Comedian Gilbert Gottfried is under fire for Tweeting a series of mean spirited jokes about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan (the death toll has hit around 3,000).
“Japan is really advanced. They don’t go to the beach. The beach comes to them,” he Tweeted.
Another read, “Japan called me. They said “maybe those jokes are a hit in the US, but over here, they’re all sinking.”
A flurry of outrage exploded on Twitter a short time later. “Anyone say not funny?” read one Tweet. Another Tweeted: “Wow, Gilbert Gottfried. Really? STFU.” Another called Gottfried an expletive.
Rapper 50 Cent also has been criticized for his Tweets. One read: “Wave will hit 8am them crazy white boys gonna try to go surfing.”
Later, the rapper admitted on Twitter that some of his messages were “ignorant” and he wrote them “for shock value.”
