Check-in was easy but the room I had chosen (3A) had a big tree outside which blocked the harbour view. I asked if they could move me and they did - no fuss, no request for additional payment to 3B which had an unobstructed view of the town and the harbour. They request a $200 key deposit in CASH, but that's fine as you get it back on check-out.
Room was big enough with a nice balcony. Good water pressure in the shower and hot, and the room was very clean. Remember it is a 3 star hotel and adjust your expectations accordingly before making comments about decor :-)
There's a rooftop with BBQ that I didn't use. There's an Indian restaurant on the ground floor of the hotel and many other options close by.
On the first day I was woken early by the Chinese restaurant nearby as they prepared for dim sum. I slept through it the second day.
I enjoyed my staycation on Lamma and cannot fault this hotel.
The only good things i can say is, the bed is really comfy, the air-con is fantastic and the location is really good since it's close to the ferry and to the bank.
First, in the whole trip we didn't have any hot water to shower in, had absolutely no warning but just had a sign saying not to leave the hot water on for more than 5min, but not even for 5 seconds we had any hot water.
Second, no room service, nobody will clean your room, they don't even offer a broom or anything, and if you decide to use their plates/cups/forks, if you don´t wash them they will charge you for it.
Third, the sofa in our room had really disgusting stains.
Fourth, no toothbrush, no hair brush, no conditioner, no hand soap, nothing, all you get is shampoo and body soap on the wall, which is stupid since they don´t specify on their website.
Fifth, they don't tell you anywhere you can only pay in cash, thank god for the bank next door, oh and the 200 deposit, failed to mention it as well.
Sixth, since their surroundings looked dirty, the flip flops they offer makes you think twice before using them, so take slippers to walk around the room, unless you have the courage to wear those.
Seventh, the english dvd section, barely any good movies, and you have to pay 10hkd to rent a movie.
Last but not least, at 4-5am in our first night we heard someone trying to open our window and break in, talk about safety, barely any.
Overall, i just dont think the money is worth it, i wouldnt step foot in this hotel again.
Okay, I could see from the design that the "resort" was meant to be an above-average one at the beginning. The location was very good, so was the view, but that is! I was glad that I didn't stay there for the weekend for the room rate doubled on Friday and Saturday. We stayed at a room with a balcony in Block 8 which was a better choice for the view of some of the rooms in Block 7 are likely to be blocked by the public toilet in front.
The place was very very convenient. It's only 2-minute walk from the pier and library, and less than 1-minute walk to the main street. The size of the room was clearly stated in its website, so there's nothing we could complain about the size. The room actually looked good in the first sight, but not so when we walked into the room. It was quite well-designed but not at all well-maintained. Seeing the stains on and feeling the not-so-crisp fabrics of the sofa, curtain and bedding, I could not describe the room as clean. What's worse was the bathroom. The bad smell of the drain filled the room whenever we forgot to close the bathroom door. And even when we did, the foul smell poured out whenever I opened the door. It was good that there were body wash, shampoo and toilet paper available, but the flush wasn't strong enough and the screen sliding shower screens were broken. We could also tell from the peeling off of the wooden bathroom door that it was not being well taken care of. I might sound like a clean freak, but the very first thing that I did when I went back home was to take a shower.
There were many VCDs for rent in the reception. We thought of browsing through the shelves but didn't since we thought everything could be available online. And finally, we understood why these VCDs might be needed when we were in the room. Yes, there was free Wifi, but no, it wasn't a high-speed one. The signal was way too weak to even upload a photo.
I was actually wavering among the airbnb rooms, Concerto Inn and this place. After all, the location matters. I don't know if there are better budget choices with central location like this place, but if you concern more about quietness and cleanliness, you may like have second thoughts, research and explore a little more.
The room (3C) was simple clean and with what we needed.
Simple but useful kitchen.
Excellent location on the Main Street
Excellent Indian restaurant in the ground floor, most recommended.
Friendly staff.
We’ll be back
We didnt bother to call the reception at night, first because they wouldn't be able to get us another room anyway (they had claimed that all their rooms were fully booked) and second we figured we could sleep with the balcony window opened (the bed was right next to the window).
Surely the sea breeze was a good company of our sleep, and what made us really pissed was that the scent did NOT go away after the night. The goats milk odor was still stronger than ever especially at the kitchen. Thus, taking into consideration that I had paid HKD$1,100 for this room of approximately 200 square feet, I informed the hotel of this issue and demanded some sort of compensation.
The hotel then sent a staff, apparently just a cleaner of some sort, to the room with us; and what he said was, "oh, certainly there's a milk scent, but it's definitely not smelly at all, nor have we ever received complaints about it."
At the end, they did not offer any sort of compensation at all. So guys, avoid this place if you don't want to ruin your Lamma experience.
Great value for money and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Fantastic view from front apartments with a quiet surrounding considering it is situated on the main street
The first time we stayed in a room with a little kitchen and a balcony on the water. We found the room quite charming and paid about 650 HKD/ night. The second time we chose a smaller room in the main building and paid 450 HKD/ night. As the prices double over weekends and public holidays, I think we'll stick to weekdays if we do go back (and we might!).
It's not the cleanest hotel I've been to and certainly not the best, but for Hong Kong it seems okay. The air-con, TV and fridge work and you usually get a kettle and some plates and cups and such (that you need to wash before leaving). They also have a selection of DVDs and VCDs downstairs that you can rent out for 10 HKD.
The staff is friendly and helpful, if you can find someone. When I was there, the staff person couldn't speak English so we had to converse in Mandarin all weekend, which was a little rough.
Rooms aren't particularly clean, but it was comfortable and the location was great for a fun weekend on the island.
