Jason Crockett is an aging, grumpy, physically disabled millionaire who invites his family to his island estate for his birthday celebration. Pickett Smith is a free-lance photographer who is doing a pollution layout for an ecology magazine. Jason Crockett hates nature, poisoning anything that crawls on his property. On the night of his birthday the frogs and other members of nature begin to pay Crockett back.

This was such trash and I was delighted.🐸 It’s very light on plot.
The first half of this is sloooow. It’s like a long, low budget, soap opera episode where we meet this awful family of alcoholic, rich people🤑 on a plantation, planning to have a 4th of july/birthday🇺🇸🥳 celebration. They really mistreat wildlife and have a disdain for noisy frogs in particular.🙉
They invite Sam Elliott to join them, too. I never realised he was actually handsome without that crazy moustache.🥸
The second half is just 45 minutes of this family being murdered, one by one, by local wildlife in completely ridiculous fashion.💀

How awesome is that poster?? And the movie is pretty damn good too! Certainly not good in the traditional sense, but damn it’s fun! Ray Milland and Sam Elliott fight off nature run amok and I really love all of these silly 70’s and 80’s movies about animals fighting back.
The actual frogs in the movie really don’t seem to do much except kinda lead all the other reptiles to do the attacks. It’s mostly snakes, lizards, and turtles offing people and only one of those is actually a serious threat in real life so it’s super silly. Like the lizards knock various bottles of poison onto the floor so they create noxious fumes and that kills someone but not…

Fun FROGS fact: just as you have a school of fish, a colony of ants, a gaggle of geese or a plague of locusts, the correct term for a collection of frogs is an army. So perhaps frogs can form an organized attack force after all, though you'd never guess it from this movie.
About a third of the footage in this film is National Geographic style closeups of iguanas, bullfrogs and vipers trying to look as threatening as possible. So a third of this movie is awesome, but the rest of it is very much not.

10. A shrewdness of apes…
̶T̶o̶a̶d̶s̶ Frogs are plotting the demise of a rich family (they don't like them having fancy cocktail parties apparently), but they don't want to get their hands dirty, so they ask their friends the spiders, snakes, turtles, iguanas and crocodiles to do their dirty work. This mostly involves them scaring individual family members to death, but some of the kills are more creative.
Watching this today with Michelle was an infinitely better experience than watching it solo a couple of months back.

if you're looking to watch a bunch of frogs kill people, this will disappoint you. the snakes and alligators were the real stars and they deserve more credit than the boring ass frogs! really cool poster though.
Ray Milland, Sam Elliott and Joan Van Ark star in this horror about a wildlife photographer who attempts to warn the stubborn patriarch of a wealthy Southern family that the surrounding animals near their island plantation are beginning to become violent.
This is Elliott’s first leading role, and he’s definitely the best thing about the whole film, giving a believable and understated performance as the concerned idealist looking at everything from the outside in. He invests in the often daft premise with a conviction that makes it all work better than it could have done, although this shows just how flat the rest of the characters are by comparison.
