat pockets. The car was dirty from the ceiling to the floor. The driver was nice enough but did have an odor that I could not overlook or get out of my clothing. This was not anything I would have presented for a car service that was booked as a sedan (1-3 with bags). I am grateful we only had 1 piece of luggage and we fit in the back seat! I am VERY disappointed and even more so that no one has gotten back to me after 2 calls to the company. Their only saving grace and what is giving them a 2 of 5 was the return trip was done well- the driver was professional and presentable in a clean car. Incomprehensibly horrible. First, I called on a Friday at 10:00 am to reserve a car for the following morning, at 7:00 am at JFK Airport in NYC. I tried to ask the operator questions, but she continuously talked over me and told me to "just read the confirmation email."
Second, I get into JFK and suddenly receive a "sorry we missed you" email from Carmel. It turns out there was no car because the nasty operator scheduled the pick up for the same day I called, but three hours earlier. Let that sink in. I called at 10 am; she scheduled the car for 7:00 am, which was already in the past.
Third, the new operator with whom I called from the pickup point, quickly scheduled another car for me (Car #58). I was in Terminal 5, Section 3. He said go to Section 4 of Terminal 5. I'm disabled, and so the airport folk that were assisting me with the airport wheelchair, helped me. I'm waiting but the car doesn't show up. I get a frantic and loud phone call from Car 58, screaming at me that I'm no where in site. I explain that I'm exactly where I was told to go. Car 58 screamed that he was at Terminal 5, Section 5, and that he had written proof I was wrong. Seriously - that's what he was saying. I hobbled over to Section 5, using my cane, as the assistants were gone. When I approached the man, he continued to rant and rave so outrageously that people stopped and gaped at him. I decided he was in no condition to be driving me as he was all rage, I demanded he let go of my suitcase. As I started to walk away, he began to lunge at me and threatened me. I held up my cane at him, shaking it towards him, telling him I will absolutely defend myself. An Uber driving watching the whole thing stepped in and assisted me.
I called Customer Service and still, after 10 days, not one person has gotten back to me.

I've used Carmel only a handful of times to/from different NY area airports; I've never used them for local trips. Being a local NY, what I can gather when I compare them with other services is that these drivers are really good at what they do. They are not mostly on an "extra job" for "extra cash" in their pocket. This IS their job. They don't rely on GPS, they know where they are going. Carmel also gives you an option to pay a one-price all tolls, tips and fare, and I like that option. You can also be billed separately. They are also hooked up with several airline mileage programs, so you can earn miles from what you've spent. The advantage is that you're not competing with a ton of people in the airport to get a relatively quick and painless pickup (and the car will have your name within a sign, so you know that is your ride); the disadvantage is that they are competitively priced but still more expensive than some other car services - but hence, less chaotic pickup. They are now offering a pool option, but I haven't tried that one.

I have used Carmel many times and even had the app, but I will never use them again. For the second year in a row they stranded my family at the Newark Airport late at night coming back from a trip with lots of ski equipment. But first they strung us along for 45 minutes, telling us a car was on the way, before finally admitting that not only did they not have a car for our prepaid reservation, but they had no idea when they might find one.
They tell you to wait by the curb and someone will come in a few minutes, whether they have a car available or not. It's even worse in the winter when they tell you that!
You can find many similar stories online. Their customer service is worthless. Pay a bit more for a taxi or Uber or use Dial 7...any competitor is better!

LaGuardia to Midtown Manhattan- Paid extra for deluxe car which was the most expensive option before a limo- the driver was in a Hyundai Sonata. It was a nice car but hardly what you would expect after paying extra for an upgrade. The worst part, was the driver and/or car smelled horrible. This is what I would expect after hailing a taxi cab, not through a private car service, although I’ve ridden in taxis that didn’t have this problem. I have reached out to the company twice and have not gotten a response. I will NEVER use this company again! We used Lyft and Uber the entire time we were in the city and had clean deluxe/luxury cars with professional drivers. Using Lyft or Uber to get back to the airport.

They kept a 90 year old woman waiting on a street corner for an hour due to their incompetence and lies. They took full payment in advance and promised a car with wheelchair access in 5 minutes. 30 minutes later another call was placed and they admitted they dont have a phone number for the driver or access to the driver's whereabouts as it is sub-contracted to Uber1 All they do is charge a premium for a car they have no controlled and take advantage of an elderly woman without the dexterity to arrange directly with Uber via an app.
If their deception and lack of control over the cars are not enough, they were rude and apologetic.

Carmel Car Service is completely unreliable for any trip the least bit "inconvenient" for the driver. Work schedule a trip outside of Manhattan, scheduling both a drop-off and a pickup from the same location, paid in advance. And 15 minutes before the pickup Carmel called to me they were "too busy" for the pickup and couldn't get a driver there for over an hour.

Terrible service. I've used them 3 times and had major issues 2 of them. The first time, the car was an HOUR LATE. Second time was fine. Third time, they called me 10 minutes before the car was supposed to arrive to say that the website quoted the wrong price and they need to bill $11 more or they would cancel the reservation. Terrible customer service and lost a customer over $11.

I booked a reservation in advance and received a confirmation for a Sunday morning pickup at 7:00 AM. At 7:10 AM, when the car had still not arrived, I called the service to be told that "if a car isn't there then it isn't coming." No warning and no help. Thankfully, Uber came to the rescue. If I had missed a flight I would have been even unhappier with this service. Will not be using again.

advise anyone looking into Carmel to take the negative reviews with a grain of salt. Driving around NYC and especially airports is a chaotic mess under the best of circumstances. I've used Carmel dozens, maybe a hundred or more times for longer trips and have found them to be to most reliable and professional car service that operates in the city. That includes Uber, Lyft, ect. Cars are clean, drivers are always professional if not outright friendly, and sometimes promptly picks up the phone and fixes things quickly if there's ever an issue. Only knock is they're usually not the cheapest option, but prices are nevertheless competitive and you can't have everything. Highly recommend.

I decided to give them a try because they were being promoted on Expedia. I booked a roundtrip ride from the Panama City Airport (in Panama) to our hotel. Everything looked okay as they sent me an email reminder the day before the first pick up. But then, the driver never showed and I waited for over an hour. I even called the local number they provided using a phone at the airport. Not only did the driver not show up, but the phone number wasn't a working number! I finally had to call a cab to get us to the hotel. I called that same number using the hotel phone just to double check the number and it indeed wasn't a working number.
The return trip was the same. I waited for 20 minutes, called that same number that was provided and the driver never showed. Since I didn't want to miss my flight, I had to call a cab to get us to the airport.
I sent email complaints about both incidents immediately after both cars didn't show up and no one got back to me. I also called Carmel and they told me that I had to contact Expedia for a refund since I bought the service through Expedia. When Expedia contacted Carmel on my behalf and they just told Expedia that I can't have a refund because both drivers were dispatched. So I decided to call Carmel myself. First of all, they were rude. All they could say was "no refund." They said that I was the one that was a "no-show" because the drivers had submitted GPS information that they were at the airport and hotel. This is the worst customer service ever! Stay away! I would give them a 0 star rating if I could.

I'm looking for a car service for Transportation from a Manhattan 46th street hotel to a Newark hotel near the airport and was debating between Carmel vs Uber. Your post stated that Carmel was higher than Uber. Was the rate MUCH higher than Uber or just a few dollars?

I found Carmel to be more expensive because they add the tolls and a tip after your quoted price. Uber prices vary significantly but I found them cheaper for the same route when I used them.

bonjour , j'ai réservé à travers tripadvisor un trajet, imprimé mon voucher, payé en carte bleue mais ils me demandent de donner au moins 12 h avant des renseignements supplémentaires via un lien. Il est noté qu'il est important de le faire. Hors ce lien me redirige vers une réservation et me demande de nouveau mes coordonnées bancaires. Une fois le voucher imprimé et payé faut-il vraiment reconfirmer ? Ou je peux partir tranquille ? Merci

j'ai tout de même appelé le numéro indiqué sur le voucher avant mon départ, je suis tombée sur une américaine qui m'a fait la confirmation de ma location par tel. (elle ne m'a rien demandé de plus, enfin je crois, elle parle très vite). J'appelerai dès que j'aurai mes bagages au second numéro. En espérant que tout soit ok.......

Le auto all’andata (una Toyota Avalon) e al ritorno (un minivan) erano spaziose quindi non dovreste aver problemi. Noi eravamo tre adulti con due valigie grandi e un trolley.

Did you get a refund, as we cancelled our trip 4 days advance and am still waiting for my refund ..... they put phone down, put you through to answering machine, keep saying they can't hear you ... but hear you fine until to you ask where the refund is. Load of con merchants.

I am very sorry to say that we can relate to your experience. We found it impossible to be able to get our questions answered and to have calls returned (we were continually promised that someone would get back to us). In the end we had no refund at all.
I have never written a negative review on Trip Advisor so I hope that you can appreciate that in writing a negative review about Carmel it is because it was reeeeeeeeeeeelllly unacceptable. They are rude, unreliable and unresponsive.
I am sorry for your experience, but sadly and not shocked. I hope that you end up getting your money refunded and have a different experience than we did.
