We wanted a restuarnt with a view of the water and this restaurant fit the bill nicely. The second floor balcony allowed a nice view of the Lion Bridge and the river. We had a variety of light items- oyster stew (very good), the hummus...plate (only OK), a house salad with shrimp (very good), and a quesadilla (fine). The best part of the visit was that drinks were happy hour priced and those prices were quite reasonable. The server was very friendly but a little on the slow side bringing things-- a fork, ordered beverages. And, she lost my credit card. When she returned the bill for me to sign, the credit card was not returned. I had to find her to ask where my credit card was and she was surprised/confused. She had to look. She found it on the floor by the register where she had processed the transaction. She then made the mistake of telling me that this has happend to her before. This kind of clouded my opinion of the restaurant.More

We sat down a family of 4 and ordered 4 drinks from the cocktail menu that states drinks were $5.00 during happy hour. Our server, Kimberly was extremely rude, inattentive and extremely short. When we received our bill we noticed that the drinks were full...priced. When bringing it to our servers attention, she stated many times “we don’t do happy hour during the busy season” and walked away. I spoke with a manager who was extremely friendly and helpful who fixed our bill to reflect the happy hour special listed on their website as well as on the brochure on the tables. Food however was absolutely amazing. We ordered 2 shrimp and lobster pasta dishes, a shrimp and lobster taco dishes and a side salad with chicken AMAZING FOOD but would recommend sitting upstairs with a server!More

This place is ideally located on a corner across from the park and marina. Sitting outside was delightful. Seats weren’t available for twenty minutes so we sat at the bar and had drinks served by a delightful young man (Travis, I think). I ordered a...rum drink called The Painkiller. I wasn’t in any pain, but did enjoy the drink. thought the crab BLT was amazingly tasteless, but the fries were good. There was a lot of crab in the sandwich, it just had no taste. I certainly plan to return though. I think that overall this is a very popular and solid establishment.More

Have not been to A1A in many years, but always had a wonderful meal in the past. This time not so much. We ordered appetizers, one being the special, Oysters Rockefeller, we had to send them back, as they were cold. They cooked us a...fresh dish, but they were terrible, basically just an oyster with bread crumbs on top, not a true Oysters Rockefeller. If you are going to have a special, get a better recipe. The artichoke dip was okay toast with it was way to dry, made you choke. Service could have been better. Probably won’t go back, too many great places in town.More

We stopped in here for lunch while touring St Augustine. It is located right at the foot of King Street across the street from the marina and waterfront. It was cool and breezy so we sat inside upstairs and had a table by the window...where we could look out at the water. I had the Cuban sandwich with black beans and rice as my side. The sandwich was good but I wouldn't have it again. The pile of beans and rice was huge and hot (temperature not spicy) and quite good. My wife had a cup of the Beer cheese soup and it was excellent the she had their grilled cheese sandwich which had bacon on it and it was also very good. Server was pleasant and efficient. Prices were acceptable. Downstairs is the bar, I think and it is at street level. You can probably still see the water. Glad we stopped in. It is located in the heart of some of St Augustines best sights.More

Stopped in for lunch and it was packed but we were seated within 10 minutes. Service was excellent but the food was just ok. We got the Cuban sandwich with fries and it did taste good but very skimpy on the meat. We also had...the Jumbo loaded nachos which were definitely loaded but the taste was just lacking flavor. All in all it was just ok.More

The view and our server were very nice, but the food was so disappointing. Ordered the paella and it was plain yellow boxed rice topped with frozen miniature shrimp and rubbery clams, no seasoning and served lukewarm. My husband ordered a medium NY Strip, came...out well down and full of gristle. If going here for the view don't order any dishes that require skill.More

Happy hour cannot be beat! Premium “fancy” drinks are $5 right on the waterfront in the prime historic district location! My husband and I split the filet medallions and had plenty and our daughter and her husband split a shrimp and pasta dish and likewise...had plenty. Everything, food and drinks, yummy! Waiter was great. Outdoor seating is limited, but windows are large and the view can be enjoyed from inside.More

This experience came at a moment of anger brought about by 123 Burger joint on King St.. I was livid about poor service and just wanted something to eat and to go back to my B&B, drink and try to forget about the worst dinning...experience yet in St Augustine. My wife said, “let’s go to this Ale Works place, eat and forget that other place existed”. We found our way upstairs to the dinning room and we were greeted by polite mask wearing employees who sat us immediately. NOW, here comes the best part of the night, Ben S..... OMG, this guy saved my night. Ben had my wife and laughing and cutting up while I should’ve been pissed at that stupid lame burger place. The FOOD, Amazing The SERVICE, BEYOND expectations The drinks were great and the prices very reasonable. If you’ve had a swing and a miss with dinning in St Augustine, go see Ben S, and the fine staff at A1A Ale Works and have the best evening yet.More

Our group was planning to go on a scenic cruise on the bay, but the weather was bad so we decided to go across the street and have some drinks and appetizers. They were able to seat our group upstairs where we had our own...space and a sweeping view of the bay. We were able to find a parking space right by the restaurant, but others came on Ripley's Red Train, which stops right across the street. All the appetizers were delicious, but when we saw the nachos, we were sorry that we hadn't ordered them. They came on a huge tray that looked like a cookie sheet. Our dining companions let us taste them, and they were a perfect blend of crispy and creamy, savory and spicy. We will order those next time. The others were enjoying their mixed drinks. The waiter kept my glass full of ice water. The wait staff was very attentive. It was a great experience, especially since they accommodated our large group on short notice.More

We had six people in our party and noone liked their lunch. I had the shrimp po boy and the shrimp was so dried out it was like eating rubber. A friend had the cuban and there was so much mustard it made it almost...inedible. Another had shrimp and grits and her shrimp was also dried out. Service was slow even though it was not too busy in the restaurant. We should have asked the locals where to dine!!More

We have eaten here on a number of occasions, this time with two other couples. I was not overly excited about the food this time. I had shrimp and grits. The shrimp was nicely spiced but the grits were dry and did not have much...flavor. My wife had the fried shrimp basket. She said the shrimp tasted good but not hot when they arrived at the table. Also, the coleslaw that it came with was warm, so she did not eat it. We felt safe amidst the Covid pandemic. The servers wore masks and we dined on the outside balcony. We will probably not eat here on our next return trip.More

With one customer other than ourselves, the bartender had his own speed and told us our order would be out in 10 minutes. It was 35 minutes later as we were walking out did he say I’m going to get your order. The side order...of guacamole was so old - think brown and acidic which we couldn’t eat. While the view may be amazing the food and service are not.More

Sadly, we were very disappointed with our experience here. In no particular order: 1) Seats in the booth were old and hard as the cushioning has apparently deteriorated over time. 2) My salad came DRENCHED in dressing. 3) Coffee was served lukewarm at best. When...I sent it back I was told they would make a new pot, but it immediately was returned - oddly needing no more milk or sugar .... obviously it was just put in the microwave. 4) Noise level due to live music being performed (downstairs from our table) was excruciating - could barely carry on a conversation. 5) Mens' room was filthy with trash overflowing all over the floor.More

Most every restaurant in historic downtown is closed Tues/Wed bc of COVID even though this is not listed on their websites. After walking around for half an hour, we came back to Ale Works, which was right by where we were staying-Bayfront Marin House. We...saw they were open. 45 minute wait but at that point we didn't care. The hostesses did a great job telling the same thing to each person who came in and asked how long until a table. They were one of the few places open. By the time we got seated, the wait time was close to 2 hours. Our food and drinks were outstanding and so was our waiter, who had the unfortunate time of it being his first night on the job. Highly recommend!More
