Neighborhood: Xintiandi
The refurbishment of a block of old shikumen into a carless entertainment center called Xintiandi, filled with restaurants, shops and bars, turned this area below South Huangpi Road into one of Shanghai’s most fashionable areas. Luxe condos house people who can afford the high-end brands that fill the malls and shops along Madang Road. The pleasant Taipinghu Park provides the area with green space and is also home to Shanghai Fashion Week twice a year. It’s not all glitter and glamour, though, as the rise of Danshui Road has given the Xintiandi area a shot of toned-down character. Small bars and cafes, mostly owned by locals, have people hanging out in a formerly quiet, unassuming part of the neighborhood.

Nice area to visit. Located in the center of Shanghai City and south of Middle Huaihai Road, Xintiandi is a fashionable pedestrian street. There are manyrestaurant and shops in the street. And it not far from my hotel Marriot marquis .

    Super jam-packed
Visited this place on Christmas Eve. It was really jam-packed but good atmosphere though. This is a popular place for younger generation, with western food /restaurant options. I enjoyed the Christmas atmosphere in this area, with the Christmas decorations in the area, and stalls along the MaDang Road.

    Old and new
I come here almost weekly for errands and this is a top 10 tourist spot in shanghai. Mainly the 200 year old shikumen stone buildings have cultural value, there are shops and restaurants to go to not found in many places elsewhere in shanghai - Aesop, Le labo, shake shack, moleskin etc. There’s also 5 star hotels like Andaz and Langham, and many expensive apartments

    Great Place For Eating
Busy area which offers plenty of shopping and eating. Loved our time strolling around here, gorgeous buildings. We found a fantastic, if pricey yum cha restaurant to have lunch and then just wandered around a bit more.

This is a local pride point that is where many expats have set up domicile, high end shopping and food, last year at this time Shake Shack opened and had a line around the neighborhhod, but there are better restaurants in the area...and a Ferrari dealer....and Tesla....and nice parks.

A nice area to walk about, with some older European architecture in the area of the French Concession. Lots of neat looking cafes and restaurants and a bunch of modern fancy malls.

For historical attractions, I wanted to visit the museum of the Korean provisional government. Unfortunately, it was closed.

We visited Xintiandi with a tour group in August 2019. Xintiandi is a picturesque little area with modern shops and restaurants where you can enjoy outside alfresco dining and have a drink. Some of the shops are high-end and clearly marketed to tourists, but it was nice to sit at the Boxing Cat Brewery and enjoy the atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.

Nice area to visit. They are still constructing after 15 years. Many of the hip restaurants have moved out, but you have others like Lady M or Din tai fung moving in. Lots of shops between luxury to streetwear

This area has lots of shopping areas and malls. The nice thing is that there are some nice areas with small areas where there are some nice cafes. There are a few local beer brewary too in this area. A nice place to spend the afternoon walking around and relaxing. It is also quite close to the French Consession area.

As well described elsewhere, Xintiandi is an outdoor mall development which incorporates traditional stone buildings (shikumen) and a modern shopping centre. The developers have successfully attracted shops and bars that are high-priced, by Shanghai standards, but a healthy step cheaper than the ultra-luxe offerings at the Bund. It's typically teeming, full of tourists and Shanghai's newly upper-middle-class. The mall, which is perhaps a bit more fashion-forward than many here, is usually quieter than the outdoor food court and shops. Restaurants in Xintiandi are typically good to better than good, although local chains which have a presence there appear to bump up their prices by 30% or more to meet the higher rents. Concierges, faced with hungry western guests, almost always send them here for their first Shanghai meal. A good place for a half-day's shopping and noshing - longer if you try the cinema, which features English-language films - and with convenient taxi and subway service to take you to your next destination. Hardly a true taste of the city - but perhaps closer to it than the more anonymous malls elsewhere.

This is one entertainment complex you shouldn't miss. They have a wide variety of places to hang out in. From coffee shops to discos to bars with bands. Drinks and food are plentiful. Just watch out for lady-joiners - lots of them milling around, keeping an eye out for foreigners in need of some "love". And mind you, they aren't all asian, some even look european and they dress decently enough.

Heard so much about it so we decided to visit the area. It is a very creative development and there are plenty of bars within the two blocks area. It was interesting to see how this area being turned into a upscale westernized commercail blocks but yet retianing the facade of the old Shanghai.

Looking for things to do in the evening, can take a stroll down Xintiandi.
