- flyingflynnieDublin, Ireland14 contributionsAmazing! The cafe they have for the elephants is so beautiful and passionate. The elephants roam freely, and there is no riding or any abuse. The elephants health and wellbeing is put first. The whole program was incredible from the hotel pickup, to the intro, feeding the elephants their breakfast, learning more about how their rescued and the facilities, and then giving them a mud bath and shower.
I really couldn’t recommend this place enough! Please visit this sanctuary if you wish to be close to elephants. With how green the water looked from a far I thought that it would be turquoise water when we got there. It wasnt. There are no facilities(showers or bathrooms) that we could see. We set up at the far left if looking at the water where the sun chairs are at to rent. 4 chairs and 2 umbrellas was 400 baht. The sand was extremely hot, so bring some water shoes. The water was like bathtub temps. I could see where that would seem nice, but we were hoping for a cooler dip based off the heat outside. We were taken on a very interesting 45 minute tour, and learnt all about the wonderful work this charity does for Street cats and dogs in Phuket. We were able to spend as much time as we wanted to with the puppies and cats. As my wife and I are disabled we weren’t able to take any of the dogs out for walks, but we were pleased to be able to make a donation. The characteristic of the beach is that the sand is very fine, like ground pepper, and does not hurt your feet when you walk on it.
