Answer: Earlier today, a user posted a photo of his wife posing in lingerie. Many commenters were unimpressed with the picture’s subject, and a mod had to tell people to stop reporting it as pornography. Other commenters are distracted by the fact that her bra appears to be uncomfortably ill-fitting, and more point out that the photo is extremely grainy and dark.

A few hours later, a meme is born. More specifically, the first joke post appears to be this photo of a woman wrapped up in a blanket drinking tea, with the title “Oh yeah? Well here’s a picture of MY wife!”

Edit: As other commenters have pointed out, the most notable addition to the trend might be here, where someone posted a picture of their wife’s cremated remains.

Wife guys love their wives

I love nothing enough to post pictures of it to strangers for Karma.

I post pictures of my cat because I am sure he is the most beautiful of cats and everyone must want to admire him.

I presume this is the same logic used by wife photographers.

Except Total War apparently. Your righteous indignation will be your downfall!!!!!!!

Where did I post pictures of total war

This is legit crazy. First off, the OP in that post has made — and this is no exaggeration— around 500 comments in the comment section. Wow.

Second, looking at some of his previous posts, he does appear to have some legitimately cool photos of his wife, many of them with her wearing well-fitting and cute outfits.

Which makes all the more confusing as to why he’d post (and then defend 500 times) that photo that is very unflattering and photographically garbage.

u/DiscoshirtAndTiara avatar

It's a strange situation.

He's got a bunch of cool photos. This just isn't one of them. Yet this one is his highest upvoted post on r/pics by far and one of only two of his posts to get more than a few hundred upvotes. (The other one being a nature shot in r/earthporn.)

His defensive comments have a tone that would make me think he was a troll if it weren't for the rest of his account. For instance these comments where he mocks and doesn't answer a person for asking if he got his wife's consent to share the photo. Or this thread where he initially uses the argument that his wife is "proud of her sexuality" before accusing a commenter of only being able to see a woman as a sexual object in his next comment in that same thread.

In the end, I'm not sure what to make of this person. He might be a jerk. He might be a decent person who got blindsided by being put into the spotlight of the reddit hivemind and is handling it badly.

Either way I've already spent too much time working on this comment. So I'm going to post it and move on with my life.

Edited

I just looked at their profile and despite the user name I don’t think OP is (or identifies as) a male. It is more likely a picture of her wife. I may be wrong.

Edit: added the word ‘think’

u/crunchbratsupreme avatar

Went down the rabbit hole of his post history, and honestly it’s a weird vibe lol “Projection photography” oh you mean putting thin white girls in the literal shadows of someone else’s art? And all the comments on the post in question… again, weird vibe

Are you telling me Redditors are repeating the same joke over and over again and driving it into the ground? What a surprise

in r/pics no less? i am just shocked and appalled

u/JamesMattDillon avatar

Redditors would never do that. Only idiots would do that. Oh wait

Are you telling me people are having fun on this website?

No, they only do that in TikTok and Twitter /s

Isn’t that basically what a meme is?

Ah so you GET humor.

Yeah, it's been shit for a long time.

Get to the top of r/pics:

- woman

- somebody holding a sign of a popular opinion

That sub can fuck off.

Edit: I just perused pics. It's a super shit show right now. I hope this is the harbinger to its downfall.

u/Alaska_Jack avatar

I unsubscribed. Couldn't take it any more.

HEY LOOK AT THIS PIC OF A KID HOLDING A CARDBOARD SIGN THAT SAYS "FUCK TRUMP"!!! HAW HAW 50K upvotes

The moment I saw that picture I knee-jerk just unsubscribed for the first time

Then I see this post in this subreddit and realize I’m not the only one who was put off or surprised…

u/rule2thedoubletap avatar

But how can you tell under the blanket?

More replies
u/arbitrarycharacters avatar

One possible correction: looking through the original poster's history, it's likely that she posted a pic of her wife.

Edited

What makes you think that? I went looking to check and their website bio uses male pronouns and presents the photographer as a middle-aged man. But you aren’t the only person to suggest the poster might be a woman, so I might be missing something obvious.

u/arbitrarycharacters avatar

If you look at the user's submitted posts, there are several pictures of a lady with the post title including words like "me" or "I". I'm basing my suggestion off that.

Ah. Those all appear to be of the same woman who is identified as the wife? They’re definitely not of the photographer, who has self-portraits in their Instagram. In the title format used for subs like r/art a ‘Me’ indicates the artist, not subject.

Pics is such a Shitty subreddit. Augh

Thank you for this

Ain't nothing wrong, good for him and her. Fuck em

Many commenters were unimpressed with the picture’s subject

What's their problem?

u/Saint_The_Stig avatar

The first one reminds of when Clarkson put Vaseline on the camera lense.

Dude needs to learn to take the lense cap off before trying to artsy.

u/PrivilegeCheckmate avatar

the photo is extremely grainy and dark.

What really matters.

u/Adezar avatar

Ultimately, if you watch r/all you will see all sorts of weird waves that cross all of reddit. Many subreddits just have memes go viral, it is a study in group sociology.

Didn't someone post his naked wife in a mask before that?

u/RussiaIsBestGreen avatar

Very disappointed that blanket wife wasn’t tagged nsfw.

A brief look at the sub indicates this is a pretty wholesome meme, candid photos without all the prep.

Waiting for the threads of "My wife's son"

I got 96% and I don't even think I'm particularly nice.

It must take a lot of effort to get worse than 75 or so.

I'm also 96% :D

Yeah, I got 99% and I personally feel like I'm often very argumentative on here so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

No you're not!

more reply More replies
More replies

Yeah, I should definitely be below 97%. I think the analysis flavors how controversial your comments are more than content since it's difficult for a program to measure meaning. Most of the time when I am being rude to someone it's because they are a troll from elsewhere or just stupid. I will get a decent number of upvotes for it because my opinion is popular. That doesn't mean I was nice to them. Plus I rarely go out of my way to be explicit about it. Rather than just calling them 'a fucking idiot' or whatever I will instead try to make it a little more personalized while it's still obvious I'm shitting on them.

Oh and my favorite word is cum. Most of that comes from one comment in either r/copypasta or r/196. There was a significant amount of copy pasting.

u/MagnusText avatar

I think I remember you, and you're probably right. That's likely how I got my score as well, hivemind mentality doesn't have to be nice to be perceived well.

Let’s go 95%!! I didn’t know this was a thing it’s awesome ty for this!

Question: why be an asshole in a sub basically for question? Question: why would you ever care what goes on in this sub?

Answer: its pretty random and weird, so one might be curious on why it happened

Do you know what subreddit you're on currently? You absolute potato.

yeah do you think every question that gets asked here meets the rules and is good faith
