We went to Wild Ginger on December 30th for dinner to celebrate New Years early - beat the crowds and not have to drive New Years Eve. The place was packed with others with the Same idea. Our waitress had too many tables to cover...- but the manager _bob Graham saved the night by jumping in and helping in every way. What we thought would be the first bad experience we ever had there turned out to be fabulous thanks to Bob stepping in to help. As always the food was fabulous - the soft shell crab app is to die for!! My Sashimi platter was wonderful and as always the Sunshine Shrimp was a masterpiece.More

I hope before too long readers will see this as ancient history. But today we are at the upswing of the virus pandemic. Nonetheless, we must eat and carefully socialize. It was comforting to visit one of our regular destinations and see the friendly staff...and eat some of our favorite dishes. Their efforts at extra precautions was very evident, wiping down tables and chairs between guests, etc. Since not as busy as usual, they also sat guests at every other table, promoting some social distancing that has been advised. Diners were also courteous, somewhat subdued, and friendly. We did not hear a single cough from anyone the entire meal. Greetings were hellos and elbow bumps. It looked like takeout was pretty busy, so the kitchen was active. The waitstaff maintained their cheeriness and genuinely looked happy to be working. For anyone reading this during the pandemic, I do hope they find their restaurants functioning as professionally and responsibly as we found Wild Ginger last night. Food was great, as usual.More

My wife and I chose to celebrate our version of New Year's Eve one night early by booking a late reservation at Wild Ginger. This was our second visit to this restaurant since we moved to the Richmond area three years ago. The only disappointment...of the evening was when the hostess was focused on a phone and was not attentive to our arrival. However, after making our presence known we were seated promptly at our reserved table. Our server, Cassidy, arrived soon to introduce herself and take drink orders. She allowed us plenty of time to look at the list of unique cocktails, wine and beer and returned with water. When asked, she also provided observations and comments from other diners and some personal recommendations. We started with the Irreplaceable which is the restaurants classic Old Fashioned served with a lovely chunk of candied ginger. We informed Cassidy that we wished to have a long slow meal, and started with the Thai Shrimp Wraps for our first starter to take the edge off. After this we ordered two maki, the Anna and Two88 rolls. Both of these rolls are decadent with tempura shrimp as the inside base with a variety of fillings, toppings and sauces. Both are highly recommended. After a considerable and desired break, we ordered our entrees. My wife chose the Singapore noodles with chicken which had wonderfully light and fresh flavors. I chose Malay lamb chops which were served with asparagus, fried rice, and creamy curry sauce. The seasoning on the lamb was perfect allowing the natural flavor to shine, but the sauce was a nice touch for an occasional bite and made a great addition to the fried rice as well. Along the way we ordered a couple of more drinks with my wife choosing the Chocolate Manhattan. This was served martini style and included a choice of bourbon or rye with chocolate bitters and chocolate covered cherry. Although we expected this cocktail to be dessert-like, it was crisp and fresh. Although it arrived after I finished my lamb, I thought it would have been a great choice with red meat. Speaking of which, I chose to move to wine with my lamb and chose the Scouts Honor Red Blend after tasting a couple of options. It was full-bodied, but not too bold, and had lovely cherry notes. We finished our beverages over a shared dessert of oreo cheesecake. This was the furthest thing imaginable from the typical "thaw and serve" cheesecake served by chain restaurants. It had very rich chocolate ganache on the top, with a cheesecake filling that was equally reminiscent of the cookie and cream-filling associated with Oreo, over a delicious chocolate cookie crust. Cassidy was delightful throughout, providing personal recommendations and guest comments throughout our dining adventure. We enjoyed every one of our food and beverage items, and will definitely be back.More

This is usually a first stop when I’m in town visiting friends and it was this trip as well. Sadly though there were MANY problems from being seated to the end of the meal. The staffing seemed to be short yet they were still seating...people outside which is where we ended up. It was rather hot which was fine but if you’re willing to seat people on the patio when it’s 93° then you really should be more attentive with water and not having folks sit outside for twenty minutes before a server even bothers to come out. Servers were dealing with a door that clearly was too heavy because each person that came through it with food or drinks was spilling things left and right. It ended up being what looked like a graveyard of leftovers with the amount of food that was on the ground and what was more appalling was not one server who dropped anything bothered to clean it up?! On top of that when they started to bring our food out we didn’t receive plates or silverware and sat there waiting for the next round of staff to come through which was ridiculous. The food was mediocre especially for the price and the cocktails were ok. Again this is not what I remember sadly and don’t think I will be dying to go back anytime soon. And unfortunately from what I gather they have been suffering for a bit now. It’s certainly not what it used to be.More

This used to be one of our top 3 restaurants - last 3 visits were major disappointments. Last night my wife ordered her appetizer and entree - I ordered my appetizer and asked waitress to come back in a 2 minutes for me to decide...on roll I wanted. Her appetizer and entree appeared with my appetizer and I waited another 15 minutes for waitress to appear to order my roll - the food was good but presentation not nearly as good as it used to be. Service needs vast improvement.More

Been here twice in the past month, once for lunch, once for dinner. Both times, service was friendly and efficient. But we’ve been disappointed to find that it’s just not as outstanding as it was when it opened several years ago. Teriyaki dish and was...bland, as was a meager serving of cucumber salad. Kobe beef burger was dry & fries cold. Curry mussels in broth were served, sadly, over rice. Tangerine salmon salad was lacking in any hint of citrus flavor. Exceptions were tempura calamari & lamb lollipop small plates/appetizers - both were very good!More

Seven of us visited last night to celebrate a birthday. Although we had called ahead to ensure that we would find gluten-free options that turned out to not be the case. The menu said gluten-free, but in truth they should have said gluten-free option because...the only way to order those selections would have been if they deleted everything that would have made the dish worth having. Of course we had to ask several people to clarify the gluten situation before we found anyone who had the right answer. Everything we were planning to order would have been not worth having once they removed the items that had the gluten in them. Additionally we learned that just about every single thing that they serve had msg. Because we cannot eat gluten, and do not want to eat MSG for health reasons we sadly all had to get up and leave and find another place to celebrate the birthday.More

Wild Ginger is an upscale family restaurant that serves pan Asian cuisine. They specialize in small plates and sushi. Everyone was thrilled with their food. Would highly recommend. Cassidy waited on us and was phenomenal, anticipating our every need.

Wild Ginger has become one of our go-to restaurants. We love the variety of menu items and range of prices from small plates to entrees. We have tried so many different menu items and all have been superb. My wife is gluten intolerant and her...options are plentiful. The staff is organized and efficient and the atmosphere is very enjoyable. During our recent visit Cassidy was our server and she is outstanding. We look forward to a Happy Hour visit to the Wild Ginger Bar one day!More

Met with nine friends for lunch at this lovely restaurant. Very nice decor with excellent service. They were glad to explain the dishes from their substantial menu. They have a full bar and ample parking. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I had their corn & crab...soup, which was delicious, as was their soft shell crab. We liked the fact that their luncheon choices were smaller and appropriate for lunch versus a dinner.More

Nice restaurant with outdoor seating & infrared heaters. Excellent service and everything was freshly made. They accommodate some customization to their many offerings. Food presentation was impressive. The Mizo soup was delicious. Ample parking. About $20 per person for lunch.

First time visit. Thoroughly enjoyed. Went for lunch. Server very helpful in explaining some of the offerings. Menu seems heavily sushi oriented which not appealing to me. I chose Tom Yum soup and small plate Sesame Scallops. Both very good. Total tax and tip $29....Would go again if in the area.More
