The comic book films task force is a collaboration between WikiProject Film and WikiProject Comics to develop articles about such films due to the ongoing industry trend and the popularity of such topics on Wikipedia. The task force is designed to pursue goals more specific than those of either WikiProject, and the goals are listed below.

Goals[edit]

  • To establish style and content sub-guidelines through consensus that comply with Wikipedia's general policies and guidelines as well as the WikiProject Film guidelines
  • To assess the reliability of sources and to assist in finding more reliable alternatives
  • To identify and gather common sources for referencing (e.g., a visual effects website that often covers such films in its articles)
  • To help procure free and/or non-free images for articles (e.g., screenshot to illustrate costume design)
  • To notify other editors of ongoing discussion at an individual article, while being conscious of groupthink
  • To identify incubated articles to prepare for rollout when the time comes
  • To recruit new editors working on such articles into the task force and either WikiProject

Guidelines[edit]

  • Ideal approach to crediting source material (e.g., do we credit Batman's creators in every film article?)
  • Presentation of actors and roles in "Cast" section, like when to use or avoid table formatting
  • Proper selection of film's poster image due to such films having many variations
  • Preferred kind of non-free images (esp. with characters' film appearances shown in characters' articles)
  • Appropriate and inappropriate information for an article's "Marketing" section, to ensure a NPOV
  • Placement of developing project information in mainspace and in the Drafts space

Resources[edit]

If you find a reliable source that can provide new information about a specific topic, please incorporate the source's information in the article body or otherwise list it on the article's talk page. A "References for use" section can be created at the top of each talk page to list such sources. If the sources are numerous, create a sub-page to list all the references for use by using the {{Film references for use}} template. For example, see Talk:Batman Begins/references.

Below is a list of general resources that are especially beneficial to articles about films based on comics. Additional resources can be found in the link above.

  • Heat Vision (website), a Hollywood Reporter blog covering comic book movie news
NOTE: Hollywood Reporter links move or disappear after a week or two, so it is more imperative than usual to include in your footnote an archive link at WebCitation.org or similar in order to present link rot.

Note: ComicBookMovie.com (website), LRM Online (formerly Latino Review, website), Heroic Hollywood (website), The Illuminerdi (website), Murphy's Multiverse (website), and MCU Exchange (website) are NOT reliable sources. While these websites may not be used sources, they often link to other sources that are reliable for development news and other production information.

Below are a list of books about films based on comics that can be used in articles. Sources about specific films should be added to individual articles' talk pages.

  • Booker, M. Keith (2007). May Contain Graphic Material: Comic Books, Graphic Novels, and Film. Praeger. ISBN 0275993868.
  • Film and Comic Books. University Press of Mississippi. 2007. ISBN 1578069785.
  • Hughes, David (2010). Comic Book Movies. Virgin Film. Virgin Books. ISBN 0753512637.
