Off they go! For the drives, please go to /Drives. Since Wikimedia Commons is now the repository for free images, it is redundant and wasteful to upload an image to every Wikipedia language or sister project that wants to use an image. Using Commons, we can store a picture just once on Wikimedia's servers and use it anywhere. Therefore, uploaded free images should all be transferred to Commons, and those that are currently on Wikipedia should be moved. As all of the subcategories of Category:All free media, including Category:GFDL files, Category:Public domain files and many others, should now be transferred to Commons, this WikiProject has been created to organize efforts and expand awareness of this massive waste of server space. Please apply an extremely critical eye to allegedly "free" images here before uploading them at the Commons. This project is a good chance to catch many of the dodgily sourced and licensed images here. If you have any doubts please don't upload to the Commons, and send to FfD or PUF. Otherwise, you are creating a mess which Commons admins will have to mop up later. Publication citation is needed in the source section. Author has to be Polish or the work has to be first published in Poland. Majority of photographs published in that time in Poland did not have author information, so unknown authors are OK unless there are reasons to believe that author was not Polish (Photos of US actors might have been published in Poland but they were likely taken by non-Polish photographers). All files meeting those requirements were moved to Commons several years ago, so all that is left does not meet them (usually no publication citation). Be careful when moving these if the image wasn't first published in the US!
