Thanks, DLi, for sharing your very nice photo blog with us. Was thinking it was around time you did, knowing you said you'd come in late Nov. ;-) Glad you made it (barely?) in time for the koyo in Arashiyama. How did it treat you this time?

Btw, it's been quite awhile since I visited Seiryoji/清凉寺, so your photos helped refresh my memories. Here, I got something on my mind when I read the caption to it, hoping it was not me who recommended it. ;-) But if it is, take my apologies here for my wrong wording in one of my past posts: Seiryoji vs Seiryuji. The latter, Seiryuji/青龍寺, is located on a mountain top in Higashiyama (nowhere near Arashiyama), and the captioned photos of which I uploaded as a new batch on my Flickr album and shared on here last month. The letter, 龍, could sometimes be said like *ryo* instead of *ryu* in the Japanese language. But when it's preceded by 青 and makes a 2letter kanji word, umm, a bit disconcerting/embarrassing result is produced on the side of the Japanese ears. So what I had then meant was Seiryuji, or *Blue Dragon Temple,* in Higashiyama. Anyway, I should've known better, sorry. Next time you come, you can sure locate it with your own eyes if you look up above at the rolling hills when you are on the northern tip of Maruyama Park. (Will look tiny though if seen from the Hotel Okura.)

Am looking forward to seeing what follows/the Hokuriku part.

Thank you so much for an excellent trip report and beautiful photos! I really enjoyed them. Your food pictures all look so yummy. The kappo in Umeda looks like an establishment I'd enjoy.

I was in Osaka and Kyoto at about the same time you were, too.

Looking forward to seeing the Fukui version.

@Slalomer-sensei,

My wife and I were so delighted to be back in Kyoto/Arashiyama, regardless of koyo was off-peak or not. My initial plan was to visit Gio-ji which is famous for fallen leaves on moss in late season but with your cue I decided to visit Seiryo-ji instead which turned out to be highly worthy.

I do recall your photos taken from Seiryu-ji where the Imperial Palace occupies a huge greenery area in central Kyoto.

guess Seiryu-ji and Chion-in were both captured in my photo taken from Hotel Okura.

Thank you for the info. We love kappo/izakayas and are always keen on discovering new good ones. One of your pictures with lots of sake bottles sold that kappo to us :) We shall try it when we go back in May.

Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Glad you say so, DLi, and thanks for another/new link. Yes, *Blue Dragon* it is. I didn't know you'd already located it. ;-) I didn't squeeze in a visit to Gioji either. Instead, I made my way to Mt Ogura. Umm, as I recollect, re Gioji, years and years ago I happened to have my body lying out-stretched on the tatami mat floor that faces the moss garden, because of drowsiness (drove in Arashiyama without sleeping a wink the previous night), when I was still *uncultivated* and came for the first time on one morning of sweltering summer heat, where no one but me and a moss-tender was in there. ;-) Yes, that was a big no-no, I now know. (Statute of limitations runs out, I hope, ;-)) I may be wrong, but its popularity came hand in hand with a Tv ad, where Nescafé Japan (Gold Blend) featured its quintessentially Japanese oval window overlooking the garden carrying the unique tune of a female solo vocal/scat: ♪shabada da ba shabada ba dududu be lulululu♪ Yes, it's Japan proper, so I guess you've never heard of it. But it was nice as a Tv advert goes.

Btw., my belated apologies here: Seiryuji/青龍寺 is a misnomer on my part, the official appellation of it being Seiryuden/青龍殿. The incorrect preconception (I had that it is a sub-temple of Shoren-in) led to creating that name.

Take your time, yet everyone's wating for your next batch on the Hokuriku part. Happy holidays from me too!
