I stayed a night at Beidoo Hotel. It is one of those business hotels where you just need a place to rest for the night. I heard that it was refurbished recently but the premises remain quite dull. The room that I had was quite spacious though, with two single beds. Basic amenities were present and the bed was relatively comfortable. Although it was an old hotel, the hygiene was up to standard. The toilet and shower area were well kept and clean, though a tad bit small.

A couple of let-downs:

(1) The slippers provided were not the disposable type, meaning they are recycled from travellers to travellers.

(2) No definite separation between shower area and the rest of the toilet. The filmsy shower curtain did little to avoid the splash of water to other part of the toilet.

(3) Lighting in room was a bit too dim.

(4) Sound proofing was quite lacking. Noise from corridor could be heard easily. The air-con system was also quite noisy. For a while, I thought it was the idling of a bus outside the hotel (I was staying at low level), only to find out that the noise was emanating from the air con duct.

Despite the above let-downs, the room was very cheap. The selling point is definitely the location. It is situated close to the harbour area and is 5 minutes away by foot from the night market where you can get excellent food. As a basic accomodation, it serves its purpose well. The staff was also very helpful and polite. Thumbs up for the good customer service.

We booked our stay here for a night after our 5-day cruise early this year. Our room, though huge, is only good for two persons and has no windows but that's ok..we just want a place to take a rest and leave our stuff for our northeastern tour the following day. Room rates included a buffet breakfast which was a basic combination of western and chinese food.

Location-wise it's very good, just a few minutes walk from Keelung's night market - which my hubby and I did really enjoy especially the street food! There are also other establishments nearby like banks, convenience stores etc, and it's also very near the Keelung port.

The only comment I have is that this hotel is kinda outdated. The hotel hallways are not well-lighted and looked very gloomy (see attched photos). Airconditioning and bed were ok for us. Overall, we had a pleasant stay at this hotel.

My friends and I only stayed here a night, but I enjoyed the stay. The room we booked at first had no window, but we were offered an upgrade with a window, which was nice. The hallways did smell like smoke, however, sometimes coming into the room. Staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. They allowed us to check-out later and keep our bags while we explored Jiufen. Didn't eat the breakfast, but went out. Very close to the night market. I would recommend.

Good, clean and spacious rooms. very good staff and service. Nice and smiley. The breakfast is basic but good and fresh, very much like other similar Taiwan hotels, but with more veraiaty. Great locaion in the center of town: 3 minute walk from the famous miaokou night market. In the main event of the ghost festival the celebrations was right in front of the hotel.

Don't be deceived by the dated exterior. The rooms, facilities and amenities within the hotel are very functional and well maintained. Particularly impressed with the cleanliness of the bathroom given that it is such an old hotel. The location is also great.
The only thing to take note is that the entrance of hotel is not luggage friendly as there are only stairs and no slope for big luggages or wheelchair.
But overall, it was a pleasant stay with very little complaint unlike our stay at another hotel nearby.

Although the room stayed had no window but hotel is generally decent and clean.

Would recommend to have better design of the control of the aircon. Looks like the control switch it is not functioning.

I would plan to go there in my next trip

It was very close to the Keelung night market, and breakfast was served with Salad bars, bread and porridge.
The room is OK, but there is space between the door. However the sound proof seems like no problem at all.
Service is good, will help to keep the room key if we want to go to night market.

We booked this hotel just a day before our trip and only quad room was available. Though the hotel is old, it is clean and well maintain. Breakfast spread is consider good for a 3-star hotel. Downside is the air con is too strong. Also the guests staying opposite smoke in their room and made a lot of noises during the evening.

After an hour and a half bus ride from Hsinchu, we had arrived in Keelung, our first visit to this beautiful port city. As it was the rainy season, we jumped into a cab to arrive at the Hotel Beidoo minutes later, about NT$75 when the starting cab fare is NT$70.

Not happy to be told that our room is not ready till 3pm, we left our luggage and head straight off to tour the surrounding areas when the rain was not as heavy - Baimiweng Old Fort and Bisha Fish Market, the two main attractions in Keelung.

Checked in around 2.30pm and was given room 851 initially but room was still not yet ready. Furious, I asked for another similiar room type, and was given 855, which is next to an aircon compressor room (got to wear ear plugs to sleep due to the constant buzzing sound). As we are only staying for 2 nights, we relented as room 851 is next to the lift landing, which could be noisier.

Our room 855 seemed refurbished, quite spacious and the bathroom has tub and a window to the roof top garden. Sound proofing is not perfect but neighbours are generally quiet during the night. No outside traffic noises, thank god!

The Twin beds, however, was the most comfy of our 3 hotels in this 9 days Taiwan trip and we slept pretty well here. Breakfasts next day was rather extravagant, with many choices. Porridge was very warm here, great for my mum! We noted no Mainland Chinese tour groups here, instead, they serve mostly Taiwanese tour groups.

Location to the Maikou Night Market is about a 10 mins walk, not too bad in my opinion. And there are lots of eateries near this Hotel. Staff are all friendly and helpful, too. When we complained that there is no safe in the room, they had offered to store our valuables at the Reception's safe. And this had worked well. Wifi in room also worked.

All in all, we have had a great stay here. Among the 3 hotels in this trip, this Hotel was the best and its rates are also the highest among the 3 hotels. Slight negatives of staying here are -
1. there are some 6-7 marble steps leading up from the road to the Reception area. In rainy weather, which Keelung is famed for, this could pose as a health hazard.
2. No safe in room, had to use Reception's safe - a chore.
3. the Hotel's facade and lobby areas are very dated indeed.
4. Enforced a 3pm check in time. Come on, this is not even Japan where most Japanese hotels' check in time is 3pm.
5. our room 855 is next to a compressor room, constantly producing a buzzing sound. Got to wear ear plugs.
6. carpeted floors in the room, bad for allergy sufferers like me.

After a two nights stay here, we took a 30 mins bus ride to Taipei, where we spent our last 3 nights in an apartment.
