Try to get in contact personally with a guy called Passang. He is one of the people there managing this small great Tibetan run company. Highly recommendable!

Hi, I'm planning to visit Tibet for the very first time. I would like to join the 8-day tour. I'm coming from the USA. What have you learned from your visit? What items that I would need while in Tibet aside from personal use? I'm not picky with food; how much lunches and dinners cost in Tibet? Where did you purchase their currency... the Yuan? Where did you purchase your plane ticket, and to which airport? I'm likely to visit alone; is there anything that I should know about traveling alone? I really appreciate your time reading my post. Thank you so much and I hope you'll have a wonderful day =)))

Currency: Bring a debit card that has support in Tibet. We did not, only bringing cash. There was one cash conversion machine near our hotel-- which broke after the first night after which we converted cash with other members of our tour. Many debit card machines in Lhasa.
Traveling alone: No problem, as you must sign up with a tour. THT had someone meet us at the airport and with us most of the rest of the time, otherwise we usually did things with other members of the tour. Three people on our tour were travelling alone.
Ticket: We got ours through OneTravel, and I had to search a lot to find an agency that could book us on the flight I knew existed coming back from Lhasa to Kathmandu. This is either due to a requirement to provide a passport picture to book the flight or software unable to book a flight ending before it starts ( due to time zone change).
Visa: Work with Small Tenzin at Tibet Highland Tours on visa. We came and went from Kathmandu, which has a different visa process than from anywhere else, but more straight forward in important ways. Be prepared to spend a few days in Kathmandu getting the visa. We arrived during a week long Chinese holiday, so check their holiday schedule. THT had a private contractor work the visa with the Chinese Embassy--far more informal than we were comfortable with, but it worked.
We flew Air China in the end, but had booked another airline at first-- which changed by a day. Give yourself some room on either end of your trip in Kathmandu for schedule changes. Four of the 8 that did you the 8-day trip had to make adjustments just before or during the trip for this reason. There's but one direct flight a day for some parts of the year.
Items needed: Toilet paper, good cold weather gear like gloves for the night and morning at Everest Base Camp, flashlight, notebook for record of trip, medicine for colds, headaches, just in case-- I had the former. Good walking shoes. Things to do on a bus-- book, card games, etc...
Money: Meals ran 42Y to 110Y for two people, so half that for you per meal, 11 meals. My records show we (2 of us) spent 1289Y on meals, tips, gifts-- I probably missed a couple of items. We skimped a bit while searching for a cash machine, so give yourself some room above that. At the time ( Oct'16) $1 equaled about 6.5-7Y.
Learned: Many things about Tibetan culture and Buddhism, also got a great visual impression of the Tibetan Plateau and the Himalayas-- not quite what I had expected. Ask the guide about Tibetan family structure and education, as these are unusual for Americans.
Good luck with your trip!

Usually most of the clients they prefer to have diamox after prescription from doctor. Also Hongjintian would be good for altitude sickness as well.

Re: altitude sickness... Hard to say-- people just react very differently, and fitness is typically not relevant to whether you'll experience or not. We took Diomox (need doctor's prescription) and everything turned out fine. A few members of our group were extremely tired and listless first few days and then adapted quickly. Only suggestion other than medication is for you to stay in Lhasa a few days to relax, adapt before venturing to other higher altitudes if you intend to do that.

Hi,
I am planning to come in August. I would like to know if it is possible to arrange a one-day tour to Nam Cho lake? How much will it cost? Is there any trip to Mount Everest base as well? I will be travelling alone so I don't mind going in group.
Regards,
Shadow
