Nyerere national park is close to Zanzibar.

Nyerere would be the best by far but will you overnight....a must.

Saadani is also close to Dar but would also require an o/n.

Hi - Wondering if you did he 1 day Safari?

I'm currently looking into one, and I've found a couple of tour operators, where I can fly out. I'm trying to decide on the best park to see things considering it's a short game drive. I'll be there end of May and while more operators offer Selous and Mikumi at a lower price, there are pricier ones to Tarangire. Wonder if anyone has any input into which is worth it.

At the end of May there will be very little wildlife in Tarangire, as it disperses during the rainy season. Your best bet would probably be Selous (now known as Nyerere National Park).

Thanks, that was helpful! I thought I'd have better luck at Tarangire because I read reviews about Selous not having alot of wildlife. Wondering if I should just scrap the 1 day safari plan, and put it off for when I visit Kenya in the future. Is Mikumi better? Is the end of May just a bad time?

Lots of people will tell you how much they love the "green season," which is what they call the rainy season nowadays, but the reality is that wildlife viewing can be difficult. Because they can find water anywhere, instead of congregating near water sources the animals tend to scatter, and driving can be tough too. The exception is if you can happen to find the wildebeest/zebra/gazelle migration in the right part of the Serengeti, which is tricky at that time of year since the migration is likely to be on the move. But it wouldn't make sense to do a 1-day trip to the Serengeti from Zanzibar.

If you're really eager to see some wildlife, Selous/Nyerere is your best bet (better than Mikumi). But if you want to do it right, wait until you can really devote some time to it.

Hi Ralphhh

I agree 100% with your first paragraph and have often mentioned that and been criticized for it. Tarangire is the perfect example where wildife can be and will be spread out over a very large area and very long grass.

Hi jaidazzles To be honest I would scrap the 1 days plan especially at the end of May and wait till you go to Kenya for your wildlife experience.
