- tango101019 contributionsVisited McCarthy’s wildlife sanctuary on April 19, 2024. My wife and I took her best friend who was visiting from Boston to the sanctuary. Our guide was Bianca, who was very knowledgeable regarding the animals, and the history of how they arrived at the there. The tour took approximately two hours and was wonderful! The variety of animals that they house was amazing. The staff were very friendly and willing to answer questions. Hats off to Bianca! - Cheryl G1 contributionI took my three 6 year old grandchildren and we had a great time. Absolutely all beautiful animals and interesting to hear their stories of rescue. The volunteers were amazing, such dedication. Also nice not to take photos, I could enjoy my time and we bought the book instead. It was great seeing some behind the scenes action before the aquarium opened. Loved seeing the otters being trained. - weekd09Carryduff, UK397 contributionsGreat family fun day. Tickets were OK price wise. However, lots of additional costs. Would recommend hiring a pedal bike/ taxi to see everything. This was also a fun experience. Aminal feeding was also a big hit. Lots of animals to see but a big number of empty enclosures too. Very early closing time given the cost. $40 per adult. Discount if you are >60 years young and small Military Discount.
Paid $15 to park for 3 hours, which is what you will need time wise.
We went on a sunny day in the middle of the week, so hoards of kids wasn't a big problem. There were a few schools visiting, but it wasn't crazy. I've heard that weekends and rainy days are very crowded.
The penguin display was very disappointing. They have a better one at the Tampa Zoo. There are NO Dolphins, certainly no whales.
They had some sharks and sea turtles. Many of the displays were small and the wildlife didn't look like they were exactly "living the life".
We went because we needed something to do and we have never visited before. It's okay to visit once. Our Family just hosted our son's Wedding this past weekend and our Wedding Coordinator Shelly was Fantastic! After the outdoor intimate wedding, the guests were able to feed the giraffes, and have 2 other animal encounters during the cocktail hour. The reception was fun, the food was fabulous, Denise and her team were on point! I simply can't say enough about this venue and staff! Ever evolving exhibits allow up close views of a wide variety of animals, but expect something under construction as they continue to grow and update. There's always an abundance of volunteers to answer questions. Most popular are the giraffe and kangaroo exhibits and bird aviary. The kids can cool off and refresh in the Splash Pad area. Something for almost everyone. It seems most guests plan for a return visit before they even leave. - TropicGiGiHighland Beach, FL6 contributionsMy visit to Lion Country Safari was a tremendously enjoyable day. The park is immaculate and well tended throughout. All of the animals looked to be content, alert, and meticulously well cared for. The “Safari” which is the drive-through the park was a complete winner. With the trip taking a little over an hour, we saw flocks of birds and so many animals up close along with caretakers who were looking after them in the wild. At the end of the Safari, we decided to have lunch in the restaurant and wow it was a great experience. The facility was a family-friendly restaurant that was spacious, new, immaculate, and attractive and the food was absolutely terrific. I had a cola and a smash burger that was the best burger I’ve eaten in a long time. My companions had salads that they loved. You really don’t expect crisp and delicious salads in a park like this, but Lion Country Safari pulled those off beautifully thanks to a friendly and helpful staff. For dessert, we each chose the pineapple Dole Whip that was a refreshing and delightful treat. We each made some purchases at two different gift shops that are well above the average attraction gift shop - nice jewelry for instance. Friends of mine have told me what a great experience it is at this park, but I had no idea how good it would be until I visited. Next time, I will take advantage of more things that the park has to offer and might even consider staying in a cabin overnight. As an old commercial says, “Try it. - Kellie SEBradenton, FL11 contributionsThe rescue is a great place to visit if you want to see some wildlife up close. The volunteers are friendly and happy to tell you about the animals, especially Luna (their pride and joy). It's not huge, but if you consider that this is a rescue and these are permanent residents that can't be released for one reason or another, that's good. We want them to go back to the wild, right?
The atmosphere is cozy and the animals have ample space. The gift shop has a lot of great things for all ages, and purchases obviously support the rescue!
