The New Java Launcher is Live

Available on Windows, MacOS, and Linux!

We were nervous when we first heard the rapid footsteps of the Launcher team scurrying up to our desk, but no need to panic - they come bearing good news! The new Launcher has gone live for the Java Edition of Minecraft for Windows, MacOS, and Linux. This is the first, big step in the Launcher team’s quest to create a unified experience for all Minecraft players!

The fresh new look and feel was created with the player in mind - updated and intuitive UX design along with responsive UI will make getting to the game (or wherever you want to go!) easier than ever. Most importantly, the Launcher has new core logic to support bigger and better things in the future of Minecraft.

But like a mullet, this article is a mix of business in the front and party in the back. If by the back, you mean technical updates! The new Launcher will handle many issues that will make the user’s experience much smoother:

  • Improved accessibility features for Windows and Mac users with disabilities
  • Ability to switch between profiles within the Launcher
  • Added patch notes for new releases
  • Updated News tab
  • New language system
  • Reduced the Launcher update download size
  • Installations (previously called Configurations) can now be played directly from the Installations tab

Best of all, all you need to do to get the new Launcher is restart your current launcher and it will auto update to the latest version. Yes, even I, someone who electrocuted herself while plugging in a toaster, can easily (and painlessly) update to the new Launcher. You can too! Download the Minecraft Launcher today.
