Nice little place, allegedly the first point on mainaln China to enjoy the sunrise. Have slight misgivings about this as there are more easterly parts of the mainland further north but due to the curvature of the earth, they may not enjoy the sunrise as early as Shitang.

There's a very impressive sculpture to celerate this point next to which is a museums of astronomy in only Mandarin. The town itself has some churches and a Buddhist monastery which we breifly visited; however, I was the first Englishan they have ever seen apparently so Shitang may yet be to find itself on the international tourist track.
