About
Kılıç Ali Paşa Hamam; The elegant authentic surroundings of this Turkish bath, magnificent creation of Mimar Sinan, transcends the timeless barriers between old and new… Giving you an escape from the hustle and bustle of beautiful Istanbul City.Mimar Sinan the legendary Architect of that period was commissioned by “Kilic Ali Pasa” to build the Hamam to withstand the ravages of the sea and time. The large light, Magnificent Dome above the Camegah (relaxation area) is 14 meters across and 17 meters high one of the largest single domes built by Sinan. The features of the Kulhan Chimney/exhaust, the leaded domes and the glass elephant eyes along with brick by brick reappointing, original Kurnas and some carved stone and marble slabs found during excavation have been retained and used within the premises adding to its extreme historical beauty and interest. The Hamam Ritual is an ancient one, the materials used have not significantly changed and used to restore energy and vitality to the body by reducing the toxins, and allowing the skin to breathe again

Neighborhood: Karakoy
Sitting pretty with an age-old air about it, Karakoy is situated on the European side of the Bosphorus at the mouth of the Golden Horn. Perhaps the city’s most historically significant area, it’s currently one of the most happening parts of town as well. Here street vendors and alfresco fish restaurants line the banks of the Horn where the views of major attractions across the water rival Karakoy’s own key attractions, such as the iconic 14th century Galata Tower and the Museum of Modern Art. A major hub for local and international waterborne traffic, Istanbul’s commercial and maritime heritage remains as relevant and evident as ever in Karakoy. Commuter ferries mingle with luxury cruise liners at its busy port, ensuring a continuously cosmopolitan flow of people..

    Don’t pass up this spa!
5 stars for the atmosphere, attentive staff, fragrance, total sensory immersion! A scrub down followed by a bubble explosion and massage! This was a superb morning of relaxation for my daughter & me. For comparison, I ranked a Barcelona hamam experience as a 4 star, a Greek one as a 1 star (self scrubbing? Really?) and a Texas one as a 0.01 star- they had the name right but neither the experience or anything else y’all.

    Beautiful place
Excellent experience here. Such a clean and beautiful place. The service was brilliant. This was my first time in a Hamam so was very unsure and a little nervous. The staff however are wonderful and made it an incredibly relaxing and enjoyable experience.

    Happy surprise!
It was my first time to the Kilic Ali Pasa hammam, and I was so happy with my experience. I had been to the Aya Sofia hammam earlier in the week, so I can compare it only to that. This one had far more locals than tourists. Also, it was busier. I found the entire place to be very clean. It’s a very pretty facility with a very nice staff. The attendant who took care of me didn’t speak a lot of English, and I don’t speak Turkish, but we managed to communicate just fine. She took great care of me. The cost was entirely reasonable, 1350 lira. It is well worth it. The locker rooms are shared, but you are assisted a locker with a key, so your valuables are secure. You do need to bring underpants or bathing suit bottoms to wear. There are hairdryers you can use when you are finished.

    Extraordinary experience!
Highly recommended. This hamam or Turkish bath was recommended by an Istanbuler friend. If you have never been to a hamam before (and I hadn't) it's an extraordinary experience. The central treatment is a massage and a full body exfoliaton. I think I lost two layers of skin. The masseur was rough sometimes and gentle at others and a master at his work. There was an brilliant moment when I was being worked over and covered in bubbles and the muezzin in the mosque next door began the call to prayer. Brilliant. Like going back in time. And good value too.

    Best hamam in Istanbul
This is probably the best place to get an authentic hamam (Turkish bath) experience in Istanbul. The historical location adds to the occasion; the staff is highly professional, and the prices are reasonably priced for the high-quality service. I also highly recommend the massages.

    Relaxing and professional service
Wonderful professional hammam with great staff. I was very impressed by my first hammam experience. The staff are meticulous and professional. You’re welcomed with a refreshing sherbet drink as you wait for your time (reserve online in advance). Then you’re given a locker key and towel to change into. I would suggest women should wear a two piece bath in suit for the experience. Then you’re taken into the sauna area and then the hammam experience begins 20 minutes later- exfoliation, massage, etc. it’s very well done. Then you can relax in the coming area and order a drink or food. You can pay by credit card but tips are cash only, so bring cash for sure!

    Beautiful and relaxing experience
First time experiencing a Turkish bath and it won’t be the last! I had read and watched some videos so that I would not go in unprepared. You wear a bikini bottom and Turkish towel and then you take off the towel and they their initial dousing. Just got my glasses off in time for them not to get wet. Then they take you to the warm marble slab and you just lay dow and look at their incredible dome and try not to fall asleep You then experience dousing, scrubbing and my favorite-the bubbles cascading down your body-the most relaxing feeling I have ever experienced! My lady also did a wonderful massage of my legs and shoulders. It was incredible They wrapped me back in towels and gave me tea before my massage. I highly recommend it!!

Stunning building with service to match, but it does cost
We have been to the hamam 3 times since 2018 and twice in the last year and it is a beautiful building and by far one of the most well kept hamams in the city. It is incredibly clean and has a very nice service approach and huge atrium for receiving new arrivals. A generic hamam service will cost you EUR 57 for your first time and EUR 47 subsequently and massages are about EUR 60-70 for 50 minutes. The male bath attendants in the hamam are exceptionally thorough with the soap cleaning and massage and you always feel fresh after. We followed this up with a full body massage which was provided by two professionals who really dug in and got into those hard to reach places to unlock tension. Painful but rewarding. If you want a full service hamam service in beautiful surroundings this should definitely be on your list.

If you're looking for some luxurious self care, this is the place!
Whenever I travel to a place with a bath house culture, I try to visit one. This one was hands down one of my favorites. It was such a luxurious experience. You're offered "sherbert" (a fruit drink) when you arrive and then go upstair to change. (They offer disposable panties if you forget your bathing suit.) Then they take you for the hammam experience, which includes laying down on the marble dias for a bit to relax, getting scrubbed with a loofah and finally, a wonderful bubble massage and washing. I felt like I had the skin of a baby afterward. You can relax and drink tea on resting beds in the main atrium while you wait for your massage (if you choose to add one one.) This hammam was recently renovated and simply gorgeous. The week before, I visited to the Cemberlitas hammam . It was nice but everything about Kilic was next-level amazing from the service to the amenities. Do make sure to book reservation at least a week ahead to get the time you want.

Our tour guide recommended this particular hamam to us - it's where his wife goes once a month - We are so glad he did. It was amazing. Very clean and hygienic. They ladies were very professional and friendly. We all left there feeling like a million bucks.

Visited here on Weds last week (17th Aug) in the evening. Wanted to do this as “must-do” thing while in istanbul.

Booked online the evening before and had my confirmation email in the morning.

Easy to find and near local restaurants and eateries etc.

To be honest, I was a little apprehensive about it, getting half naked around a load of other guys, but I’m so glad I did it. The place is super impressive inside and the whole ritualistic/ceremonial feel to the washing process was amazing. My “washer” (or whatever you call them) was called Ennis and he was great. Made me feel very relaxed and he was very thorough. It was amazing being completely covered from head to toe in soapy bubbles and then scrubbed and washed.

The guy also did some pressure point/massage which was great (you can pay extra for full body massages but they’d fully booked up so travellers may wish to book in advance as I wouldn’t have minded one but chose not to ask until the nerves of attending had dissipated!)

Chilled out after and had an ice-T drink. Felt very relaxed before heading back out into the madness of istanbul.

Reasonably priced and would definitely recommend it.

✈️ Flying across the world to Turkey first time to have ultimate experience of "Original #hamam" on my bucket list …once in a lifetime 🇹🇷

🧿After researching “best haman in turkey”, finally found “Kılıç Ali Paşa Hamamı” as lonely planet highly recommended and guaranteed with real user reviews from Trip advisor.

🧏🏻‍♀️This is the public Hamams that have separate timing between women and men. Hamams here do not mix so don't be shy. Also, therapist will only be the same gender as well.

🕌“Kılıç Ali Paşa Hamamı” has been built since 1583!! It was filled with the vibe of the mystique of history. I don’t feel like I’m in usual spa but it gave a feeling as if I’m a princess of the Ottoman Empire. This place is luxury and made me mesmerized from the first second.

🍹Starting with a warm welcome with Plum Sherbet, then they gave the locker key to change into a bikini and slippers with peştamal cloth which were provided in the lockers upstairs.

🧖🏻‍♀️Then the therapist will take us to lie on a warm stone for about 15 minutes. Before putting on gloves and 🧽 scrubbing face and body. I’ve never feel this clean before. Then, the therapist use a white cloth to wave in the air to make bubbles to pour over us with a full body massage including a hair wash. 🫧All together took 50 minutes and it’s worth every minute (only 960 Lira, if paying in cash, it's 5% discounted to 912 Lira) Actually, flying to Turkey just for this hamam is still worth it!

Ps. Walk-in is not recommended. Please reserve in advance only.

I’ve been to a number of different hammam in Istanbul. For a western visitor, this is by far the nicest.

The hammam is the most beautiful part of Islamic culture that non-believers are allowed to experience: the ritual bathing before your cleanse your soul in the mosque. I always go in every moslem country. The facilities vary but the ritual is the same.

Istanbul has the oldest and grandest I’ve seen. 900 yo domed marble grandeur. This specific place is as elegant as the spa at any Four Seasons resort.

They wrap you in a towel then the attendant gives you a pre-wash with bowls of luke warm water. He then guides you to an enormous marble slab, where you lie for perhaps twenty minutes (there are no clocks) until your muscles start to melt. As they do, you gaze at the dome where holes are cut in the shape of stars and other celestial objects. Today a bit of rain filtered through.

After your muscles have melted, he taps the sole of your foot and guides you to another washing station. There the exfoliation begins.

Exfoliation means a sandpaper glove that he uses to strip a layer of skin off every inch of your body. He is not gentle. It hurts.

When that is done the warm water returns, this time with soapy bubbles. You become Mr. Bubble, a giant puff of whiteness. He washes that off with more warm water and towels, making sure no speck of dirt remains.

When that is done he taps you on the foot and leads you to the final washing station. You emerge wrapped in towels from your toes to the top of your head, looking like a Bedouin just back from the oasis - or in my case (being a white guy) like Lawrence of Arabia.

Then you emerge to a comfy lounging situation, where you just have enough strength to lift the cup of apple tea that appears before you.

If that is the prelude, I may have to convert to find out what the ending is like.

Fell into a tourist trap Hammam on a previous visit to Turkey so this time I followed a recommendation from a friend who lives in Istanbul.

Everything was spectacular and Osman who performed the Turkish bath for me checked his pressure was correct every time I flinched. Very polite staff and very professional.

I carried cash for tipping into the Hammam but I needn’t have - they have a pocket for tipping at the end when you pay your bill!

Overall a faultless experience that left me feeling clean and refreshed in body and mind. Thank you!!

Wow, what can one say about the hamam experience here. As first timers, we felt relaxed from the moment we walked in the door. The staff we very welcoming and spoke good English. After being asked to change, we were welcomed into the hamam itself where you were drenched in warm water and then asked to relax on a warm stone floor. After a bit of relaxing, Saudi greeted me with a warm handshake before performing the cleaning process. It was intense in a wonderful way, he was careful enough but also tough enough to make sure the experience was worth it all. After the full scrub down, there is more relaxing in your own time with a warm drink.

Very happy with the experience overall and felt incredibly relaxed.

Pro tip - make sure you book in advanced as they are busy!

This hamam caters to more of a tourist/upscale crowd, but if you are in need of relaxation and pampering it is so worth it! The staff are very courteous and focused on providing you with a good bathing experience. Afterward you can relax on couches to further extend your experience. If you're tired and stressed, this hamam will make you feel a lot better.

The best hamman I’ve ever visited, the atmosphere is so relaxing! The staff is very friendly and nice, definitely worth visiting.
We bought a standard package for 450TL.
When we came, we were offered delicious refreshing sherbet, and after spa we had very nice flavored tea and cheese pastry, tea was 20TL.

I had never been to a Hammam before but when in Istanbul....you gotta go. Place was highly recommended by Soner (istanbul@dailyistanbultours.com). Not only was it a fantastic experience but it was a short two block walk from the Port. Went at 7pm. Showed up not knowing what to expect but the staff made the experience simple and most enjoyable. After wallowing on a hot marble stone in the Hammam I was greeted by my host Sahle who proceeded to "hose me down", wash/massage, loofah my entire body, hose me down again and then dried off. Felt like the ultimate high end car wash for humans! Skin felt great afterwards. Very reasonable prices as well. In my opinion no need for any additional massage services after the hammam treatment. Highly recommend
