It was a good experience but the attendants were giving us the runaround at the ticket office when we got there. They said they wanted our passports and if we didn't have them we had to go register at a machine near the entrance. We showed them the passports and they made us go "register" at the machine. While we registered they told our friends that they were not talking foreigners and when we went up to the counter they said we could go but wouldn't tell us which health code they wanted to see. A green arrow and QR code worked for health codes and they eventually agreed to sell us tickets and let us go up.
They have a cool display near the elevator that has scale model and interactive displays for tall buildings around the world. They have many English descriptions to read as well to understand the construction and engineering technology behind this megatall building.
The elevator is one of the world's fastest and takes you up to the 118th floor observation deck in 55 seconds! One there you can check out the surrounding panoramic views and look down on the 11th tallest Shanghai Finance Tower and 33rd tallest Jin Mao! The 119th floor has a cafe and the 118th floor has gift shops. There is a large display on the 118th floor but I think it was all in Chinese when I went and appeared to be related to the history of Shanghai's construction.
If you buy the exhibition package for 245 RMB you get to go to to the 125/126 floors to see the dampening system. It was worth the extra money to see but I would say this attraction is a one and done kind of deal.

I love a good view so I wasn't going to turn down the chance to experience the world's highest observatory deck! On the advice of friends I booked both the 118th observation floor and the 126th floor to see the damper room.
The views were great - I went in the morning on a clear day, and it wasn't too busy when I arrived. The damper room was very cool - I'm not sure the music/light show needs to be as long as it is, but the sculpture was beautiful.
Everything I found online said take exit 6 from Lujiazu station, but I found that brought me out in a weird place and you can get to/from the metro underground. Sadly I failed to register the exit number, but take a moment to read the maps and work it out on arrival. Tickets are bought at ground level, the entrance to the tower is in the basement. Bring your passport!

It's a tourist site, but a bit like Fisherman's Wharf or Independence Hall, you have to check it off your list. At the time of writing, it's the second tallest building in the world so it felt like it was not to be missed. It's easy to get here on the metro and to walk around the downtown area, although it is absolutely devoid of any character (just hotels, office buildings, and anodyne shopping malls). The tower exhibit itself is well designed with lots of information and visuals of other tall and ultratall towers in the world. The observation decks are pretty impressive and the views were good, even on a smoggy winter day. The Pearl Tower looks so tall from the ground, but at the top of the Shanghai Tower, it's way down there! They have some great postcards available in the store, including stamps, and a mailbox (surprisingly rare and hard to find on the streets in Shanghai).

Only go up on a clear day. Second tallest tower in the world, and China is very proud of it. A brilliant exhibition of international tall buildings before you go up that you cannot revisit later, but it does make that clear. Always busy, but no need to book.

Pleased we visited this. Worth taking your ID with you as you need it to buy a ticket. There is an alternative if you forget but was a queue for that. Great views but obviously depends how lucky you get with the weather. The lifts are ridiculously fast and you don't even know you are moving.

Worth doing if you are staying close, but in our case we spent more time queuing than observing. It was a 30 min queue to get in, partly alleviated by the ground floor exhibits. The upward lift is fun due to its speed. The observation deck has two levels but the upper is roped off in part for the cafe and when I visited there was a massive queue to go down which obstructed a lot of the view. This is incredible, but there is so much other light it’s not easy to get decent pictures. It’s worth noting it’s not scary for those who don’t like heights. There are so many people it feels safe. Like many other attractions you need a passport, driving licence or other ID. Unusually they accept cash and credit cards, somewhat reluctantly.

Fantastic views of Shanghai city, gives a great perspective of the size and spread. The view is impacted by the air conditions, but even if not a perfect viewing day, you still get a great view of how Shanghai developed. For those a bit squeamish of heights, the elevator trip up and back was the most relaxed I’ve been in a tall building. No jerky motion, no feeling of acceleration- physically it felt like we only went up two or three floors, and we were already there at the top, and the trip down just as passive. A great view and with 369 degrees, you can just spend time looking around.

Wonderful views of Shanghai. The best time to enjoy it is just before the sunset. It is the second tallest building in the world behind Burj Khalifa in Dubai, but for me it is much more impressive the views from the top of Shanghai tower, because the top floor area is much bigger and you are able to enjoy a 360 º view (the Bund, Oriental Pearl tower, Pudong area, ...).You can enjoy different activities in the top floor, as 3D simulators. Wonderful experience!!

A must-visit place for anyone going to Shanghai. There is an entrance fee but it is not expensive. I visited at night and it was very worth it, I think it will be more beautiful than during the day. It has a small exposure to the entrance on the tallest buildings in the world, current and future. In the end, a very cute souvenir shop, accessible, to bring a souvenir.

So it is Covid19 but with our masks on we visited the Shanghai Tower. It was a foggy day but overall it was a good experience. Very nice to experience the second tallest building in the world. The elevator ride was fast and my son enjoyed the speed of it. There is a lounge for coffee (119)and also a VR place on the 118 floor. We just spend about an hour there and another 30 mins in the gift shop lol.

I plan to go to Shanghai Tower via ferry from Old Shanghai Street. I will be arriving @ Dongchang Road Ferry and walk to the tower.
Can someone advise me how far it is to walk? It looks near from the Goggle map but the navigation tool show a long walk of 1.3 km before u-turning back towards Shanghai Tower.
I wonder why? Are the roads highways that do not allow walking?

I walk at a pretty good pace so for me it seemed like a short walk. You can cover quite a bit of the distance on an elevated walking platform with no exposure to vehicle traffic. It should be about 10 to 15 minutes.

About £20 so $30 each.
You can take the ferry from The Bund and walk. Ferry is 2 yuan each way.
Or you can take the tourist tunnel which is about 40 yuan. Different but not that exciting.

We paid RMB256 per pax which includes the ticket to Shanghai Guanfu Musuem on the 37th Floor. Personally, the Guanfu Musuem is more interesting than the Shanghai Tower.
