It is a great place to absorb the night vibe in safety. I travelled solo this time and didn’t hesitate to come here at night and enjoyed eating and wandering.Visited May 2023Traveled soloWritten May 5, 2023
- hcd-1921Zurich, Switzerland72 contributionsOverrated but nice to look atAccording to locals, the market had only just opend up again after COVID at the beginning of September. I imagined it to be like the ladies market (see Ladies Market review) just at night, but it was a lot smaller. With about 10 vendors it took us about 15' to walk through and since most of them offered the same products, there was no real use to stay longer. Maybe this is one of the areas that needs to recover some more.Visited September 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 1, 2023

We were staying in the near by Eaton Hotel so this was just around the corner from us. We visited one night after dinner to experience the night market. It was busiest where the food stalls were located and they had a range of seafood and meat options as well as desserts and of course, stinky tofu! The goods market wasn't that busy and I didn't feel there was as much of a range as say Ladies Market in Mong Kok or Stanley Market on Hong Kong island. It was quite small and repetitive. Still, a nice visit and we also enjoyed the nearby seafood restaurants where you can see all the fresh and live seafood displayed outside - classic Hong Kong. Enjoy!Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 24, 2024
- Steve RBolton, United Kingdom521 contributionsA very average hour of tourist trap gimmicksCentrally located tourist trap that sells a thousand types of gimmicks. Approximately a ten minute stroll through traders stalls for about 400mtrs, there are some street food stalls at the northern end. You'll see a lot of beggars sat on the street and you need to be aware of the pickpockets that will follow tourists looking for opportunity. Beyond the stalls there is nothing more to see, this took less than an hour.Visited January 2024Traveled soloWritten March 1, 2024

Maybe this market is better in summer but off season.... it’s just an overpriced market in January with sad, bored stall holders. It’s been publicised enough times now that you should barter by 50 % that the prices here are not close to lining up with others in Hong Kong. I saw no one cooking on the street, and only a few places in permanent shop front cooking fresh to order. The famed “spicy crab” restaurant is to be avoided, from where we sat watching, patrons were smoking inside, Touters were herding people into it with Unwelcome force. And we could see dishes being delivered from some unknown kitchen by clueless staff who had no idea where to take it. I’m sure it would be cold, and members of a pArty would never be eating together

The pandemic severely impacted the Temple Street Night Market. Sadly, only a few stalls opened at night, making the street be dull and boring. Some local restaurant overcharged the food, and the "workers" with the "guards" on both sides of the street turned it into somewhere quite dangerous. Not recommended at all!

We arrived at the market between 10.30pm and 11pm on a Monday night and there were not many people around. Maybe we choose a bad day? In the main food area of the market there was a smell of sewage so my plans to try out some street food changed (again maybe this is not a regular occurrence). The stalls sold a lot of obvious fakes and cheap souvenirs and if you did even slightly slow down to look at something that might be interesting the stall holder was on you like glue. WE walked through the market and quickly headed back to our hotel

Spent about an hour here as oart of an organised trip - so I guess it must be pretty well known. There was a lot of it in terms of length but it is a straight line more or less. There are lots of stalls but many sell the same kind of stuff. It was an experience that was a bit different and it had a good atmosphere. It felt very safe.

Temple Street is Hong Kong's Harlem in many ways. It is diverse, vibrant and perhaps a bit gritty. In the morning it is an open market with many stalls and cheap restaurants. At night, it is a paradise for the laymen: food stands, karaoke, mahjong playhouses and feng shui stands are aplenty. It may not be a love of first sight, but Temple Street is humble and welcoming.

Looking for bargains or nock off products than is temple street at night time the place to be. In the area Mong Kok not far from Nathan road is this easily to walk or via taxi ride.
At the market place you can buy lot of souvenirs or nock of products of hand bag designs or toys. Also what you see a lot are electronic stuff. If you like Chinese food than please eat at some local restaurants and enjoy the fresh prepared dishes such as fried octopus or vegetables with garlic. And don’t forget there is always room to negotiate.

Hi,
Do you know if the protests are effecting the markets?
38Russ
Melbourne, Australia107 contributions
The protests are all over HongKong although mainly over on Hongkong island as this is the main business area and this is the other side of the bay, your safe if you stay away from any protests you may come upon in your travels but for the markets temple street market is in the Jordan area while the ladies market is in Momg Kok they are still on nightly and I’m not aware of any protests anywhere near them.

I was there in September last year and recall walking around 11pm and everything was still hustling. I went twice during my 72 hour visit to Hong Kong (stayed nearby at Eaton) and first visit around 8pm was packed full of locals and visitors. 11pm still had a sizeable crowd, but much easier to navigate.

Are there fidget spinners for sale here? Is it open during the day? If not what is the next closest market that is?

It opens everyday at night, usually after 6:00 pm. Do bargain with the hawkers for everything you like. Apart from buying things, you can have palm reading and seeing people singing Chinese opera songs in the street!
Have fun!

The senior will love it provided they are not in a wheelchair. Take the 3 year old but hold on tightight , it can be quite crowded and you will be distracted easily.
