What travelers are saying
- SwonQonDoiBoston, MA189 contributionsWe had the opportunity to visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center during our trip to Alaska, and it was truly a remarkable experience.
We have always loved observing wildlife animals as it allows us to witness the beauty of nature firsthand, seeing these living creatures in their natural habitat. Each species possesses its own unique charm and beauty.
When we encounter animals, it made us wonder how nature has crafted such magnificent creatures. At the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, we had the chance to see a diverse range of animals that are native to the state of Alaska. The center conducts research and employs sustainable practices to care for these animals, while also providing an opportunity for visitors to appreciate their beauty and learn about coexisting with them, thus aiding in their conservation efforts to prevent extinction.
If you find yourself in Alaska, we highly recommend visiting this place. You'll undoubtedly develop a deep affection for these animals, just as we did.Written April 23, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. But what takes it over the top is its breadth - it has modern art, classic art, natural history, a children's exploratorium with a wide variety of activities, Alaskan culture and history, and a Smithsonian outpost dedicated to immersive displays about Natives. I would have guessed it was designed by someone with no attention span or ADD because every room is so rich and different - heck, every wall is rich and different - but I'm guessing it's because Anchorage can't support six museums so they focused their resources brilliantly and cleverly in this one place. It works.
The only way there is nothing in this museum for you is if you're dead, and you should be at rest somewhere else then.Written April 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I got to see a moose and baby right off trail.Written September 4, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Carol G14 contributionsFREE! The outside villages provide an excellent overview of how the various native Alaskan tribes lived. I enjoyed seeing the items inside each of the residences. There are several totem poles, sleds, and a very nice gift shop.Written January 29, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - EntheendTravelsBeaverton, OR185 contributionsI was visiting Alaska - Anchorage specifically for the first time, while I was at a conference for work. We had some free time, and I looked up some things to do. The tram came up as a recommended activity, and boy did it not disappoint!
The tram is located at the Alyeska resort, which is about a 50 minute drive from Anchorage.
We bought the $60 package, that gave you a ride on the tram, and $25 to spend on food up at the top of the mountain.
The tram takes you only 2,000 feet up (which is crazy, because it seems like it would be a lot higher!). There are walking trails that you can get there as well.
On the way up, you can start to see some breathtaking views of Alaska.
We were there in September, so it wasn't snowy, but surrounding us were mountain peaks that were topped with snow.
We also ate in the café, and the food was great!
Totally recommend as a day trip from Anchorage if you have the time!Written October 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It is not used offten during winter so snow is very soft so you will need snowshoes.Written March 25, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rebecca ORidgewood, NY1,810 contributionsYou can find gifts inside. They had a good variety despite being small. Also a few seating spots. They should add more seats. There are bathrooms. First stop for our cruise.Written February 22, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Cindy MetzScottsdale, United States146 contributionsThis was a short and step hike. Unfortunately we did not get to see views from the top as clouds came in about half way up. The locals race up and sometimes straight up but don’t feel shame in taking the switchbacks. This is a lung burner. It took us about 60 min to the top. Great views when not obstructed by clouds as we did see some of Cook Inlet on the way down. Beautiful flowers!Written August 8, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Laurie K12 contributionsFished for halibut in the Cook Inlet. Awesome experience and the view in the inlet is spectacular! We had a clear day and could view 4 active volcanos! Able to view many otter as well that were feeding in kelp beds.Written August 6, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Mary KLima, OH259 contributionsWe hiked the trail with three small children and strollers. It was a bit foggy when we started, but the sun shining through made for beautiful pictures. The children loved the glacier. About a two mile hike round trip, not a difficult hike.Written September 23, 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Rebecca ORidgewood, NY1,810 contributionsTruly a gem of a place! Definitely stop by. They have gifts and a giant jade. Also cool signs outside. You can get free postcards and they mail them for free for you. Also outside we bought a rain deer dog which my husband loved!Written February 21, 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - BrandonPittsburgh, PA904 contributionsWe got to watch the 2023 ceremonial start in downtown Anchorage. It's a great way to be able to experience the grandeur of the event.
