The worst flying experience. Period: nasty personnel, no food or even WATER served on two 6 hour flights; $230 fees for 2 carryon bags and $120 extra for one checked bag as a premier silver Star Alliance Alliance customer. Checkin from Santiago took no less than 3 1/2 hours. All seats from middle to back of plane do not recline and have no headrests even on an overnight flight. The food for purchase consists of horrible junk food options like chips Doritos and terrible cold croissants sandwiches. Water for purchase only is warm: no ice available. The worst worst worst. The costs of flying is much higher in the end than MUCH better airlines flying the same routes such as Delta and even Copa or LATAM. NEVER AGAIN!

Cartagena - Toronto
International
I was flying from Cartagena to Bogotá - then connecting to Toronto. Both flights were from Avianca. The first flight was delayed, and I ran to the gate in Bogota for Toronto. I arrived at the gate with 20min before departing and the Avianca team at the gate would not let me board. Instead, the scheduled my flight to the next day. You would think that if Avianca delayed the first flight, the would communicate to the connecting Avianca flight that it was carrying its passengers.. but no. The next day I get on board (Departing at 2:50pm) and they were still letting people on the flight until 15-20min after. This left me pretty perplexed. Then on the flight to Toronto we had to make a stop in Washington DC to refuel (first time I've experienced this on a direct flight) but there was no update regarding a delayed flight for the general public. Google flights said it was on time but it showed up almost an hour and a half late. Again, I don't think they communicated the delay so the people picking me up had no idea where I was. After all of that - they don't provide any free food, everything is paid, no wifi, and the seat cushions fall off the seats. The attendants speak little to no English and all in all - Avianca left a poor taste in my mouth. I would not recommend this company to anyone unless you absolutely have no choice.

My mother-in-law, whom is an elderly person traveled. We tried purchasing baggage, but my card didn't go through for some reason. I asked the agent that I could use another card, but he said that once the system declines, they are unable to process any payments. This was very upsetting since they gave us the options to purchase online or at the airport. Attempted to purchase online and they website gives an error. My elderly MIL as many can understand, is not about handling airport diligences anymore. They have terrible customer service and they WILL NOT help you at all. I spoke to Samuel Pocasangre Rivas and Jackelyn the supervisor, who was not helpful at all. We will NEVER use this airline again. They have whatsapp virtual agent, HORRIBLE, you will not get your questions answered and will repeat the same questions over and over.

Washington DC - Tegucigalpa

We originally purchased tickets whuch took us from DC to Comeyagua, departing DC at 4:00 AM and arriving at Cometagua at 10:00 AM, flight had short layovers in San Salvador, and Guatemala city. Avianca kept changing the layover in Guatemala finally leaving my family of 5 with a 10 hr layover in Guatemala. Checking in we were offered VIP lounge access for $150 which I purchased. Arriving at Guatemala we were informed that there is no VIP lounge in Guatemala. I tried to get my money back, all the contact us options are answered by a bot. After hours of dealing with bots I finally spoke to person who filed a complaint which we have not heard back about for the last two weeks. 0 stars do not recommend absolute trash service.
