As someone who enjoys clothing markets like JJ Market in Bangkok, or Dongdaemun and Kwangjang Markets in Seoul, I was VERY disappointed by Qipu. First, there is a lack of variety. Most clothes is geared towards teens and young adults (which suits me) but it seemed every shop had the same or extremely similar stretchy jeans, polyester sweaters, denim jackets, fur trimmed coats. Also, I found many hawkers not even willing to bargain with me. If I countered with a price, they simply took the item out of my hand and turned away. The higher the floors I went, the fewer and fewer shops I saw. Quality didn't seem any different from the lower floors. I walked out Qipu with one sweater, which I paid 180 RMB. I felt I did not get a good deal, but it was still a better price than similar items back home and perhaps about the same quality. There is the Korea Fashion Market across the street. It is much cleaner and newer compared to Qipu, and the clothes has more variety (but overly edgy and still geared mainly towards young women.) The beauty treatment parlor booths next to the tattoo booths was an interesting part of the Korea Fashion Market, and there are better restaurants as well. Still, hawkers refused to bargain with me, no haggling even for a bunch of socks. Unless you know Chinese, I would skip this place. I got better deal for some trousers (39 RMB) at a fixed price clothing stall in one of the train stations, which despite being one stall had more style variety than all the stalls of Qipu combined.

Interesting. Had no idea what to expect with our visit, but our day went well. There are bargains to be had, just look but be prepared to walk away as well. Fitting rooms are non existent so be prepared to buy off rack or try on over clothes. Overwhelming in the sheer volume of product. The entire area was busy with people coming & going. Would agree with a previous review, clothing lines tend to be younger; however, it depends on what building and what floor you are in and on. The pedestrian walk way was nice to have no scooters or bikes allowed. Expect to go back again sometime. No complaints. No issues. Easily reached via Metro. Great place for people watching. Food eateries located in immediate area.

This is the cheapest clothing market ever in Shanghai as the price is very very low compare to the mall shopping center with the same product, it's amazing.
You have to visit, but be careful as many pickpockets roam here

I have been to Shanghai and bought so many Souvenirs from markets but when I visited Qipu,I was amazed I lost my temper as I have paid a good amount of money for the products which were very cheap in Qipu lu. Such a big market with three buildings and the outside street too.You will get all types of product ya but u cannot expect the brand. It will be good if you buy in sale and find out the good one good discounts they give u just need to bargain. One day is not enough in this market. You can also look around the streets around Qipulu accessories are sold in a very cheap rate.I believe its a good shopping point in Shanghai. If you are in Shanghai then you should definitely visit this place and while shopping u can get local chinese food also you must taste it.

For going Qipulu, You should go by line 10 to Tiantong station. And as soon as you exit you find the series of shops all together and that is Qipulu.

One more thing as it spells as Qipulu but it is pronounced as Cheplu in chinese. :-)
Hope my information will help you.

Ok, people. If you speak Chinese and have been around China for awhile, this is the place for you to get some good deals. But...you have to stick to your guns. Don't buy the first thing you see...play hard to get, haggle. Start at 30% of the asking price. They may laugh at you, but see where it goes. If your Chinese is good and you sound legit, you can get things for real bargains.

If you are tired of haggling, don't even think about going here. There are some good bargains to be found if you have the will to fight....and laugh!

Take the subway line 12, and get off at Tiantong Road stop. The market literally starts at the exit from the subway. You will see the market sign as you come up the escalator from the subway platform, you can't miss it. This is the best way to get here as taxis are difficult and depending on where you are coming from within Shanghai, it will probably only cost you 4-6rmb.
The market is huge! This is where Chinese shoppers come when looking for a bargain. You have to be prepared to wade through to get what you want, bigger foreign sizes will be harder to find, but your patience will be rewarded. You also have to be prepared to bargain hard for the things you really want. Don't be scared to walk away, that way you will know if you are goin too low.
As with all Chinese markets, go early. That's when the shopkeepers want to make their first sale to get the day started right, so they are more willing to mKe a deal.
If it's fakes you want, you have to ask. With big crackdowns lately, you won't necessarily see them Displayed.
Definitely worth a trip, but it's going to be at least a few hours, maybe all day!

The first days in Shanghai we visit Ifc Mall and Super Brand Mall, and i can tell you that it is a big price diference. Here if you know how to search and you havr time, you can do excelent shopping. They have great man pants slim fit, wich you canot find in Europe, they have excelent Chinese style clothes, good quality, better to buy this and not the fake ones. My advice is dont buy on the first shop that you enter and dont pay the first price they ask you!

This is one of my favourite markets in Shanghai. The place and massive and easy to get lost it in, it spans across a series of large buildings. So you leave one building and just walk into the next and the market continues.

You can find everything in this market: clothing, bags, shoes, etc. Everything is unbelievably cheap. Less foreigners come here, its mostly locals, so it actually tends to be easier to bargain. Some shops will even have prices on certain things. This is definitely the easiest market to bargain in, (next would be the Museum of Science market and the most difficult is the Nanjing market).

The only downside is that you really got to dig to find what you want. The place is so big and has different sections, that you just got to hope you come across the section with the thing you're looking for. There's parts that sell mostly shoes, I've seen an area of just stores selling just denim shorts before. You just got to take the time to wander through.

If you have the time then this is a great market, and has clothes for inanely cheap prices. I came here once after returning a dress I got from H&M, and so I got 200rmb back. I took that money to Qipu and ended up buying 11 articles of clothing with the money is cost for one thing in a Western store.

Getting there is not tough if you are staying in puxi. Am staying at Langham hotel and to get to the place by cab only cost us 20rmb. The driver drop us at a roadside and then you have to find your way in. There are many buildings there. You just have to explore and find the right building. I read and was told that this place is a wholesale market. And true enough. I was lost as there are really too many buildings. I follow my intuition and walked into one the bingo. Here we go. However at this time of the year they are all selling winter outfits. Which serves no purpose for me but my husband needed one executive winter jacket as he did not bring his over. So we went around. Got a very very good bargain. The first shop I went. The jacket is thick and only cost 150rmb. Looks cool too. Their sweaters for summer only cost 50rmb. For me I bought a pair of warm leggings which cost me 40rmb. The upper level are for men and the lower ones are for ladies. Worth going to have a look. I did not encounter anyone following us though. Hope this helps.

This place is not for the faint hearted. Take your time, know your prices, keep your poker face and be prepared to walk away. The vendors won't bother haggling super hard, prices are already low. That being said, you don't have to pay their first names price. Enjoy!

I spent half a day walking through the various malls that are located on Qipu Road "Wholesale Market" district. The prices are far from being wholesale prices!
As a matter of a fact, most of the items they sell are not only outdated fashion, but also more expensive than similar products found at any outlet mall in the US or Canada.
Even after hard negotiations over prices, it is still not worth it.
If you happen to travel to Beijing, you will find much better products and much better prices at the Silk Alley Market.
