Hi,
My friends and I will be travelling this July by JR rail: Otaru==>Furano & Biei==> Abashiri
We planned for 3 nights stay but can't decide where to stay as from the map, Biei looks more centralised location to visit farms and other attractions but more people stay at Furano.
1) Is there reasons why Furano is chosen over Biei?
2) Is there local tour from Biei to Furano for farm visit?

291 helpful votes Furano is a bigger town with more facilities which could be why more people choose it. The local Furano bus company runs some pretty good tours. I did the Panorama course which was excellent, and some English commentary plus an English guide booklet were provided.

99 helpful votes 1. There are more hotels/ryokans around the Furano station, which is also served by highway bus from Sapporo direct in 2 hours. In comparison, there are more pensions in Biei though widely spread out in the undulating plains. I recommend staying in those with cars.
2. refer to the official Biei website for various bus tours from Biei, Furano, Asahikawa.
Both Panorama and Enjoy course cover most of the places we wanted to go. Are entrance fees included in the bus tour package?
