Mackenzie King was a journalist, civil servant, author, and politician; born 17 Dec. 1874 in Berlin (Kitchener), Ontario,[1] son of John King and Isabel Mackenzie ;died unmarried 22 July 1950 at Kingsmere, Québec.

Willie, as he was called in childhood, spent his early years growing up in Berlin, Ontario with his sisters, Bella and Jennie, and little brother, Max. The family lived on the outskirts of town in a rented brick house, known as Woodside.[2]

Growing up Willie was greatly influenced by his mother, Isabele Mackenzie.

In 1911, Mackenzie King was living at 117 Queen St. N. in Berlin (Kitchener), Ontario. He is listed as the only member of his household. Mackenzie's occupation was Minister of Labor. In this position, he had made $7000 the previous year.[3]
