The Fairmont El San Juan Hotel, while appreciated for its location near the airport and local conveniences, is often considered remote for those looking to explore shops and dining on foot. Guests have called out the hotel's service as friendly, but some have experienced delays and inconsistency. Cleanliness is generally commended, though issues with room upkeep aren't uncommon. The hotel's amenities, including the pool and beach access, are highlights, yet maintenance and noise can be drawbacks. Room conditions have been a point of concern, with complaints about them being outdated and not well-maintained. The lively atmosphere is noted, but continuous music often leads to a noisy environment. Regarding value, the consensus among many travelers is that the cost does not align with the quality received, with high prices and extra fees impacting the overall satisfaction.

Beautiful hotel! We stayed in the pool villas and the room did not disappoint. They were just as pictured. Although i booked balcony i was given the terrace room and I had no complaints the terrace was huge. If you can upgrade your room to a villa it’s well worth the price! I was able to walk to the pools from our terrace.
The service at the pool bar was a bit slow but i was in no rush anyways and the drinks were so good.

The casino was very nice upgraded slot machines Roulette, craps and blackjack tables

There’s a popular nightclub in the hotel so to get to the villas the hotel attendants make sure you’re staying in the hotel to proceed further into the resort to prevent those not staying to get towards the pool and villas area which is nice

I was worried about some of the reviews left about the hotel but i honestly had a great experience. I’m pretty particular about the rooms being clean and as advertised and i honestly got more than what i expected
Would i stay here again? Absolutely !

2nd time I visit this hotel. I was very satisfied with the level of covid safety procedures and care they have. They check your temperature and provided face mask if needed. The pool was nice however the service wasn't what we are accustom to get. I felt interrogated when I ordered drinks, the employee kept asking if I was a guest of the hotel. People were smoking marijuana in the pool area and no one said anything to them and were treated better than us. I was with my husband inside the premises and even gave her my room # why would she question me. In addition I had two rooms because I recommended the hotel to my friends. The drinks took a long time to get although they weren't busy. Room service is not done daily, and the front desk failed to tell us when we checked in. I had to call to find out that it needs to be done 24hrs in advance. They have no Valet parking but you still pay $22 versus $25 if Valet. Very little difference. If you travel to PR after July 15 you need to have a negative Covid-19 test 5 days prior or you will need to be quarantine for two weeks.
I was not impressed with the customer service this time, I won't hold it against them due to covid and hope next time it will be better. Overall Puerto Rico stores and restaurants are ready for tourists they check your temperature every time and give you hand sanitizer even limit the amount of people inside.

Facility itself is beautiful, but unfortunately lots of problems with service. Requests go unanswered a lot of the time, we had housekeeping bring us water 6 hours late at 10pm while my husband was asleep. They knocked on the door until we answered. The first room we were given smelled terribly of mold/mildew. Gabriel behind the desk was lovely and changed us to another room but unfortunately it was a room with 2 queens instead of a king and we are a couple. The bathroom in the new room was not clean but we sucked it up because we were tired from our flight. Housekeeping never showed up In the morning as promised, but luckily the man who was cleaning was on our floor so we just asked him personally. You can hear so many planes taking off which there is nothing to do about but be aware. The clientele feels like a big spring break party-loud, drinking, smoking etc so be aware if you plan to bring kids. Icing on the cake was that you have to wear cloth bracelets to get into the pool area and they do not come off so many guests including us were waiting at the front to get the bracelet cut off. When we asked the front desk to help us, one of the women got actually mad and told us it’s not meant to come off. We said we had other bracelets in our room and she asked who had given them to us and told us next time we should sleep with the bracelets on. Did not need the attitude...customer is supposed to be right and all I wanted was to sleep without the damn bracelet on. Pool and beach were super crowded with many drunk people, and the chairs were totally dirty and gross. For people who want a quieter more relaxing experience, I would try the sonesta next door. Not very pleased.

A centrally located hotel on Isla Verde beach that has sustained the 1958 charm and classic style. Just newly renovated, the hotel rooms are brand new, several pools, restaurants, and beach lounge service which was great. Hot tub jets were not working...bummer.
You can walk to various restaurants in the area: Platos, Edith’s Cafe, Alambique, and several sushi restaurants.

My only complaint was the front desk service. I requested a working safe in the room and patio chairs more than once. The one person who helped me with these requests was Lizbeth, who was our housekeeper, and knew who to call.

Rooms were clean with free bottled water, mini fridge, iron, hair dryer, and plenty of towels.

I found the patio/balcony made no sense. It was enclosed with a very tall white fence which didn’t allow for any view - it faced a side alley.

Checkin took a long time due to the first day as a Fairmont hotel. It seemed they were understaffed at the front desk because there was normally one, maybe two hotel staff there. I’d recommend better customer service given this first class hotel.

Entertainment on Saturday night was the best with a live salsa band. Excellent music and atmosphere! The nightclub seemed nice but the Friday night 80s and 90s theme was not played by the DJ.

Worth the stay and recommended.

I am a frequent traveler and was looking forward to my stay. I had visited here before when it was a Hilton Curio and had a good experience. I decided to pay a little more for my room and instead of the basic "Fairmont" room I reserved the "Deluxe Balcony Room" with "city view". Attached is a picture of the view from my Balcony. You will see why I was disappointed. Our first night was also a Saturday night and there was a band in the hotel lobby bar. The music was so loud and strong that my room was vibrating....the windows were rattling and glasses were ringing. It was unbelieveable. This continued until the early morning hours and I was offered no assistance from the front desk or night manager. My wife, daughter, and I got very little sleep that evening. I was told there was nothing they could do. I suggest you not stay on the 3rd floor. I was in room 324. The pool and beach were nice but the hotel and staff were weak. Coffee bar was not open at 6 a.m. as I was told and the bars use tropical beach mixes rather than real fruit. Not what you would expect from a resort that is this expensive.

Our stay was great even considering that we were there for the major earthquake, aftershock and power failure. Even though almost all of the island lost power, the generators at the hotel came on immediately and there was no perceptible loss of lights or air conditioning. The earthquakes were in the southern part of the island and the hotel is in the north. Feeling everything shake was “freaky” but there wasn’t any noticeable damage to anything. Many of the surrounding shops and restaurants were closed after that because of the power failure. However many have generators of their own and were open.

The hotel has lovely grounds with an enormous Banyan tree. There are multiple pools with nooks and crannies so you can choose to be near the bar or in a quiet location. The beach is right off the pool area. We enjoyed sitting and eating at the restaurant that flanks the pool. It would have been nice if breakfast was served until later since we don’t get going early. Even offering an all day egg dish and a yogurt and fruit option would be appreciated. The kiosk in the lobby that offers danish, muffins and yogurt wasn’t adequately stocked or replenished.

The staff were universally friendly and accommodating. I want to single out Mr. Medina at the valet station. He was very helpful suggesting restaurants during the power failure. I was very interested in learning about how the natives coped after Hurricane Maria. Mr. Medina was very happy to answer my questions and engage with me.

The rooms were renovated and modern and bright. The hotel lobby is very dark and I guess “retro”. It was built in 1958 and that’s how the lobby looks. We spent the first night in the main tower on the third floor. Directly below this is the lobby with a ballroom, Cabaret and Club. The very loud music went on until 5 AM. My daughter’s family couldn’t sleep and the two year old was up all night. They moved us the next night to the villas which had patios and was at a distance from the main building. That was perfect.

This was a family trip with ages, 2, 27-31, 65 and 80. Everyone was happy at the El San Juan. Accommodations, pool, beach, surrounding area, nightlife, staff provided something for everyone.

We stayed here for a week starting 8/7/21. It was our first time visiting Puerto Rico. We usually like to do an island vacation every year, but had to miss last year due to COVID. After reading all of the negative reviews, we were a bit nervous about our trip. However, we have to say that we really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely return!

All of the staff at the hotel were extremely nice and accommodating, especially our waiter at Banyan Grill and the girls at the coffee bar who remembered our order each day. We had a leak in our room on our third night and a maintenance worker came and checked it out promptly. He recommended that we move rooms and the front desk very quickly moved us to a room on a higher floor with a nice view of the ocean.

The resort was very well maintained overall and we didn’t have any problems with housekeeping as some others have noted in their reviews. The food and drinks at the resort were very expensive but there are other restaurants in walking distance which we also enjoyed (Mist rooftop bar, Ruth Chris, and Entrevinos) and it was also easy to Uber to downtown San Juan.

We love spending time at the beach and never had a problem getting chairs and umbrellas. The beach was beautiful and the ocean was warm with nice waves. I would say that the beach chairs and umbrellas could definitely use upgrading. Most seemed old and were ripping in places. That was probably our only complaint though!

I have stayed a this property several times and each time it gets better. The location is on point as the property is located near the beach. Across the street there is a plaza with shops and a inexpensive restaurant named mi casita the prices are unbelievable and a Burger King and a churches chicken. There is a huge CVS on the corner about 2 blocks away. The hotel has a section on the beach they provide lounge chairs, beach towels and restaurant service. The bar area is the best part of the entertainment at night either a DJ or live music. They also have a club and many shops on the property. Less than a 10 minute ride from the airport $8-10 Uber a taxi $18

From the moment you walk into the El San Juan Hotel you will be amazed. It has one of the most incredible lobbies I've ever seen. An exceptional bar area with terrific servers. The hotel staff overall are extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are large and well decorated. Comfortable bed and modern feel. The bathroom was a bit tight but that didn't bother me. Despite being close to the airport I never once heard a plane. It's in a great location in Isle Verde, plenty of restaurants and shops nearby as well as on-site. Amazing fitness center, plenty of pools that are perfectly maintained. Nice beach, waves were small which we liked. Hotel was a good size and not at all crowded which was great. Tons of activities on the weekend for families with kids. Last thing to note would be expensive valet/parking at this property as well as overall expensive meals/drinks on-site - didn't bother me but felt it should be noted. I can't wait to come back to this hotel next time I'm in Puerto Rico! Highly recommend it.

resort itself is spectacular aesthetically. Customer service on the other hand is a 0.000005 out of 10. We checked in and the ocean side suite was not available. After 15mins of arguing with the clerk, we asked fir a manager she basically said the same so we asked for any available suite and they had a poolview for $150/nt extra. At thus point we realize they were just hustling us for more $$$ with their terrible customer service. After day 2, i notice 3 transactions on my credit card and contacted the manager. They gave me a sorry reason that they initiated is to see if there’s available funds. I travel for work all the time and this never happens. After i checked out the transactions dropped off each day.

Cleanliness:
We called for the room to be cleaned after the first night and the only thing they did was replace towels. We call every day for 3days and it was never cleaned until our last night there.

Restaurants:
Food is great but Customer service is terrible. After you order your food, you have to wait 1-1.5 hours for your food.

Covid:
Theres a 10pm curfew so all restaurants stops seating at 7pm so they can close up by 8:30pm and get home by 10pm. Be prepared to be out for dinner by 5:30pm.

BEWARE if your big on customer service do not stay here.

It’s always better to get up early and procure chairs especially if it’s a busy holiday. Pool staff are very attentive and it’s always good to tip them. They will remember who does. The pool bar is very expensive. Bring your own drinks.
