Named ‘Peaceful Soul’ for the serenity of its setting in Central Java’s cultural heartland, Amanjiwo overlooks the Unesco World Heritage Site of Borobudur. Perfectly placed for exploring the region’s historic and natural attractions, or for simply relaxing in blissful surroundings, the resort cascades from a lofty rotunda down the hillside to a magnificent pool.

Some hotels don't live up to their hype, but that's certainly not the case for Amanjiwo ... it's just as magical as I had heard, read and hoped it would be. The architecture and how it fits with its lovely natural environment and reflects the majesty of Borobudur is simply breathtaking. In addition to the physical beauty and spiritual nature of Amanjiwo, though, the warmth of the staff and what seemed to me a genuine desire to engage, befriend, and provide top-notch hospitality in every manner possible sets the hotel apart even among the luxury hotel segment. I know this kind of service only happens with strong, supportive leadership from the top, so kudos to their general manager, Pandhu, for his role in creating this lovely environment and personally setting an example for his staff on how to make guests feel both comfortable and special.

I wish I could remember more names but I would also like to mention the exceptional service from two other staff members. First, Arfin was our guide at Borobudur and then took us biking the next morning. He was wonderful ... calm, friendly and so knowledgeable. We had great conversations both days and felt so comfortable asking him questions about everything. He even borrowed a backpack and carried the batik sarong I bought without thinking about how I was going to transport it on my bike. And, second, Hari hosted and served our dinner at Pak Bilal's home and he was fantastic as well. He has quite a sense of humor and we learned he speaks some Japanese, with a surprisingly decent accent, as he spent a few months at the Aman in Tokyo. Many thanks to Pandhu, Arfin, Hari, and the rest of the amazing Amanjiwo team for making our visit so memorable!

We loved every second we spent at Amanjiwo and look forward to returning to this very special place!

Amanjiwo clearly is a wonderful place for people who love peaceful surrounding. I’d like to say thank to Amanjiwo team, mainly for 3 reasons :
1. Thanks for the upgrade to Borobudur Pool Suite, a super lovely stay indeed in this Suite. I could also bring my family who stay in Jogja for a visit to the pool and they’re super happy.
2. Loving the ecofriendly products around the resort, making me feeling good to use your product as it is helping the locals & friendly to nature. And especially making me feeling great to wear the locally-made hat & bag souvenir! Elles est belle!
3. Super happy to have great e-bike experience. The bikes were such in a great condition, the staff were very helpful with preparing the drink on the bike. The staff also offered trekking shoes which were very helpful for me, a pregnant lady who wants to bike with sandal, to ensure my safety. Really appreciate it!
On top of that, I’d like to appreciate the classes available on the weekend and some inputs:
1. History class : It was unique as this is the first time I found there’s a history class in a resort. Appreciate this good commitment from Aman group on culture preservation. The class is interesting but the presentation is very unstructured so I struggle to follow the presentation. If the presentation is more structured, I’m sure it would be a remarkable experience as the content is interesting.
2. Yoga class : Heard the teacher Ms Augustin is one of the best yogi in town! She clearly is a great teacher, but she didn’t entirely give translation to English around 5 – 10 minutes towards the end of the class for my husband who is an English speaker so my husband was a bit lost during those period. However, overall the class is awesome and refreshing. She is very helpful as she gives special guidance during the class as I’m pregnant.
3. Meditation class : This class is very unique as it combines yoga & Kejawen theory. It’s the same teacher as the history class so again he’s unstructured and a bit hard to follow. The meditation class time is not ideal because it’s clashing with local prayer time when the mosques loudspeakers were loudly sounding out the prayer. The location of the meditation class is very nice. If I knew it earlier, I’d love to go there and meditate myself without waiting for the group class.

Last August me and family went to Amanjiwo resort. Quite exited having staycation during the pandemic. When we arrive at the resort it was really breathtaking view seeing the building itself. And the service super amazing, they took care of our car and luggages in the car while they ask us to do the check in, also they offer us to wash and clean our car. What a service.
The hotel manager Mr. Kurniadi greet us vert friendly, he showed us the hotel areas around the lobby.
It’s time to meet our room and it was super amazing room and we found out our suitcases and all stuffed has been there already arranged neatly.
The room it self I feel personal touch, the resort knew we travel with 2 kids si they has been provide 2 kids room sandals and bathrobes too. Mr Megi is the person in charge to bring us to the room and assist us.
All the food at the resorts also amazing, the portion fair enough for the whole family.
Nothing We can say for this resort but super excellent and amazing. For sure will back to this place again later

The Amanjiwo is one of the most luxurious hotel that we have ever stayed in. We were overwhelmed by the room, the facilities and the impeccable service. Staff were polite and sought to find out more about your day and wish you well. The room was cleaned and neatly arranged every day at least twice. They even took care to tie up the loose telephone charging cables that we left dangling. We would highly recommend the Amanjiwo for anyone looking for a private getaway.

Amanjiwo is without a doubt on of the most beautiful hotels I have visited. The design of the space thinks of every little thing that you may need. The staff treat you like family. It was so peaceful and perfect in every day. The kitchen was able to handle my many food allergies and remembered them the following day, brining me foods that were safe.

We took the biking tour through the villages with Rivaldi. I highly recommend this experience. You really get to learn a lot about Indonesia and Javanese culture. Despite the heavy rainfall, Rivaldi was in high spirits and took care of everything we needed and made the tour even more special for us.

Morning yoga next to the dreamy pool area was peaceful and luxurious. Stretching and meditating while the morning mist was lifting off of the rice paddies made me feel like I was living in a fairytale.

Overall amazing stay.

An amazing hotel that is built with a view of the distant Borobudur temple and sympathetic to the temple buildings, but with all the modern amenities at your disposal. We were in the Borobudur suite which was beautifully designed and well equipped. One gets met at the airport and the 90 minute drive to the hotel was in an air conditioned wifi connected and well stocked car, through an interesting route with an informative driver. A breath taking view driving into the hotel. Met by management staff and we were given an excellent tour of the common areas and our suite, as well as the tours available to be booked. The massages in the spa were relaxing especially after a busy day touring in the sun. Hospitality and service par excellence.

Amanjiwo is a most beautiful and serene place where your every need or desire is anticipated and fulfilled This was our first stay at an Aman hotel. We wanted to stay close to Borobudur, and not only is it located close by, but we had a view of the temple from our pool villa, which was exquisite. No need to wake up before dawn to view the sunrise over the temple!

We arrived for our four night stay after 30 hours of travel, and were warmly welcomed and showered with rose petals. The main hotel building is stunning in its symmetry - covered in sandstone tile and perfectly framing Borobudur Temple in the distance. There are only 35 rooms and each is a separate walled structure. The main 40M pool is beautifully sited, with mountain views and lovely landscaping. As a swimmer, I particularly enjoyed swimming laps in this gorgeous pool. Yoga is offered in the morning, and I had a lovely private class with Augustin, as I was the only guest to show up. Food was excellent. We had dinner delivered to our villa or ate at the gorgeous open air restaurant each night. Both linch and dinner featured a small gamelan ensemble playing softly. Breakfasts were delicious with many choices of fresh juices, local fruits, and both Western and Indonesian foods.

Staff were beyond wonderful - friendly but unobtrusive. In particular I would like to mention April & Rafi at reception, Suna (26 yrs there) and Nuke at the restaurant. I had two identical 1 1/2hr massage treatments with Riski (Kiki) who was wonderful.

I cannot say enough about this beautiful hotel and staff. Truly a great hotel experience. It is indeed a very special place.

This review has been long overdue. But it is still something to write home about. We booked 2 garden pool suites for 3 nights and they were amazing. The hotel itself is simply breathtaking. The design, ambience and the feel about the place is really unique, traditional but yet still classy. The pool and its surrounding foliage is really stunning. You really feel like you are in your own sanctuary.

The room was good, with some basic necessities provided. Although i have to say the property showed its age, it was still one of the best in the area. The food and breakfast was awesome.

The staff were all really friendly and helpful. We did a lot of activities from Andong, Village visit, Borobudur visit, bicycle tour, batik making, Pak Bilal dinner and river picnic. I have to say the Pak Bilal dinner was the highlight of the trip. They are A MUST DO ACTIVITY at the property. However, my daughter were bitten by some kind of bugs that left her skin irritated and itchy during the picnic. The staff were attentive and provided the necessary medicine and they even checked out on her a couple of days after we checked out.

All in all, do yourself a favour, and when visiting Borobudur, stay here. You too will be impressed, dazed and amazed.

Me and my wife and two more couple friends were in Amanjiwo Hotel at Borobudur, Central Java, Indonesia for three nights, 15th, 16th, & 17th, August, 2023.
It is an outstanding hotel in a fantastic location and serene. The ambiance of the rooms, restaurant and the terrace is beautiful with superb food. Being vegetarians we got excellent choice of food and even things out of the menu were made specially for us.
The highlight of this trip which has become very memorable to us is because of the outstanding staff at all levels. All of them were very courteous, accommodating and served us with pleasure from their hearts.
Mr Muly and Ms Sari served us in the restaurant for all the three days with a lot of warmth and an infectious smile so did rest of the staff which will be ingrained in our memories forever.
My congratulations to the entire family of the Amanjiwo.
I wish them All the Very Best.

There are 2 ways to get up there. Walking or driving. Both take the same amount of time. The hike is about 45 minutes, is moderate except for maybe 5 minutes of a bit of a steeper climb but not difficult. You can drive there and back which takes around 1 hour one way.

The best time is evening. The car from Amanjiwo will take you there just about 20-30 minutes before the temple closes for public; but they give you a sticker (sunset access) which allows you to stay there for about 1 hour after the temple is closed, this is where there weren't many people around.
