William Gresham Manson
Dr. William (Bill) Manson passed away peacefully at his home in Palm Springs on January 20, 2016 surrounded by family and loved ones at the age of 94.
Bill was born March 17, 1921 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee to William and Madge Manson. In 1937, at the age of 16, he received a scholarship to Harvard University, earning his Bachelor's Degree and graduated magna cum laude in 1941. Bill was drafted into the Army in 1943 serving in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery and valor. After his military service, Bill discovered his passion for medicine and was awarded a second scholarship to Harvard Medical School, completing his medical degree in pediatrics. In 1953 he married Elizabeth (Betsy) Sprague and moved to the Bay Area to start his pediatric practice. Bill and Betsy had a son, Jeffrey, followed by two daughters, Carolyn and Lisa. Dr. Manson joined Ross Valley Medical Group and was a beloved pediatrician in Marin County, still making house calls until his retirement in 1983.
Bill was a devoted father, loyal friend and gracious host. He enjoyed ballroom dancing, lively conversation and without a whisper of ego impressed everyone in the room with his brilliance. He embraced life with grace and passion and will be greatly missed by all.
Bill is survived by his partner Peter; children Jeffrey, Carolyn and Elizabeth (Lisa) and their spouses; grandchildren, Chelsea, Haley, Kelly, Genna, Brian, Michael, Kristen and Courtney; great grandchildren Connor and Kaya, along with extended family and friends.

Dr. Manson was my pediatrician in Ross Valley back in the early 1970's. I'm 45 years old now and I still remember him clear as day. I remember him as a kind and gentle doctor. Thank you for helping me to grow up a healthy young man. Rest in Peace Dr. Manson.
