Biography

William was born in 18 September 1917 in Ridgewood, New Jersey to Joseph R. and Anne R. (Lenihan) Boldt. [1] He passed away in 2004. At the time of his draft registration for World War II 16 October 1940, he was a graduate student and assistant at New York University School of Commerce. [2] It was also noted that he was a tall young man, 6' 3", weighing 165 lbs. His eyes were blue and his hair brown. There was also a scar between his eyebrows. [2]

He married Elizabeth Roberts, daughter of Laurence Roberts and Margaret McClain, on 16 April 1939 in Cummington, Massachusetts. [3] He was twenty-one years of age and she was eighteen. [3] They were both students. [3] Their marriage announcement appeared in The Morning Call of Paterson, New Jersey. Mr. Boldt graduated from Dartmouth in 1939 where he received the honorary Phi Beta Kappa key. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity and editor-in-chief of The Dartmouth. He was connected in business with the Regional Planning Board in New York City and the couple planned to make their home on Madison Avenue in New York City. [4] There is some mystery regarding their marriage. An engagement announcement appeared in The Record of Hackensack announcing the couple's engagement to be married. This was dated 10 September 1940. [5]

In 1941 O'Brien spent 6 months in a work camp for being a conscientious objector. He was an avid anti-nuclear weapons activist.
