About
Take a speed boat from Sanur to one of Bali’s most enchanting locations. This spectacular island is outlined by towering limestone cliffs and surrounded by azure waters. The best way to experience Nusa Penida is via a day tour, which includes hotel transfers, boat tickets, and entry fees to the island. This grants you access to top sights such as the Insta-famous Kelingking Beach, Paluang Cliff, and Crystal Bay—a popular spot for snorkeling and catching the sunset. If you have more time on your hands, rent a scooter and discover Teletubbies Hill and the Nusa Penida Treehouse. Photo ops are aplenty, so get your cameras ready. – Tripadvisor

    Nice for a Day Trip
A great place for a day trip. The island is a bit on the silent side. The roads are bumpy and very narrow. If you are a nature lover, you can consider spending a night here. Restaurants and shops are a bit limited. Regarding sightseeing, you will love all the spots. Great points for Instagram pictures.

Nice views but not ideal for families or people who care about safety
It’s a small island that has beautiful views. The roads are terrible. You need a motorcycle to get around (drive at your own risk bc the roads are awful). You can also hire a driver which is what we did bc we were traveling with our children (ages 7 and 9). The speedboat to get to the island is choppy and disorganized. The island itself is dirty (trash everywhere) but has a few beautiful beaches- incredible color of water. If you’re into taking pictures, you may enjoy the views. Many beaches are not safe to swim in but are nice to overlook from the top (if that’s your thing). Example kling kling beach has many steep stairs and rough current. It was nice to see but couldn’t really venture down with kids. We took a snorkeling tour to see manta rays and turtles. We did get to see these in the water but the water was very very very rough and choppy. The tour itself felt very unsafe especially for young children. It may be good for adventurous couples who don’t mind rough waters. Overall, the water color is gorgeous but I’m not sure I would recommend the hassle of getting here and staying here. I would stay away if you’re traveling with kids or are the cautious type.

Unforgettable Experience with Bali Sun Tours to Nusa Penida
I just had the pleasure of embarking on a trip to Nusa Penida with Bali Sun Tours, and to put it simply, it was fantastic. From the moment we departed, the team ensured we had everything we needed for an enjoyable journey. The trip was organized impeccably, and the crew's knowledge about the locations we visited was truly impressive. Snorkeling around the island was a particular highlight. The underwater scenes were a marvel to behold with vibrant coral reefs teeming with aquatic life. The equipment provided was top-notch and the guides ensured that even the least experienced among us felt safe and comfortable. The sightseeing tour was equally delightful. We had the chance to witness breathtaking landscapes and learn about the unique culture and history of Nusa Penida. The tour was paced perfectly, allowing us to soak in the stunning vistas without feeling rushed. In addition, the staff was courteous and friendly, going above and beyond to ensure our satisfaction. From a delicious lunch to a comfortable transport, every detail was taken care of. I can't recommend Bali Sun Tours enough for anyone planning a visit to Nusa Penida. Whether it's for snorkeling, sightseeing, or simply exploring this beautiful island, you'll be in excellent hands with Bali Sun Tours. The memories I've made on this trip are ones I'll cherish forever. Truly, a 5-star experience!

    What a Beauty !
This is a gem. U have to go when u visit Bali. There is a steep walk from the parking lot. Better to go with an experienced guide ..they know the best points for taking pictures. They will climb on trees too ! U can view this from the cliff . To go to the beach down..u have to climb down for 45 mins and then your way up too ! There is a tiny restaurant on the cliff...u may just buy a coffee and enjoy the view !

    Nusa Penida is magical!
I fell in love with this island while there last week. The landscape is breathtaking and riding the roads on a scooter being wowed by the gorgeousness of the island is something else. We stayed two nights there and I'm so glad I did this rather than a day trip, I knew from what I'd seen and read that I would love it, so decided to stay two nights. I wish I stayed more, when I go back to Bali I will definitely be staying longer on Nusa Penida. It's a magical island.

    Life changing
Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan are absolutely stunning. I have never been anywhere like this. That said I didn't actually set foot on Nusa Penida but snorkeled all around it as part of a tour. Nusa Lembongnan is a lovely and quiet island. The water is crystal clear and incredibly abundant with sea life, where we saw manta rays, amazing kinds of fish and coral as I've never seen below. Swimming on top of a manta as it glided below me was something I'll always remember. Water was a bit rough. Do not believe the other reviews here and be cautious which tour group you choose. You need to plan in advance and you need to pay for quality and to be away from the party goers and drunken hordes.

    Travel by boat
A lot of waiting around goes on, all car related. Slow traffic between spots, and took us hours from morning accom pickup, to finally boarding our boat from Lembongan to penida island. Do whatever you can to hire a boat and driver, to go around to all the best attractions on the island. You’ll make the most of every minute travelling by water. Trust me

    So close to Nature!!
A real gem of Indonesia, this island is huge and cannot be covered in a single day. The spots are little tough to reach, but once you get there, the beauty of nature keeps you spellbound! A must visit !

A very unexpected but fun day snorkelling on the island
The villa where I was staying organised a guide to meet me on the island so I could swim with the manta rays. I got the fast boat across from Sunar and arrived around 9.00am in the morning. The port was very busy with drivers and name cards picking up their guests. I looked for my guide but after half an hour I realised he wasn't there to meet me. Okay, I thought I'm on my own and need to sort my own snorkelling out. Nusa Penida is not like Bali, smaller and more basic with lots of huts along the front offering tours. I went along them all and no one had availability for a me on any of the tours. About to give up I tried another hut and a lovely man helped me find a boat and got me last minute onto a three stop snorkelling trip for £15.00, he was an absolute star. We visited three reefs, they first was absolutely amazing and you got carried along by the current over the reef. The second two stops where good to but no where near as spectacular as the first, breath-taking. We then stopped an another part of the island having speed along on the speed boat taking in the sights along the way and the lovely man who had got me on the boat was there to meet me. He had arranged for a taxi to take me back to the harbour which turned out to be a moped!!! I hopped on the back and was whisked along the road back to the harbour at break neck speed, a little scary but very exciting. Before I got the fast boat back to Sunar I stopped for beer and a pizza a Murat Beach Club to enjoy the views then I headed back to Bali. I didn't see much of the island as I went to snorkel, unfortunately I didn't see any manta rays but I had a fabulous exciting and totally unexpected brilliant day. Note when you are waiting for your boat at the harbour there is no shade and if your boat is late the heat is very intense so make sure you have water.

Private solo mixed tour of Nusa Penida
Arrangement was made by my Bali driver - Pak Bagus who is Booking.com partner in Bali. A amazing n very reliable driver for my trip to Nusa Penida. Left hotel at 7.15 and ferry was at 8.30 am. return boat was 4pm. A driver met me after a 40 minutes boat ride from Sanur Port to Nusa Penida I chose the mixed trip covering Diamond Beach and next to the other side is Atul Beach, followed by Thousand Island Lookout , Kelingking and Palnang Cliff. It was very rush and not much time to spend going down to the beach which were all very clear and crystal clear water. You need to stay at least 2 nights to explore the beautiful beaches on Nusa Penida but a worthwhile trip though unable to see Broken beach or Angel Billabong for example. Do note SIM card are sold at airport or all over Bali, so one can easily stay connected.

Over hyped island thanks to Instagram. The island does indeed have some beautiful spots and there are some fun activities to do like snorkelling and swimming with manta rays. However, I do not recommend staying on the island itself. I was sold all kinds of dreams about amazing beaches and a tropical paradise and escape from the hustle and bustle of some of the other cities in Bali but found myself wanting to return to Bali ASAP. I initially booked a hotel for 3 nights but stayed only 2 and left early in the morning as quickly as possible.

The island has got no accessible beaches except for Crystal Bay and Kelingking Beach and the latter one can hardly be said to be accessible given how difficult the climb down (and climb up!) can be if you’re not fit. Nor is the climb down really safe given how steep it is and the poor infrastructure designed to climb down/up. These are literally the only two decent beaches on the island that can be accessed, everything else is impossible to access and you can’t simply just pack up your things in the morning and pop down to the beach for a swim or to sunbathe.

Getting around the island is impossible as well. You have two options: use a scooter OR a taxi driver but taxis here are insanely expensive. A 10 minute (4km) car ride from a restaurant to our hotel cost us 150k which is crazy when you consider GoJek from Canggu to Sanur the day before cost us less than that and that was 55mins and 20km! You can rent out a scooter here but even experienced riders will have a difficult time given how poor the roads and other associated infrastructure is. You can book a driver for the day but this will set you back some 600-800k and don’t be surprised when after all this your driver asks you to pay for their lunch meal as well.

As for the island itself, beyond the Instagram sites, there is nothing else. The forests and surrounding area are all littered with trash. The only decent restaurant appears to be Penida Colada in the North which gets insanely busy and requires people to queue for space. Beyond that, there is literally nothing else. It’s incredibly underdeveloped.

The locals appear to be pouring a lot of money into building hotel accommodation for tourists and you can see construction work everywhere. However, I think they should instead be focusing on investing in better roads and other infrastructure because right now, staying here a couple days is not very enjoyable.

Don’t be fooled by the Instagram photos. This is not the paradise you are made to believe by Instagram influencers. Please remember that they’re basically marketing professionals, their job is to sell you something and the Instagram posts can be very deceiving.

This place is okay. I mean, you travel to the island, they charge you 25k IDR as entrance, and then you take a cab (pre-booked with the tours you opt for), and they take you on a roller coaster ride along the hilly roads to the Keling King/Angel's Billabong/Broken beach.
Once you are there, you realize you have paid all that huge money for photo opportunities, and that's it. It looks awesome, I won't deny, and it looks exactly, if not more beautiful than in the photos. But you are looking at it from a far above point, and taking photos with these landmarks as background.
If you are not planning to actually go touch the beaches and swim in the waters (which I don't think there is an easy way to, and there are no tours that take you down there), spend your money elsewhere.
There are steep walks up and down these tourist spots to the photo spots, the heat is mostly extreme, and you get very little out of it.
The Kelingking beach is a one hour steep steps climb down and up, single way, and the beach is good. But the tours will not allow for this. They will hurry up, knowing people really come for the photos, which can be done in a couple of minutes.

Visited Nusa Penida Island with my wife on 2nd Jan 2022. We have planned day tour with Snorkeling. Well executed trip by Made Wira, I have contacted him on what's app and book my trip he has provided full trip itinerary for day tour. From Sanur jetty he has arranged our speed boat booking and other side at Penida Island he was waiting for us with name board. He has arranged privet car, road was bumpy for 5-7 minutes but his driving was very good. Made Wira has shown us all the places and took very beautiful photos and videos. He and his team for snorkeling was very helpful and always keeping safety in mind. It was very beautiful island.

Instagram and TikTok have majorly overrated this island. There are some nice picture points on this island, Kelingking and Broken beach are stunning, but this island is hugely overrated!
Firstly the island is covered in garbage, so the island is infested with flies, you’ll be hard pressed to find a restaurant/cafe that isn’t filled with hundreds of flies buzzing around constantly. 90% of your time here you’ll spend swatting away flies.
Yes some of the views are pretty spectacular, but they’re all very far away from each other as the island is quite big, and any road off of the very few main ones, are absolutely awful. Not even just potholes, they’re gravely and full of massive dips and rocks, really quite dangerous on a scooter.
Your only choice of transport around the island are expensive taxis or scooters, so if you do stay, save yourself some money and just stay by the harbour. Everything from the harbour is about the same time away, and there are plenty of restaurants around.
The few views there are, are crammed full of tourists, so unless you visit places early (you can only do that with one or two if you’ve got a packed day!!) you’ll just be fighting to get a picture that isn’t packed full of other tourists.
Crystal bay isn’t even worth visiting in my opinion, the beach isn’t nice, it’s packed full of tourists, there are lots of dogs running around, and the sea is quite rough.
They’ll charge you 5,000idr to park at all of these spots too.
The beaches on the North west of the island are a lot less crammed and are calm and beautiful!
As with most of the other places in Bali, watch out for the dogs! Most are okay during the day, but they get very territorial and aggressive at night, so unless you’re on the Main Street, please don’t walk anywhere! It’s not worth the risk of being attacked.
The hotels here are all 3 star or below, even the pricier ones still aren’t great, and it’s definitely not worth the money to stay here!
Book a day tour here from Bali, you’ll be able to cover all of the main sights on the West coast (unless maybe you wanted to spend all of your day on Kelingking beach if you’re brave enough to venture down!), it’s not worth the stay!

We went to Nusa Penida last week It is very spectacular but you have to be prepared for very steep steps. We booked the tour through aFacebook contact before we went and paid $100 each which sounded reasonable. However the full day tour ended at 2 pm because our local guide was 'tired'. Unfortunately we were booked on the cheapest ferry to and from the island so had to wait until 4.30 standing by the side of the road waiting for Ferry! My advice is make sure you book through your hotel or Villa and check all the details. Our lunch was included but it was a very basic lunch, and as I said we were booked on the very low cost ferry.

Its a pretty crowded place and people are just rushing to get the pictures. The best part comes after the crowd moves away, around 5:30 pm onward's when the sun begins to set. That's whats worth all the struggle. I wouldn't suggest people going down to the beach unless you have the time.

After seeing the magical Instagram photos of the island, we decided to spend a day at Nusa Penida. When we arrived we learnt that those divine beaches you see photos of are extremely difficult to get down to, thus why there is never anyone on the beach! Diamond point and Keling Keling beach are very dangerous to access, as you have to trek down steps (if you can even call them that) on the edge of a steep cliff with only a rope to hold on to, at times it is closer to rock climbing. These pathways get congested which creates dangerous situations as they are very narrow! However, the views that you can get of these beaches are nothing short of magical, and the literal definition of paradise! And if you are brave enough to go down the steps, I am sure you would have a great swim on a beach which you would have almost all to yourself!

We went to Crystal Bay and a friend of a friend took us snorkelling on his boat and I definitely recommend this. The water was so blue, clear and absolutely divine! There was so many beautiful fish, and coral, and it is not uncommon to see mantarays. It was wonderful!

The roads were insane, so definitely organise a driver for the day who can navigate all of the potholes and cliff edges. There were definitely moments when we held our breath! It is also quite a long drive between beaches. Overall we had a great day, however it isn’t as accessible and not quite the paradise Instagram influencers make it out to be.

One day snorkelling trip from Sanur.
Very poor experience. Booked via vendors on the promo made.
It was like a cattle market.
Waited for an hour to be picked up from 7.15am.
Then shuttled to a cafe at the harbour with about 300 other people.
All then taken to the ferry in mass and loaded on large boats.
Then on the island sent to another holding area and spoilt into smaller boats.
Our boat had about 20 people squashed on. Some people had no seats.
Getting in and off the boat with do many people difficult.
Stops at each snorkelling point very quick and felt rushed.
Snorkelling very disappointing.
No Mantas and coral poor.
Nice fish on one stop.
Large swell so boat really unstable with so many people on.
Wouldn’t recommend if you have been to other islands like Flores as snorkelling and whole experience very disappointing and really expensive extremely busy

We did a day trip here from canggu. With ride to port and boat ride and waiting took about 2 hours. On the island we drove around to 4 places. Broken beach kelingking beach angel beach and crystal beach. The sites were amazing and made for fantastic pictures. We wanted to go snokling as well but weather did not permit. Our driver had a good eye for pics which made a difference

Nusa Penida was my favorite place to visit in Bali. Diamond Beach is located there has the most beautiful water I have ever seen. To be very transparent, the climb down was very scary. The climb down didn’t have any railings or support which was so scary for me, especially considering I’m scared of heights. I literally went down on my butt. I definitely recommend wearing sneakers. In fact, I insist. Take a back pack so you can put flip flops back on while down at the beach. Keep in mind this was a few years ago so Idk if they have revamped it since, but I sure hope so. I must say the climb was definitely worth it…It was so exhilarating at the bottom. You can view my entire trip of Bali on my Instagram @angela_ethnictraveler under my highlights titled Bali1 amd Bali2. I also videoed the climb down. Do yourself a favor, if you plan on going to Diamond Beach don’t waste your time queuing in line at the Bali swing for hours bc there is a swing on the climb down that swings right over the most pristine water I have ever seen. There were also some great pics you can take at Nusa Peninda …Diamond beach, treehouse, Kelingking Beach which has the T-Rex shaped rock. We did so many activities (e.g., Tegallalang Rice Terrace where we also rode a bike in the air on a zip line, sunset beach bar where we watched movies on the beach, Tirta Gangga Water Palace, Pura Tirta Empul, Tanah Lot Temple with some aggressive monkeys lol, Uluwatu Temple where we watched a fire dance, Lempuyang Temple. KYND Community [vegan restaurant], etc.) in Bali. My family said they needed a vacation after leaving that vacation with me lol. Please feel free to watch all of my adventures and inbox me any questions.
