Neighborhoods
When Japan emerged from centuries of isolation in the mid-19th century, Yokohama was a tiny seaside village, home to only 100 people or so. But as the tide of internationalization rose, a port was established and Yokohama began to grow as a gateway to Japan. Yokohama is now a leading international trading port, the second largest city in Japan after Tokyo. Situated just a short distance along the coast from the Japanese capital, and within easy reach of Haneda Airport, Yokohama is now a magnet for tourists not just from Japan but from every corner of the world; it's a place everyone wants to visit. Minato Mirai 21 is a modern urban development that was created, and continues to evolve, on 186ha of land. A shipbuilding facility that used to divide Yokohama's two main urban centers on Tokyo Bay was relocated, and additional land was reclaimed from the sea. In 1989 an exposition was held to mark the 100th anniversary of Yokohama's city status and the 130th anniversary of the opening of Yokohama Port. Following that event development gathered momentum, and now the area boasts office blocks, commercial facilities, hotels, amusement parks and convention facilities, as well as such cultural amenities as art museums and concert halls. This, the new face of Yokohama, offers an entire spectrum of urban functions and attracts more than 70 million visitors every year. Minato Mirai 21 is full of great experiences. The liberating expanse of Tokyo Bay and the dynamic appeal of the contemporary architecture contribute to the area's strikingly unusual beauty, which you can enjoy from the elegant surroundings of several first-class hotels. For the shopper, more than 600 stores offer an astonishingly broad selection of goods ranging from top fashion brands to animation character merchandise. Apart from excellent Japanese cuisine, delicious food from around the world is available at more than 200 restaurants. Theme parks offer exciting rides, parks a place to sit and enjoy the seascape. Packed with pleasure, Minato Mirai 21 is a fun place to visit with family and friends at any time of year, on any occasion, and for so many different reasons. If you move on to the area beyond Minato Mirai 21, you'll find intriguing glimpses of a fascinating history in the Kannai district, which developed quickly in the second half of the 19th century after the Port of Yokohama opened, and beyond Kannai you'll arrive at Japan's largest Chinatown. Yokohama offers points of interest that no other city can match. And just a day trip away are some of the best hot spring baths in Japan at Hakone, as well as the globally renowned beauty of Mt. Fuji. So after a day of fun in Minato Mirai 21, you can spend the night at one of the area's great hotels and then the next day you can be soaking in an onsen or admiring a view of Mt. Fuji. That is the special appeal of a relaxing holiday based in Japan's new leading tourism and leisure destination: Minato Mirai 21.

Even on a cloudy and windy day, this is a beautiful and interesting place. If you can get a guided tour from one of the gardeners, do so. You'll learn a lot about the garden as it is today and its history. We had only a couple of hours but I could see spending much of a day here.

A quick train ride from our hotel. Was worth the trip. This place had a lot of personality. Being from the USA, it was fun visiting a "Chinatown" in a different country.

It has a wide enough space to do picnic without having people too close to each other, and the view is nice as well.

If you're in Tokyo it's definitely worth the effort to get here. Take the train to Eda (Kanagawa) and then the 301 bus to Eda minami. It's a 5-10 minute walk to Capybara Land from there. Your admission fee includes a bit of food for feeding the capys. There's an option to buy their favourite sugar cane, but they're only allowed so much per day, so unless you arrive close to opening time you'll not get to feed them sugarcane. The temperature indoors is quite warm and humid. Check ahead for opening times; they may close for a while in the spring when some new animals arrive.

We had a chance to visit the Red Brick Warehouse during our recent trip to Yokohama. This is a very pleasant area near the waterfront. There were many small shops and restaurants both in the warehouse and in the surrounding area. We visited on a weekend and the area was full of positive energy - happy folks, families, and people walking their pets.

There were also many, many food trucks offering lots of wonderful food. We weren't sure if this was a special occasion or if they are present every weekend.

A nice place to visit if you are in the Yokohama area.

I left Queensland for the zoo around 1:00 pm. But between subways, trains, lunch and a bus I didn't arrive until 3:30 pm

And it closes at 4:30 pm !!! Why didn't I research this ?

Anyway, I power walked for 60 minutes between animals.
    The grounds were beautiful.

Sea paradise is a nice break form all the hustle in the big cities. Its farily easy to get here but some walking is necessary if arriving by monorail. The park itself is free of charge so you only pay if wanting to enter any attraction. I went fot the 4 aquarium ticket which give access to the main aquariam + 3 other smaller places. The main aquarium is medium sized witha few nice tanks and the main atracctions are the dolhpin, ice bear and penguins. They also do live shows that are worth seeing if you have ticket for the aquarium. Note you can go in and out as you wish as long as you keep your ticket. The top of the aquarium have som enclosures with diffrent small animals and bird. Its actually possible to enter one of the enclosures and be amongst the flamingos, ducks and capybara as long as you do not fdeed or touch the animals. I actually had a flamingo who decided to go between my legs so they are used to humans.
The other aquriums was very small where one is just a place where you can feed fish. If you pay extra you can also fish yourself.
There are also a few rides but most are for children.
The area also got some good restauarants and one of them allows you to grill the fish you caught or just simply buy stuff and have bbq.
This isnt a big park like USJ or Tokyo Disney but still worth the visit if you got time.

Landmark tower is Yokohama, you can see it from almost anywhere. It has a really big shopping center inside, and one of the best customer services I had ever seen from the shopping staff: One staff lady there did her best to help me find exotic fish slippers until we found out that the store was closed and it only sells in summer in Japan anyway. They got an observatory as well if you want to pay for it.
