Child-friendly ryokan/hotel

Hi!

I’m planning a stay at either Beppu or Yufuin in December and am looking for a child-friendly accommodation for my 3YO and 1YO. It will be great if there is an onsen or indoor amusement, or onsen with lower temperature.

Any recommendations?

It might be better to send inquires to the tourist information center by e-mails or fax.

The first I think of is Suginoi in Beppu. In general, onsens in Furuyu, rural town in Saga City, 30 - 40 mins drive from Fukuoka, have relatively lower temperature water. It may also depend on how you travel (drive or public transportation) and budget. Kyushu travel is very drive friendly. Prefecture border crossing travel won't be difficult in central Kyushu.

Appreciate the replies. We’re planning to drive, so so long it’s around Yufuin or Beppu, it should be fine.

I’ve checked out Suginoi and it seems like the pool is closed during winter. We’re planning to stay end Nov so not sure if it’ll still be open by then.

What do you mean by child friendly? I think that most places would be very accepting to children, such as meals, bedding, etc.

As far as I can recall, the onsen temperatures in Yufuin or Beppu is not low. I do not recommend letting 1YO babies to soak in such. Most onsen hotels/ryokans have in-room bathrooms where water temperatures can be adjusted.

ps. have stayed in either at least 3 times each.

Sugino's Aqua Garden (outdoor) and Aqua Beat (indoor) are both open throughout year, normally. The Aqua Garden closes from Sep 26 to Dec 16, this year. for renovation and maintenance.
