      Critics Consensus

Though restrained by most torture porn standards, Would You Rather's brilliant premise is ultimately harmed by its tendency towards blood and guts.

Me D Entertaining and wonderfully tragic, but the ending is what downgrades the film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/18/24 Full Review Killian M Despite a downer of an ending, this is a great horror flick with despicable characters and some gnarly moments without showing too much. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/24 Full Review Ravi T Ok this wasn't an amazing movie by any means. There were a lot of dumb decisions that certain characters made. But overall, I actually enjoyed watching it. It was a fun movie! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/13/23 Full Review rsr2 Gaming Positives: I did actually enjoyed the concept. I was hooked early on and wanted to keep watching. The ending I was actually really surprised by. I wasn't ready for it to be honest. I'm talking about the ending of the game, the total ending I knew was going to happen and it was no surprise at all. Some of the actors did a spectacular job! The Negatives: Some of the pieces of the movie are all over the place and felt rushed. People were randomly dying left and right out of nowhere and it was just strange. One scene in particular was just so stupid that it instantly took the suspense away and just changed the shift of the movie to being like, okay well hope this is over soon because it was just so dumb. (The Basement scene) I did say I was interested in the story but there are parts that I just didn't feel was needed or needed more on. Overall this movie was an interesting watch. I didn't mind it but some parts I was just not sure how to feel about it. Some parts were fantastic! If you like gore movies and just an interesting story, this is an alright watch. But overall, it's a one time watch and that's it. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/09/23 Full Review Valerii Ege D The idea is exciting. The pace is good, but in this kind of movie, I always expect a more thrilling direction. The camera is so stable. Still a good movie but with some touch, it could have been much better. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/26/23 Full Review Madeleine H Probably one of the dumbest movies I've seen. The script was horrible, acting was abysmal, the concept was cool, but HORRIBLY executed. Special effects were atrocious, picture was bad and had way too much unnecessary panning in literally every scene, soundtrack was horrible, ending was bland, no character had any actual depth to them, the guy who tried to come save the day, was pointless and didnt add to the film in any way. Some movies are so dumb they are funny, this was not one of them. It quickly went from cringey and laughable, to "oh my gosh this movie was an hour and a half I'll never get back". Movie isn't even worth a watch to be honest. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/10/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Robert Abele Los Angeles Times Hardly a most dangerous game night at the movies. Rated: 2.5/5 Feb 15, 2013 Full Review Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter This restrained exercise in torture porn benefits from its clever concept and restrained execution. Feb 8, 2013 Full Review Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times A derivative horror movie with highfalutin pretensions. Rated: 2/5 Feb 8, 2013 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Jeffrey Combs once again elevates a relatively mundane experience into something sort of enjoyable, yet it's only one of many films in this specific subgenre that fails to stand out in any major ways. Rated: 3/5 Sep 22, 2023 Full Review Abbie Bernstein Assignment X Would You Rather is a horror film in the truest sense, opening up frightening doors in our minds and making us look at parts of ourselves. It's not easy, but it is well-done and extremely compelling. Rated: B+ Jan 26, 2019 Full Review Wesley Lovell Cinema Sight An ungainly horror film that tries to twist the genre in a new direction, but fails utterly. There are some truly horrific scenes, but nothing worth remembering afterwards. Rated: 1.5/4 Dec 15, 2013 Full Review Read all reviews
