Man Dies After Drag Racing, Fleeing Police In Roswell

Roswell Police are investigating a fatal crash after the driver died while he was fleeing police who were pursing him for drag racing.

ROSWELL, GA — The Roswell Police Department, in partnership with the Georgia State Patrol, is investigating a fatal crash on Holcomb Bridge Road in east Roswell.

In the early morning on Sunday, Sept. 12, Roswell Police officers were notified by the Alpharetta Police Department to be on the lookout for a group of vehicles traveling together and engaging in reckless driving behavior. A Roswell Police officer saw the group traveling eastbound on Holcomb Bridge Road shortly after midnight.

An officer saw one of the vehicles, an Infiniti G37, laying drag at the intersection with Ga. 400. The officer went to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but it sped away eastbound. The officer initiated a pursuit with the vehicle, which was canceled near Holcomb Bridge Road and Calibre Creek Parkway.

The fleeing vehicle continued speeding eastbound. Officers soon found the vehicle crashed near Holcomb Bridge Road and Scott Road.

Two occupants, a male and female, had been ejected. Both were transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The male has since died. His identity is not being released until notification of next of kin.

Two additional people were seen getting out of the wrecked vehicle, and getting into another car, which then fled.

The Roswell Police Department contacted Georgia State Patrol, and their Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team responded to investigate.
