Be aware: there is always wind. Sometimes strong, stronger at other times. You wont need to do your hair in the morning for this stop in Snæfellsnes.
The stone arch is pretty amazing. Dont forget to stop at the several lookouts when strolling along the coast. There is even a narrow path across another natural stone arch. I wouldnt recommend it for Younger children as the wind gusts can be wild and then you fall 80m into the ocean. Bye bye. So watch out!

An incredible creation of nature. The views from here are absolutely amazing. There are several view points around here and you could walk between them along the well laid out foot paths. It's very windy up here and hence feels a lot more colder. So a proper jacket is a must when visiting this place. You could easily spend couple of hours here.

Beautiful sunny day. Every photo was a postcard. I can see how this would t be so great on a bad weather day. If you have a good day it’s beautiful and a nice walk! The only thing we couldn’t find was the stone/land bridge you can walk on-does that even exist? Even though we didn’t find it this was still a nice path.

It is defenetly worth your while to stop at Arnarstapi on Snæfellsnes. Among many things to do there is to look at Gatklettur which is a natural rock formation in the ocean. There is just something magical to see the waves smash at the rocks and through the holes, we could have watched it for hours! Many birds in the surrounding cliffs as well.

This was one of the stops on our day tour. Don’t get me wrong it’s very beautiful with lovely views of the coast, but of all the incredible things we saw on the island this was probably had the least wow factor. If it was anywhere else though it would have been amazing. I really enjoyed seeing the arch and having a walk along the coast. Pretty chilly in this spot but the views are worth wrapping up for. Looked particularly nice in the snow.

Arch Rock is astoundingly beautiful!! It has a circular arch, which has been caused by the waves eroding the rocks, causing gorgeous swirl patterns. You can see beautiful basalt caves on the opposite side of Gatklettur. A short walk away is the statue of Bardur Snaefellsás, the settler of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. It is located near the small fishing village of Arnarstapi. You can see a lot of cliff dwelling birds in this area. The views of the mountains are spectacular here!!! This is truly a unique area. Your trip will not be complete without visiting the Gatklettur area.

It is a spectacular rock formation, highlighted by a natural rock arch. Free parking with an easy access from main highway. When we were there in February, it was really windy!

The arch Gatklettur and the sea cliff hike from Arnarstapi to Hellnar are related, but actually different. From the Arnarstapi hotel restaurant, the arch is down plastic grated flat paths to the left.. the hiking trail via the cliffs to Hellnar is over a narrow dirt trail to the right.

The arch is very easily accessible to the left on the plastic paths.. we saw these more and more this trip.. they make walking to see things much easier for anyone who has any mobility issues.. they are wide and flat.. no special shoes required. The arch is beautiful, as are all the sea cliffs in the area. It can be very windy, so as always, if it is, stay away from the cliff edges.

The path from Arnarstapi to Hellnar is to the right of the restaurant.. it starts out flat and easy, but quickly heads into the lava, and becomes nothing more than a narrow foot path up and down and over. Good hiking boots are ideal. Walk all the way to Hellnar and out on the concrete wall to get a wonderful view back of the dramatic cliffs. The walk is not difficult, other than the narrow path and all the rocks you have to step on and around.

I highly recommend seeing both the arch and doing the hike if you are in the area and have a couple hours to spare.

Another must stop on the Snaefellsness peninsula drive is Arnastapi. It's a small fishing village, but just 5 min drive from it is a stunning cliffside scenery.
From the parking lot there're several paths you can explore. The best and most visited is the Gatklettur, leading to amazing sea cliff bridge with a whole within it.

Small fishing village of Arnarstapi was one of the stops on our wonderful Nice Travel small group tour “Small-Group Snaefellsnes National Park Day Trip from Reykjavik”. It is famous for its beautiful sea arches, where you can feel and admire a real drama of Icelandic rocks and their unimaginable shapes: a deep cave, a full circle arch, curvy cliffs, the stone bridge… The paths are very well maintained and easy to walk on.
