The Ziegfeld, NYC's last movie palace theater, is closing.
BFD...
Every now and then one of these stories pops up about a classical/historical movie theater(s) closing. Every now and then you may even see some fund raiser or some philanthropist ponying up a bunch of cash to save one of these.
I say let them die.
I don't feel the pangs of nostalgia for "historic/classical" movie theaters that others do.
To me these theaters are just shitty movie theaters that don't have comfortable seats that are too close together. They don't have stadium style seating, have terribly laid out concession areas, and really shitty crowd management processes as a whole. The theaters are typically located in areas that have pain in the ass parking and are single screen.
I don't get off on a bunch of chandeliers or art work on the walls that have zero impact on the movie I am watching AS IT IS DARK...
Let them die. In fact let all theaters die, my 55 inch HD TV at home is a better experience really.
If you're going to go that route then fuck history all together if its not going to benefit you.
Conflicted. I want to upvote, but also downvote at the same time. You make valid points. I still love the moviegoing experience, though. One of my favourite cinemas in London is old and beat down, yet I keep coming back!
